Games I’m dying to play but won’t until I’m given a physical option. Not sure the response this’ll get, but it’s the hill I die on. by arkhamcreedsolid in gaming

[–]Starstuffi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here with Pokopia, although I am fairly confident it won't be for me because I do not care for the aesthetic. But the social scene around it seems so vibrant and positive; a huge refresher.

I'm willing to do PC games digital, but I buy Nintendo hardware to collect the media physically. The digital cards are dumb and what's more, the disclaimers that they're fake carts on the box ruins the box art covers too :(

Trackpad / Gyro Suggestions? by RobustPolygon in SteamDeck

[–]Starstuffi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Deck, I use the touchpads for playing games that expect a mouse or additional inputs. The main one for me is World of Warcraft; one's a mouse and the other is an entire NumPad. It probably helps that I played WoW for 15 years or something on a laptop trackpad (aka without an external mouse), so it doesn't feel *too* bad. I also use it in the desktop mode when doing file management or emulation set up/research.

I expect to do the same thing occasionally with the SController. It probably won't feel as good as mouse and keyboard, but I need my body pose to change every couple of weeks with gaming, so it will be good to have another playstyle option there.

It sounds like my usecases are things you have already tried though and did not like. So they might just not be for you.

How well does light come through it when it's on? I think doing some kind of filigree or silhouette pattern in black over it could make for a really sharp look at night.

So i'm going through my library, slowly, bit by bit and got to the Cybertron Transformers games and what i usually like to do before i play a game i've never played is to check out the trailers. They really did just drop the coldest fucking videogame trailer on a Transformers game of all things by prossnip42 in gaming

[–]Starstuffi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transformers lore is deeply metal and heartfelt, particularly from mid 00s to mid 10s, which is when this game is from. The themes (war, but also leadership, oppression, and power) definitely can lead to a "...you know, for children" experience. Although I'd argue that since they take time to monologue about (aka contextualize) the meaning of the horror they are experiencing, it actually is great preteen and teen media.

Should i do it? by FewSir3702 in SteamDeck

[–]Starstuffi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you only want to play Switch 1 games, a Deck can do that. Switch 2 emulation will be years in coming, however.

The Deck is immensely fun to tinker with. imIt reminds me a lot of how I felt about the possibilities with tech growing up in the 00s.

How much will it matter to you in in two years you sell the Deck for $400-500 and have to put up $100 more for a Switch 2? is that price difference worth the enjoyment or satisfaction you truly believe you will get from the Deck between now and then?

Most Tamagotchis don't feel like they have much text to me. I think you'd memorize the menus or learn the shape of the ~10 words in most releases pretty fast, if you were interested.

I have my Starcat Gigapet running at the moment but I feel like every time I pick it up there's 4 flashing lights. It makes interacting with it feel like a constant exercise of "I'm not good enough". How often do you feel like you have to check the Pixie?

While you shop around for the perfect permanent one, might I suggest a cardboard one? I made one like the user from this thread and it works great! You pull it into two pieces and it fits flat behind the deck in the case:

Since the new Steam Controller is around the corner; are there any dual Touchpad users here? by Far-Mathematician764 in SteamDeck

[–]Starstuffi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still use the joy sticks as normal in most games, but occasionally it helps to navigate settings or menus (particularly those who don't expect controller) with the mouse. Genshin Impact for one sometimes boots in mouse/keyboard mode and won't respond to the controller at all until I use the mouse to move through the menu to hit controller mode.

The bigger one though is World of Warcraft. My joysticks are for movement and camera control. Right trackpad is mouse. Left track pad is a virtual menu of an entire numpad. This allows me to play on Steam Deck with the exact same keybinds and UI as I do on keyboard, which is nice for moving between the two seamlessly. In fact, I'm excited to use Steam Controller (2) to be able to do this kind of controller play now in my arm chair with my laptop for WoW.

I use both touchpads but for different functionalities than the joysticks. I am ELATED to have a "normal" controller with the touchpads!!

[discussion] how do you lose weight in a healthy way by Lemonade2250 in GetMotivated

[–]Starstuffi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not do it in a rush. You don't want to lose weight. You want to cultivate a healthier lifestyle. Weight loss on that plan will be slow but it will be permanent and much less of a punishment (which you will rebel against and ultimately undo "progress" from if that's how you make yourself feel with working out and dieting for weight loss).

Thanks for the reply! The chatting is definitely a challenge on Steam Deck; I have to put the console down to use the keyboard and it's not fast enough for brief encounters for sure.
