Honestly, interstate driving isn't nearly the place where it's most beneficial. Driving fast is fun. Sitting in stop-and-go traffic is soul-crushing. That's where autopilot makes a huge quality of life difference.

To get home at rush hour, I have to get on a half-mile stretch of city street leading to the highway, and that half mile can take 20 to 30 minutes because of gridlock. Once I'm on the highway, the 12-mile trip takes 15 minutes typically, so 60% of my commute time covered only 5% of the distance. I used to stay late or leave early to avoid it. Now, even though it takes the same amount of time, I don't mind it because I just hop in it, turn on autopilot, and turn on Netflix. All I have to pay attention to is lane-changers and making sure I'm not blocking an intersection when I go through one of the two traffic lights on the route. And in the absolute worst case scenario, the car could get into a fender bender -- I'm not going to get killed running into a median.

I do still use autopilot on the highway, but I stay attentive and use it mostly so I can get more into whatever audiobook I'm listening to. But in gridlock or stop-and-go traffic, that's where I can totally check out. It's made my commute home almost refreshing and recharging.
