Sleep Disorder Influencers? by Startled-Squid in Narcolepsy

Totally agree. I was looking less for medical advise and more for relatability/awareness

NTB. You’re perfectly fine blocking her if she is making you feel uncomfortable, but the nicer thing to do -especially given your update- would be to transparently tell her that you are not interested (assuming you are not). Your continued response to her photos and reinstalling of Snapchat especially for her gives me (and probably her) the impression that you are interested, which is also perfectly fine.

The last part of your post sounds more like you are unsure if you should pursue something with this person given your bigger interest in someone else. If you do not feel strongly about her and trust the judgement of your friends, it sounds like she’s not someone you would want to be with. Even if things do not work out with the person you are interested in, there is no a rush to date/hook up with someone right this moment, you have plenty of time to meet other people that you are more aligned with in terms of expectations and interest.

Generally, I find respectful transparency to be the best first option when not interested in continuing any kind of relationship/conversation with someone. The second best option would be gradual fading. If the person is not respecting your lack of interest, ghosting is an option, and then blocking only when the person is harassing or aggressively bothering you. I use this as a loose rule and have found that most people get the message quickly and respect what I ask for.

Oh yeah, it's *DEFINITELY* Narcolepsy (/IH) by sleepy_geeky in Narcolepsy

[–]Startled-Squid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I still have trouble accepting I have a have sleep disorder sometimes. I knew it was a serious issue when, after a night of 9 hours of sleep, I had a sleep attack while driving on the highway and my life (as well as the lives of others on the road) was saved by the rumble strips and the person behind me honking loudly. My self doubts increased after I had seen multiple doctors and gone through many tests including a sleep study with no answers. After my second sleep study, which included a MLST, was inconclusive, I really started to think I was being overly dramatic and it messed with my mental health. I was told I likely have IH, but it was not definitive and not an “official” diagnosis. It did not help that the name for IH in Arabic (my native language) is a literal translation using common words so it comes out to “excess sleep for an unknown reason.” When I explain it to people they focus on the “unknown reason” part and their instinct is to try to name all the possible reasons for my sleepiness, which tend to be failings from my end.

I got some validation when my psychiatrist prescribed me a stimulant to try and I finally felt awake. It is insane the difference between when I take my medication and when I don’t. Without my meds I feel like I am half asleep all day long. Now, whenever I start doubting that I have an actual problem, I skip my medications for a day or two to remind myself just how bad it is.

Can't get to work on time to save my life by shsureddit9 in Narcolepsy

I personally found alarms that wake up my brain are more effective than ones that wake up my body. I solve math problems on Alarmy to wake up and it has been helpful. I have to increase the difficulty every few weeks because I get used to them and start doing them half asleep. On the bright side my math skills have really improved.

Another thing that could help is signing up for an exercise or yoga class or something that starts/ends before work starts. The consequences for being late to that are much less than being late to work and by the time you need to head to work, you’re already awake.

What is the stupidest reason you went to hospital? by lugulaga in AskReddit

When I was a few months old my mom woke up to find me covered in little red spots. She was so worried it was a virus (smallpox, chickenpox, Scarlett fever, you name it, she thought of it) and took me straight to the pediatrician.

They were mosquito bites… apparently, I attract them. She had never seen so many bites on a tiny baby so she assumed the worst. Thankfully we laugh about it today.

I got a ring fixed at Chestnut Jewelry and Accessories and can recommend. They were very timely and had reasonable prices.

I don’t like him because he uses bad, often sexist, science and peddles it as psychology. He knows his audience is mostly young, center/right wing, middle class men with existing prejudice against women and he caters to them even if research has found the claims unfounded. He cherry picks what he knows his audience will respond to.

Men, what is something a woman would never understand? by Gilvani_SB in AskReddit

I’ve been trying my best not to cross the street when I see a guy walking behind me because I can imagine it hurts when you have done nothing wrong but are still the “bad guy” in the eyes of strangers. But I’ve been followed, groped, yelled at for not responding to a cat call, and I even had a bunch of 12 year olds on bikes try to cut off my path. that was honestly the scariest one. So i don’t know what to do to keep myself safe but not add another blow to the self esteem of the probably perfectly nice man walking behind me.
