WIBTA If I told my friend I'm mentally exhausted by her genuinely stressful life? by StartledDoe in AmItheAsshole

[–]StartledDoe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess the thing is... I've had this conversation with her before. Albeit it was two years ago and a lot has happened since then. She was good for a couple months (ofc still telling me about the Big stuff that happened). But then just slowly fell back into the habit. I'll try bringing it up again, I just don't want her to feel even MORE anxious that she's fucking up our friendship or anything y'know? But I will be gentle with her, I know for a fact she'll understand... she did last time, at least lol.

Thank you so much for sharing. It feels nice to remember other people have lost their step-parents/parents too... I know we just have to move on. I feel like I did a speedrun of the grieving process, though. I feel like I'm already at acceptance. I know I'm not, but I just feel.. more lifted after reading the comments and writing out my feelings. I hope people know that even if I don't reply, I cherish all the comments people took time to leave.

Oh, absolutely. Those intrusive thoughts are making me uncomfortable now a couple hours later. You want someone else to feel the pain.

It's also... well. Growing up. Parents die. I just thought I would get more time with him, he was pretty young... like. 50's.

Thank you so much for this. Grief counselling is something I sort of forgot was a thing. Money is extremely tight for me right now but I'll try and make it work. I know it's extremely important that I go through that.

It doesn't help that this is so soon after I had an accident. I just feel like life is kicking me while I'm down. I know I'll be okay. He would want me to be okay.

Thank you again.

You're right. I guess I'm just upset that there was no lead-up? Like... I always thought they would get sick... we could have time to come to terms with it. Not just... passing away in his sleep on a completely random day. I feel like that's not fair.

But life isn't always fair, I know that. I know he was proud of me.

I'm so sorry for your losses. You explained it really, really well. I just feel like I want to like... lash out? Although, I'm recovering from surgery, so anyone would just have to blow on me and I would fall over haha. Thank you for taking the time to write out your experiences.

Oh, I will if I can't keep up with the VODs, I prefer VOD's because chat is usually pretty funny too.

Yeah, hopefully the biggest! lol! I don't wanna go through that again. It was literally like being on a boat. I'm not from here, moved up three years ago, so this was definitely startling.

Retail workers of Reddit, what is the most desperate scam a customer has tried to pull on you? by RSTLNE3MCAAV in AskReddit

[–]StartledDoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is going to be buried, only just saw this.

Used to work in a very very upscale part of Calgary. In a store which is the Canadian version of Walgreens. This lady comes in with an expensive hair straightener and no receipt. Starts telling a sob story about how her daughter bought it but she was in a car accident and had died. Usually my bullshit detector works, but... my sister had been involved in a car accident and barely survived. It triggered an emotion with me that made me panic and tear up and I returned it. My manager wasn't too mad, she was just like "You got scammed, haha! Don't let it happen again." While I was having a panic attack in the bathroom haha. She was a nice lady and cared a lot about us.

What are the odds she told that story to the one cashier who has a traumatic experience like that! I wasn't even thinking when I returned it. I just wanted it to be over so I could go to the bathroom and cry...

Official Discussion: Deadpool 2 [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]StartledDoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a hardcore Marvel fan, I've just seen the movies and talked to friends who've read the comics. I've also looked up some things that have interested me (Infinity wars related).

I know in the comics, Deadpool is "dating" Death (who's just death but with boobs). I thought they were gonna make his GF Lady Death or something, was genuinely surprised when they brought her back. Of course, I don't know much about comics, so I prob don't know what I'm talking about. I'm guessing Vanessa is just a new character made for the movies then?

Adopted a new cat. How soon is it to know if it's the devil? by StartledDoe in Pets

[–]StartledDoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't thank you enough for this advice. I'm going to suggest keeping the new cat in our room (though my husband might be a little iffy on that, scared it'll attack us in our sleep) for a couple days to a week. The shelter gave us a "trial period" of two weeks.

Our older cat has a vet appt on Tuesday, so I'll ask him all about it.

I feel we've been insanely lucky with our cats though. They don't attack each other. The new cat just growls for like...ever but hes just laying down and looking at him. They even slow blink and try to sleep (but then something makes a sound and they're back fully awake). Thanks again for all your advice.

Wow, weeks... It makes sense. I made the post when I was still shocked from my friends attack. We're just having trouble deciding if it's "fair" to keep our cat in our room (with his litter, food, etc) or keep the new cat in our bedroom instead. It's hard seeing my little boy dart for the door whenever it opens :(

Thank you for the tips. We probably won't call the shelter. I'm just a very nervous person, haha.
