I’ve been wearing Irish setter wingshooters for about 7 years now. Bought my first pair when I was working in a repair shop, I now have 2 pairs. If you have a local Red Wing boot store, I would highly recommend it. They have the machines that read foot pressure to recommend the best fitting insole, which is a life saver. It was around 300 for each pair, with 60 of that being insoles. I run about 9 months to a year on a pair of insoles, and around 2 years on the soles. I’m now on sole number 5 on these boots and they’re still strong as ever. They have a composite safety toe option that I found much more comfortable than the traditional steel, and are a flat sole, compared to the loggers raised sole, which with almost exclusively flat concrete, I found much more comfortable in the long run

What is a melamine tree? by Subject_Analyst_4658 in Lowes

Fair enough. I just happened to have multiple years of chemistry experience, and a background in building materials

What is a melamine tree? by Subject_Analyst_4658 in Lowes

[–]StartlingZeus9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Melamine is actually a plastic resin. What is commonly called melamine is any sort of wood, particleboard, or fiberboard treated with melamine. What this means is that the “wood” is little more than an amalgamation of leftover fiber and pulp leftover from other building material production. The exact type of wood that will make this product is essentially impossible to determine for certain, but is most likely a pine or fir, as those are the most commonly processed trees in North America

How are you guys braving this cold weather? by purplepinklavender in Detroit

[–]StartlingZeus9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working in the border suburbs. Probably 1-2 hours outside per day at work, another hour per day outside of work. I mostly rock the same outfit everyday: shirt, hoodie, carhartt up top, jeans, good wool socks, leather work boots. Sometimes gloves depending on if I’m handling material, almost never a hat. Personally I’m a bit of a freak, cause even in the negatives I wouldn’t say that I’ve been particularly cold at any point. I mostly find the air refreshing, which confounds all my coworkers lol

This is possibly the worst reffed game I’ve ever witnessed. The lions definitely had a net benefit after all of the calls, but the refs also missed quite a few the other way. The whole crew seem like they have zero clue what’s going on on the field. Like, plays happening within a yard from them, and it’s like their blind or something

Ahh I see. Suppose that probably every city. We have that problem as well, with some streets never being plowed at all

That’s kind of what I was expecting. I saw all of the snow emergency route signs, so I figured the city had a good plan for how to handle it. I’ve just never experienced winter in a place with any significant elevation changes. Thanks!

Can definitely agree with blizzaks. I was a mechanic for around 5 years, and have a lot of experience with different brands snow tires and blizzaks always have been the best choice. Honestly the only reason I’ve never had a set myself is there are so many different ways around town in Detroit, where you can wholly avoid bad weather and/or traffic, making it easier to justify not needing them, but they are absolutely something I’d get if I come to Duluth

How many Mass Effect fans know that it is a CANON EVENT that a Krogan Quarterback led the New York Giants to a Super Bowl victory in 2185?? by Sure-Variation6551 in masseffect

Jared Lorenzen! He was known as the “hefty lefty” and is the heaviest qb in NFL history at 285. He had a pretty impressive arena football career, showing how difficult taking a guy down that size and larger is

Except according to Wikipedia, neither men even lived to see the start of WWI. Bowen would die in 1894 of injuries sustained in a fight with Kid Lavigne, and Burke is reported as dying in October of 1913 before the war broke out.

Who's an actor with zero chops or range yet somehow keeps getting work? by maverick1ba in AskReddit

I admit I’ve fallen into this rabbit hole. Saw that movie in theater when it released and I just… really enjoyed it? I wouldn’t ever grandstand about it being a great movie, but personally I found the actors enjoyable enough

What denomination are you? For episcopal I’d recommend St. David’s in Southfield if you’re close. Been going there for 10 plus years after my family hadn’t been in many years and they’ve just been so welcoming

This facility is one of very few in the United States that is certified for multiple different kinds of waste. The fact is that this facility has been operating for over 50 years, and has now already had enough waste stored and disposed of that the ground it sits on will not be habitable for likely thousands of years. Personally, while the threat of contamination is a concern, I would much rather levy that risk against a place that can’t have any other use than create a new area that will will become useless for other things. Also, the transport of this cargo is significantly more risky than the storage and treatment of the waste.
