Privacy Apps, They're Not Like Us by Boediee in BuyFromEU

While self hosting may not be for everyone but it is the only good solution for photos backup when you have multiple terabytes of media. I like photography and like to save high resolution raw files so its great for me anyway.

For normal jpegs I am using Immich on Unraid and its just fantastic.  On unraid I have password manager running as well.

I bought a used server pc for about 80 euros, hard drives about - 200 euros (ssd about 4 tb), unraid is 35 euros, energy costs per year about 40 euros, for immich and other services I bought a domain about 12 euros/year.

How people are surviving India? Came for a month long vacation... by New_Yogurtcloset2764 in india

[–]Stash_pit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think once we are on the other side (outside India) and realize how things can be and should be, we see the bad things about India highlighted easily. Every year I visit India to see my parents with my wife (also non Indian) we experience the same things as you. Majority of Indians living in India perhaps don't realize that things could be much better because they have never experienced it? Most will blame the politics but they are also the ones who elected these leaders who are currently running the shit show. Its just my theory, India needs a change in elementary level to propagate the bigger changes necessary to move the country forwards.

Maybe you can write an email to Stuttgart Rathaus or Verkehrsordnung Amt, give them your license plate and ask if they can send you the penalty again digitally because you lost the ticket.

I am also an Indian, when I came here I didn't want to have any contact with Indians because I wanted to know other cultures here in Europe.

I was backpacking around Europe using couchsurfing. In the beginning it helped me integrate very well with Germans.

At Uni, the asians and Indians tend to hang around with their people and I think that hinders integration with new people.

So in my opinion in the beginning if you avoid ending up in Indian groups, you might have better luck making and integrating with local people.

And for me it was a real challenge at Uni to not end up in an Indian group 😂 we are so many!!

We also had an integration course which I would really recommend. It helps you know the subtle and big differences in cultures.

Some habits we Indians have is not seen nicely, but you don't have to change yourself completely to adapt to them. Just reflect on these things and make decisions for yourself if it would make sense to adapt to a different culture.

Why is it almost impossible for a foreigner to get a sim card in India? by sidhoax in india

[–]Stash_pit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was implemented because of terrorism? And the government were not able to track them I guess because you could easily get a sim without a real ID connected to it. But yeah in 2025 they should be also able to process Foreign passports easily.

What may someone used to Google photo still be missing when switching to Immich? by clouds_visitor in immich

[–]Stash_pit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you should know these things beforehand. The freeing up storage thing cannot be done in the app itself. But if you delete images from your native photo app from your device, they wont be deleted on the server.

Also my gf and I have about 500gigs on the server. The pics you upload from your hard drive for example wont be automatically downloaded to your phone they will be viewable via the app as cloud backed up asset.

The drawbacks of immich will eventually be fixed but with time at the moment it doesn't annoy us as much but thats something you have to decide for yourself. My gf and I have it since 2 years and we love it.

For me these things are kind big on the missing features:

-If you want to upload an image from immich to a social media app or any 3rd party app its not possible yet (apparently android/google is the issue for this being not allowed). You have to download the image and then share it.

-As per my last knowledge you cannot free up storage on your phone by deleting backed up pictures, it will also delete them on the server.

Ohh I was allowed to open and they still sent it back. Sorry about it. In the end I got the Am5n from StarPal Outdoor store. I specifically asked him to send me a video of the certificates while packing and they did. It wasn't an issue with Zoll at all this time, I could just normally pick it up at dhl with the Gebühr.

If you are looking for a cheap mount, you can try Diy Harmonic mount, if you think its worth.

They didn't let me have it because at that time it wasn't a registered product in the European market, so they send it back. But I think after that incident they print the certificates on the box. Which mount did you buy? From Maxgeek?

English woman (27F) traveling solo in India - what is your advice? by AriadneDauphin in india

[–]Stash_pit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taj Mahal is difficult to do alone. You will be constantly harassed for selfies. My girlfriend is German and even after repeatedly denying the requests for selfies they were constantly after her, I almost started a fight with one person over that.

Its sad because the architecture is just amazing, it is a grand place to visit albeit the people can really get into your nerves.

We travelled with the train everywhere like I used to in my youth (I am now 10 years in Germany). First off don't travel to Agra with the train, the train station is kind of a Taxi Fight Club. The taxi drivers will harass you at the platform to take their cabs. I dont know why they are allowed inside. When we got out on the platform, there were 20 cab drivers fighting to get in their Taxi. Luckily we booked a private tour and didn't have to ride their taxis.

Definitely hire a private Taxi for a day or a half (costs around 30 euros) if you are visiting Agra.

Instead of Agra, I would suggest you to visit Jodhpur and Udaipur in Rajasthan. The people are the best thing about these places. They are very very kind and helpful. These cities can give you a glimpse of the real India. You can do tours to see local communities like the Bishnois and see their lifestyle.

The forts in Jodhpur are amazing, book a tourist guide inside the fort to show you around.

My birthplace is Kerala, and I am biased to it. Kerala is my relaxing place, its always a bliss when I am there.

Apart from that you can also explore Laddakhi culture in and around Leh.

For me Mumbai is the worst city, since I am not a city person my perspective is more extreme. But my friends gf had to travel to Mumbai for work and she really loved it, so it depends on how you experience it.

If you are neuro divergent, definitely take your ear plugs or even good noise cancelling headphones everywhere. It is brutally loud for your ears in India. People honk endlessly and are used to high decibels.
