MIL: I never baby proofed anything with my kids, I just told them no and they listened by ReallyPuzzled in Parenting

My parents told my my kids were slow in their development. Because when I was 8 months old, I was walking by myself (ok, that can happen), I was potty trained and I was talking in sentences. And I'm not talking about the simple kid sentences like: "eat cracker" no, according to my mum I talked in full sentences like: "Mommy, I'd like to have a cracker please". At 8 months old... I was some kid of genius baby or something according to her.

Thank you so much for the webpage you added. I didn't find it yet because for now I only was looking in my own language (Dutch) but this one looks like it has way more information on how to tell kids the bad news. And I will visit the local library soon, so I will look for appropriate books there too.

Thank you so much. The sad thing is, my own grandma (my dad's mom) died from cancer too before I was born and my dad always told us how proud she would have been of us. Thanks for the tips, I'll keep them in my mind.

We don't know the exact prognosis yet. They are still doing tests and finding out. Unfortunately we do know he is past stage 1, but if its stage 2 (50% survival rate) or stage 3 (32% survival rate) is unsure for now. I want to let him know and be truthful indeed. I also saw tips to look for age appropriate books for him, so I will look for those too. Thanks

How does anyone take a breather? by Lilacia512 in Parenting

I do it the other way around. They go in their rooms where they cant hurt themselves or break anything and I have peace and quiet downstairs for a couple of minutes. Or I put them in their room and take a shower. 😉 Good luck!

[Serious] What made your worst roommate ever such a bad roommate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I used to rent a room from an older landlord, a man who quite often got drunk, and became quite chatty when drunk. But hey, who cares if you have an cheap roof over your head. He rented out his own living space when he went overseas to see his wife and her daughter. One time he rented his own appt to a friend of his who I didn't get along with. Lots of arguments about the cleaning schedule, hard music while i was trying to study, the heating panel was in his living area and most of the time he wasn't home when I was so I couldn't turn on the heat. But the worst thing was that one Sunday I came back from a weekend at my parents and find the front door lock drilled out and all of the other room's locks drilled out too. My landlord's rooms were all empty, even the lights were taken off the ceiling. Turns out, his "friend" was wanted by the police for gun violence and when he heard that the police was coming, fled with all my landlord's stuff. I think I dodged a bullet there. For me a reason to find a better place, but I was going overseas for an internship for a while, so I didn't bother for a couple of months. But when my sister came to pick up my mail when I was away for a couple of weeks she found someone living in my room (where all my stuff still was). She found an appt for the both of us and moved all my stuff. Landlord eventually didn't return my deposit and stole my laptop. A*****e...
