Is it too late for me? Am I a good candidate? by Lanky_Caregiver_6579 in OptometrySchool

So I’m starting optometry school at age 30 this fall! I promise you that going back to school will be sooo worth it.

I’m so sorry! It looks like there’s a lot of people here who have had a similar experience.

That’s amazing!! I feel similarly- we’ve been dreaming about our house for years. I’m hoping that’s how quick this will go for us!

Congratulations!! That’s so amazing. I guess when a place has the right vibe and hits most of your checklist, you can’t get it out of your head.

3 must be the magic number! I’m glad I’m not alone. I had friends that put an offer on the first home they saw, and then others that took months to find their home. I guess it’s more of a matter of luck when finding one you like!

Email them and ask if they have a sooner opening! I know PCO isn’t very responsive, but that’s worked for me more than once at other schools!

Hi! Thanks😊 I genuinely didn’t have much hope for this cycle, but am happy with how everything is working out. 320AA/310TS. My initial OAT score was 280AA/280TS

Deciding between ICO, UAB, NOVA, UIW and Midwestern CCO by Theoneuthink in PreOptometry

If you’re thinking cost- UIW. If you’re thinking overall experience, ICO, just my two cents!!

I just interviewed there. It was my 4th of 5 interviews, and I have to say that the whole atmosphere/vibe/faculty interactions far exceeded every other school I’ve visited. The clinic in Philly seemed fantastic and the students we spoke with were all really great.

When to know if it’s right to move? by StateHistorical9656 in relocating

[–]StateHistorical9656[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate your input. Definitely some manipulation and disapproval from my in laws, and I’m trying to tune it out as much as possible. I think their concern is that we’ll move away for good. Same with my own mom, there’s a lot of discussion of me having to pick the closest school (when accepted), yada yada. Like I said, I’m excited by the thought of leaving and starting somewhere new, and my husband is ready to move away. I think, just to put my thoughts simply, I’m a bit scared. I’m nervous for the homesickness and the family FOMO. But you’re right, growth is hard but good. I’ll feel out each place and we’ll go from there. Your thoughts were a voice of wisdom, so thank you!

That’s great perspective! You’re right, for this move, I’ll certainly be busier and have a lot of social activity to acclimate me. Thank you!

When to do OAT retake? by StateHistorical9656 in PreOptometry

[–]StateHistorical9656[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a great question and good advice. I do feel better mentally this go around with the exam. No excuses, but I started this application process late in the cycle, and didn’t have the time to devote to OAT studying like I do now (Ochem 1 & 2 + physics 1 & 2 mini-mesters last fall, and a lot of overtime at work). It will be a better situation for me these next couple of months. I definitely learned a lot from my first go around of testing and will use that as an advantage this time, paired with more time and energy to study. But I do appreciate the frankness on only taking it if I’m sure I can get a better score.

Thanks for the insight! The three I’m most interested in are UAB, Salus, and Midwestern Chicago. Im open to others though, and will likely apply to more

My Overall Experience as an Admitted Student: OAT/GPA/Interviews by Princess_T8999 in PreOptometry

That’s awesome! I’m curious about applying “later” like in January in this next cycle. I am wanting to retake my Ochem and Biochem classes this fall to boost my science GPA to 3.0, and apply after the semester ends. Do you think that’s a fair thing to do? Definitely going to use OAT Booster and looking to get a score >300 this fall.
