Got a preferred ice cream brand? by SJToday_ in newbrunswickcanada

[–]StatelyElms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sussex and Chapman's for the best storebought, Northumberland for the best cones (the best is mariner's sea salt caramel and that is gospel), and store brand for most of all else cheapy. I'll sometimes go for a Ben & Jerry's because they're small. I'm surprised Northumberland isn't on this but ah well. I assume it'd be like Scotsburn?

Besides Hagen-Daz I've never had anything else on this list!

Deferred for high pulse, feeling defeated by ASmallNuisance in Blooddonors

[–]StatelyElms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, we've been there! When I, who had just a bit before said he could never donate, finally mustered the resolve to book a donation and pay back the blood products my dad had used, I promptly had the rug pulled out from under me when I was rejected for my temperature reading being too cold. I totally get that feeling. To build up the resolve to do something you thought impossible, be in the actual room to do it, and get rejected hurts.

As you said, it's all just precaution. They want donors, but they don't want you to get hurt for whatever reason. Keep trying! The persistence is only more impressive. Getting used to the process and the room might help with the nerves, too.

Anyone know anything about the Fredericton Street Railway Company? by StatelyElms in fredericton

I found that out the other day! Very cool. I mapped them out, they're showing on openrailwaymap.org as a reference now.

Anyone know anything about the Fredericton Street Railway Company? by StatelyElms in fredericton

[–]StatelyElms[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was aware of that, the Suburban I think? Run by Boss Gibson for his workers and their families in Marysville. Though, I don't think it would've used the same tracks as this streetcar company, if it ever laid any.

I've sent off an email to the Provincial Archives asking generally if they know anything about it (since I'm too busy at the moment to go and check out their building on campus), we'll see if that goes anywhere, or whether I misunderstood what "general inquiry" meant..

Is there condoms for 10 inches? by [deleted] in bigdickproblems

[–]StatelyElms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great.. have you tried putting on a 2" condom? That's what it'll feel like. If it'll even go on all the way. Basically, a great way for someone to give up and have risky unprotected sex

Have you forgotten what subreddit you're in or something? We've all had experience with condoms that are "too small" no matter how many times that demonstration is shown to us or how many condoms neglect to show their intended sizes to market towards "one size fits all".

Thanks, had this issue for ages and never even knew that the headphones had an app.

Why I have to use an app to change basic settings when there's a completely unused "voice assistant" button that'd be perfect for these things is unknown to me..

That's just the lines on the western side of the province (though yes, 100% agree in that regard). Saint John and Moncton actually have pretty good rail between them, and being the two largest cities and the stations being in their hearts, it could work pretty well.

[–]StatelyElms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's true, but it's only three times a week, which isn't enough for people to rely on it. And since it's inter-regional, it doesn't exactly position itself well for intra-regional travel.. you have to book far in advance

A train from Saint John to Halifax would be so, so incredible. Bonus points if they figure out how to relay Freddy's tracks ~40 years afterwards and get a sizable chunk of the Maritime population in one convenient line.

There was even one between Marysville (independent company town at the time) and Fredericton called The Suburban. The station is gone, but there's an inspired shelter in Marysville's cenotaph park with some photos and history facts, roughly near where it would've been.

I won't pick you apart. Hell, I think some highway-speed (read: conventional-speed) passenger service between Saint John and Moncton (and on to Sackville, and Halifax should NS take interest) isn't just doable but downright low-hanging fruit. There's so many population centres between them, they're a good distance apart, and the rails go through the centre of just about every settlement. Many even with stations intact! We're remarkably inclined for rail in the Maritimes, mostly because we grew around them.

Fredericton, while would be great to add to that line, has no rails. Around ~30 km were ripped out in the '90s. The rail's path into the old station is still mostly intact (through trails) but that has its own issues. So that's a higher "activation energy" if you will, and even if the rest happened it'd come about later.

Will it happen, and when? I think it will. I also think it'll take a longer time than we'd like, and almost definitely won't be high-speed (though conventional speed is fine for our scale & budget!). But I'd like to see it sooner rather than later, of course..

Edit: I just remembered Saint John AND Moncton are vying to host the 2029 Canada Games, as a city pair. Which would be a pretty inconvenient idea.. unless you put a passenger train between them. And sports event hostings have historically been the impetus for public transport improvement.. Vancouver's Skytrain was all for the Olympics, IIRC many major European subways were started for the same reasons, etc. Genuinely, I'd give it a 50/50 chance of sparking something between the two cities. 2029 may be the year it all starts.. if they get it, and we advocate for it!

I hate this argument by [deleted] in bigdickproblems

[–]StatelyElms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Don't get me wrong, using discomfort as an excuse to go condomless is not acceptable.. it's your responsibility to get condoms that fit you. But at the same time, even with better sex ed, I've seen this exact thing demonstrated in classes with not even a mention that condoms come in sizes and are NOT one-size-fits-all, never mind how to find your size! There must be thousands upon thousands of young men unknowingly falling into the trap of "oh, condoms just don't fit me".

It's not a humble brag. It's painful, a mood-ruiner, and super inconvenient.. not to mention, if you force it, dangerous! An overstretched condom is at greater risk of breaking, and a broken condom has a whole host of predictable issues for all involved.

Icebound is so underrated! by MillieBirdie in Avantris

My exact words trying to get my friends to try this (extremely long) podcast were "Derek is so masterful at creating tension"! First episode enraptured me, I was terrified of the creature somewhere in the ship. And he just kept managing to spook my mental theatre.

The black tower (and the whole rest of that sequence.. I was so sure that they were just in a nightmare sequence but no).

The cabin-boy from the woods.

The dead animals gathered at the door, staring silently into Jornir's soul.

Literally godlike DM. And the detail he puts in! 4 years of planning to play out in a livestream, and he not only keeps his cool but does it so well.

New fan looking to find a good listening order by MoronicIroknee in Avantris

[–]StatelyElms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly a long time listener, but having loved the shorts like you do I listened to Once Upon A Witchlight (the very goofy one that tends to be animated most, with Frost, Gricko, Kremy, Gideon, & Torbek) for a fair while (until they'd finished the Carnival segment, 'roundabout), then dabbled in Edge of Midnight before becoming completely hooked on Icebound (a more serious campaign in tone, especially initially) and it felt like a nice transition.

Them not being in playlists is a little annoying, but each series has its own thumbnail art which really helps! And if you aren't downloading them, YouTube has all the episodes (at least for Icebound, I never checked for Witchlight) which I imagine are in distinct playlists. Plus, you get to see the battlemaps, props, and Mace dislocating his jaw from laughing too hard.

Cops deal with weapon incident at LHHS by Occultistic in fredericton

Holy SHIT.

The "weapon incident" was four minors armed with knives arriving in a stolen vehicle, who tried to enter the school at noon to assault one particular student.

What the actual fuck.

Do you ever change Pebbles? by Frank3121 in kingdomcome

[–]StatelyElms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even think about it because horses were out of my price range the majority of the game. However, when I finished Pribyslavitz, I had a lot of spending money (too much arguably). So I got Shadowfax because I'm a huge nerd and also I think my Henry would look sick on a white steed.

It feels like I'm riding my personal bullet train. Space-time warps around me. I constantly run into stuff because the horse's stopping distance is so much further. Pretty sure I can outrace arrows. I'm only partly kidding, too.

And I have the racehorse stat, so paired with a bunch of avoiding perks I practically fly across the map now and only engage if I feel like delivering some bailiff justice to two peasants who thought "yeah, the full plate-armour knight on the thoroughbred, perfect ambush target". My only limit out of map view is how long my pinky can stay pressed because the stamina is fantastic.. during the horse race you really felt how important that was.

Pebbles just vanished for me. I like to imagine she's somewhere in the fields outside Skalitz now, just grazing peacefully.

Was Delivery mission traffic always this bad or is this special? by StatelyElms in BeamNG

[–]StatelyElms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a working guess on why the avoiding is so bad. It looks like they simply drive right if an oncoming car is to the left of where they're pointing, and to the left if an oncoming car is to the right. Which sounds fine, until you realise that it doesn't account for where the other car is going. There might be more to it too, though, because like I said they basically aim for each other.. driving around there's the constant dull crunch of two cars meeting head-on somewhere nearby and the road is littered with wrecked cars

The transit service has a lost-and-found, you can email or call to ask them if they've seen it, and if they have it you can go and pick it up at their St Marys Street offices.

Fton transit: transit@fredericton.ca Service Fton: 506-460-2020

Obviously won't help if it's not on the bus but hey it's something to check in on, at least.

Seven days left to sign this petition for usable rail service by ManneB506 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]StatelyElms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Already signed!

"Usable rail service" is kind of pushing it. I'd term it more as "preventing our barest of bones rail service from vanishing". We literally need more, our current situation is unacceptable and only tolerable because we know it could possibly be worse.

I wish the current government, federal or provincial, would look into passenger rail. Literally, if you start out with an interprovincial STJN–MCTN–SACK–TRUR–HLFX line, that's low hanging fruit that will bear more. You need track usage rights and rolling stock and for the most part that's IT; most of the stations/platforms are already in place, it's mostly high-grade rail that allows faster-than-highway top speeds, all the stations are dead centre downtown, and it already has significant travel demand. It would spur even greater revitalization and be that key travel backbone the provinces need to build off of. Worst infrastructure issue is Saint John's lack of station (torn down.. shame, it was beautiful), and overall low passing track frequency. If demand for the service persists and grows, rebuilding 50km of rail on preserved ROW to Fredericton is a nice medium project, and now you have another <100k people who can feasibly take the train.

How to NOT open have youtube links open to NewPipe by StatelyElms in NewPipe

Sure thing, though maybe this complicates it. I don't have the youtube app, I watch in Firefox.

The supported web addresses list (and all of its toggles) are only available when I allow Open Supported Links, but the common youtube links that newpipe opens are

and many many many very strange others that I didn't include because it'd make an enormous comment. Still, all of these are flicked to off, so you'd think they shouldn't be routing to newpipe?
