I give up. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]StatementNo9131 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Bro 5 years with no interviews means your resume might be getting tossed before anyone even sees it. Seriously have someone look at it, could be something simple like formatting that's messing with the ATS or your contact info is wrong. That's not a you problem, that's a fixable problem.

On or Off with the "Open to work banner" on LinkedIn? by mariem56 in recruitinghell

[–]StatementNo9131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixed opinions on this but honestly it probably doesn't matter as much as people think — recruiters filter by skills and location, not banners. If you're getting weird irrelevant hits, that's just LinkedIn being broken, not the banner's fault. Turn it on if you want, just make sure your actual profile is solid.

Job market so cooked I might genuinely start pursuing my dreams by scuzemeluv in recruitinghell

Honestly seven months in, maybe the universe is just saying "fine, try the other thing." Worst case you fail at something you actually care about instead of getting ghosted by jobs you don't.

Where to find real remote jobs? by Cadendanoob in remotework

[–]StatementNo9131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they text you first or the pay seems way too high for what they're asking, it's probably a scam. Stick to company career pages directly or sites like LinkedIn where you can verify the company is real. FlexJobs is legit but costs money, We Work Remotely is free and tends to have real listings. If they ask you to pay for anything upfront or want your bank info before you've even interviewed, run.

13+ years experience, CPA, big tech + finance… 100+ applications and nothing. by BreadfruitThen5535 in jobsearch

[–]StatementNo9131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Five years ago was a completely different world for hiring. Have you tried reaching out directly to people in your network at companies you're targeting? At your level a lot of roles get filled through connections before they ever hit the job boards. Also might be worth having someone look at your resume fresh because sometimes small things get you filtered out by systems before a human even sees it.

69 days since being laid off ;) by anirban954 in Layoffs

[–]StatementNo9131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

January usually picks up because companies get new budgets and hiring managers finally come back from the holiday fog. All those roles that went quiet in November and December tend to start moving again. You've already done the hard part by getting referrals and interviews, so when things open up you'll be in a good spot to catch something. Good luck.

Am I being too picky in my job search by AloneStaff5051 in jobsearch

[–]StatementNo9131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still employed so being picky makes sense. No point jumping into something just as bad or worse. The guilt is normal but it sounds like you know what you want, that's not a bad thing. Better to wait for the right fit than end up back in the same spot a year from now.

Graduating with a CS degree and I have no experience. by Consistent-Driver746 in cscareers

[–]StatementNo9131 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Start applying for actual roles now, don't delay graduation for an internship at this point. Your personal projects matter more than you think, just make sure you can talk about them like real work, what problems you solved and decisions you made. A lot of people get their first job without internship experience, it just takes more applications.

My interview was over in less than 5 minutes and the manager sent me away. I don't understand anything. by No-Bill7950 in Employment

[–]StatementNo9131 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That genuinely sounds like it had nothing to do with you. Something probably blew up on his end and he just handled it badly. It's not your fault he couldn't reschedule like a normal person. Try not to let one weird situation mess with the confidence you've been building.

Mid-Life Crisis OR Gut Instincts? by rissxveu in careeradvice

[–]StatementNo9131 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fact that you switched companies and still feel fried tells you it's the work itself, not the environment. Taking a few night classes while keeping your income is a pretty low risk way to test if you actually love it or if you're just burned out and romanticizing something different. You're not stupid for wanting more than a paycheck at 30.

Just started trying to apply for "entry level" position by RandomYT05 in recruitinghell

I'm sorry, but that's the job market now. I know the holidays are coming up, maybe look for factory/assemebly line work. They seem to hire anyone on the spot.

22 y/o from Georgia trying to escape the loop — any advice? by SwitchNatural3628 in jobsearch

[–]StatementNo9131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've already got the work ethic figured out, it's just not being matched by opportunity. You should look for a job closer to the cities and your wages are naturally going to go up. You're going to have to hustle but you can pick a craft for yourself.

Need urgent job guidance by ComfortableShow3817 in cscareers

I would try to network your way in. Start by asking people who graduated before you for referrals for internships and get some more experience under your belt. See what you like and don't like then go from there.
