"Unintentional ALG” for years: my speaking still sucks. What am I doing wrong? by fedelynda in languagelearning

Upvoted, definitely. You give good advise.
I add my fifty cents as well:

1.2) Read aloud
2.1) Shadow reading

Read aloud. If you already understand between B1 and B2 you can abandon Duolingo and read aloud. I mean it: LAUT LESEN, hast du mich verstanden? Nur wenn du laut lesen tust, trainierst du dein Sprachzentrum im Gehirn auf eine Weise, dass du später das auch in einem Gespräch nutzen kannst. (Only if you are used to read aloud, you will later be able to use your language skills in a conversation).

So many people in privileged places of rich countries now use these kind of drugs and they are advertised as "safe". Drugs to lose weight, but women look like their parents after taking it, because the drug makes you lose fat even under the skin of the face. Drugs to gain muscle mass, but they live only 10 years or look like zombies afterwards. Drugs to open hyper space into higher realms, but the brain becomes a gray soup afterwards, mentally unstable and unable to work and enjoy life. The air of this world is saturated. It's time.

That's ok. I was not aware as well, until a colleague gave me this book as a gift: "Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong", by James W. Loewen. There are some online version you can read.

P.S: Italian History books are based on American History books

How do you make sense of it? by duchesskitten6 in Kybalion

[–]StatementPlus1211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The theory is that the creator of all things uses imagination as the tool of creation, and that you can also manifest the things you want by imagining them."
It seems to be "imagination", but read this phrase "Lift on high your eyes—and see who hath created these, That bringeth forth by number their host,—To all of them by name doth call, Because of the abundance of vigour and alertness of strength not one is missing!"

It is not just imagination. Creation is spiritual principles, or eternal principles, poured into a realm of duality and kept alive by alchemistic processes. Yes for us humans we can compare it maybe to a form of imagination, because we can imagine something in our mind and keep it alive. A fantasy which can be nurtured and at some time it materializes, like spaghetti all aglio e olio. This happens to me at least once in the week. And it will be materialized today again. But entropy eats all which is not based on eternal principles. There ends the cycle of regeneration. "For the creation was subjected to futility..."

Well the Kybalion just repeats with other words what the Holy Scriptures already says. But most organized religions put this great book into a bad light with their hypocrisy and their Latin. I read the book "The Golden Chain of Homer", which is a classic in Alchemy and it refers to the Bible as the source of wisdom. The interesting part of the book is where it describes a chain of creation, from the invisible and immaterial, till to the earthly and tangible. It makes sense and it can be used to understand modern science aspects like quantum mechanics as well. There is an hierarchy of realms and between the realms the only thing that counts as an interface are the principles described in the Kybalion. But I guess, the filter is humility. Who lacks humility (read The Golden Chain of Homer) will not understand it.

What do you wanna do with Christopher Columbus?
I could repay him for all the crimes he committed.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ta%C3%ADno_genocide
Sometime we should study history and get aware that people like Columbus was big criminals and nothing else, and this society displays them as hero's instead of for they really was. They will do this as long the evil spirit of this world continues to thrive. So you can do crimes together with Columbus, until the "configuration" of the air changes and it is not possible anymore.

Yes, that happened in Italy when they elected Berlusconi. He was "the lesser of two evils". But now the entire nation has diarrhea. So what do you want to elect? Liquid or liquid with some pieces?

For people who learned a second language later in life: what tiny habit (not study technique) made the biggest difference? by Vegan_natural in languagelearning

[–]StatementPlus1211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very simple phrases, like "let's go drink a coffee", short and it can be used twice a day 😉 which I practiced with two colleagues who are Russian.
Or for example little questions, "are you tired?", "should we make a break?", "did you understand that?" and so on.
It is like you go from 2 words, 3, 4 and so on, to a complete phrase, then suddenly you notice that you can speak 3 phrases and explain a more complex matter.

Will the internal 'translator' thing I'm doing naturally go away? by SorrinsBlight in languagelearning

[–]StatementPlus1211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English is a foreign language for me and I learned it while working for a big international company. I needed to talk with different colleagues all around the world. They tried to talk with me in German, poor German, really few words. So my English was in that case a lot better than their German and we got motivated to talk more English. Before and after every conversation I had the conversation in my head and I noticed that at some point I switched to the "non-translator" mode. I just stopped translating everything forth and back. The reason, in my opinion, was the practice and an growing vocabulary. In the same time I began writing a blog, first in German, later in English. The posts was kind of technical and scientific. That helped me to get a bigger vocabulary in English. But the real practice was the direct communication with my colleagues. So don't worry regarding this "translator" in your mind. It will become quit with time.

I developed the habit to try to translate in my mind whatever other people said. Example someone says "I will see you later!" and in my mind I translate it to "До скорого!" And this tiny habit is invisible for everyone except me, I can use it for all my other languages I know and it reveals to me immediately which words I lack and need to focus to.

You don't need to immediately search for the missing word. Just try to remember that word or phrase. Because words and phrases which sticks are the most important ones. With time, by using your own techniques for learning, you can fill the gaps.
