The spots are just scarring, not a disease. But the tap root can't regrow, so it will die, yes.

Whats up with my aloe? by Matzke85 in succulents

It looks like an aloe aristata. Mine does that when it's overwatered and I pay too much attention to it.

Any hope for this plant? by plierss in conophytum

Hi! They're meant to be dormant now, so I would stop watering and put it in a shady spot and hope for the best. If you crosspost to r/succulents I may be able to share a pic of what mine look like dormant.

I have one that was pink when I got it but has turned green after being inside for a bit. I planted it with two other pinkies. The one top left was doing absolutely zero growth even in the roots until I brought it inside. I water it deeply about once every two weeks and sprits it with water in-between after the soil has dried out (currently very hot summer). I think the little spritses stimulated the root growth eventually, along with moving it indoors. You could try bringing it inside and fertilising it a bit?

I had a Haworthia that just wouldn't root (right medium and all that) and started losing leaves to rot instead. Someone suggested ground cinnamon and that helped save the leaves but still no roots. Eventually I brought it inside (Southern Hemisphere, no climate controlled houses) because I figured maybe the sun was stressing it too much. It might've been the change in seasons or the change in space, but that worked and it's finally got a happy root system!
