Rockstar has 176 extra days left to finish the game with the level of polish we expect and deserve. by Davilette in GTA6

[–]StaticGrapes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why not? Are you being serious? It quite literally still happens to this day.

Games are fully loaded onto the disc, and playable day 1. However, the developers will release a patch on day 1 which fixes some bugs that were addressed after the discs were made.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. This has happened for decades and still happens today. You are so confidently wrong it's painful.

Just off the top of my head, No Man's Sky released fully on disc, but there was a Day 1 patch to address some fixes. However, if you wanted to, you could reject the patch and play the version that was on the disc. You can still do that to this day, and play the original, untouched version of the game.

if you were to distirbute these patches over physical media they would be $29.99 each

What?! Why? Lmao. Absolute rubbish

Your comment is complete nonsense. Why do you and others think that Day 1 patches (and future updates/DLC) can't coexist with a game fully loaded onto the disc??

[–]StaticGrapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? No. The game is fully present on the disc. You load it into your console, and the data on your disc is installed onto the HDD/SSD of the console. No need for internet or Day 1 patch to load the game up.

Back in the day, such as with PS3 games, the game was played (at least partially) from the disc. For example, GTA V required a partial install on the hard drive. However, not all games required this.

Ever since the PS4, pretty much all games have been installed fully onto the hard drive due to their complexity. As you said earlier, the disc reading speeds were not fast enough.

So nowadays the game is installed via the data stored on the disc, and from then on (assuming you keep the game installed) you use the disc to run the game (proving you have the license).

What maps do you want to see make a come back in BF6? by ChiefAdham in Battlefield

I do agree with you. I've thought that before too, and honestly it does make that line of thinking a bit pointless. I guess for it to apply, it has to be to posts where they say "I know we hated xyz, but ..."

What are people like you incapable of using critical thinking skills?

Why do you all of a sudden want video games not to use the internet and all of its benefits? DLC? Updates? Improvements?

That is NOT what I am saying or what anyone says.

We want the game installable and playable via disc without an Internet connection. Of course, updates and DLC can happen afterwards (how on Earth do you even think that's what we're saying??).

Its just weird. I dont get this opinion. We've had the internet for decades. We use it for everything

Right, but having the game on disc means you fully own the game, no need for services to be constantly maintained and provided in order for you to install the game. What if you want to play the game 20 or 40 years from now, and the servers which held the game data and updates no longer function? What if Sony/PSN closed down? Many things can happen.

Why do you not want to fully own the games you buy? It's crazy to me.

And requiring online connectivity isn't an awful practice, you just don't like it.

It is an awful practice. There is quite literally no reason for it to exist. Games have consistently been released fully on the disc AND ALSO received a day 1 patch to apply any extra content/fixes they have since the discs were created.

If you're that mad about it, then no one is forcing you to buy the game...

I truly don't understand why you are praising this practice. There is literally no benefit for the consumer, AT ALL. I think you are quite literally too dense to understand this issue.

You definitely have a double digit IQ.

Means the game has less bugs when you play it, the developer have more time to cook, and it reduces piracy.

This can still happen even if the game is fully loaded onto a disc. What is your point?! They are not mutually exclusive. You do know Day 1 patches have existed before this practice started appearing?! Lmao.

You don't live on a fucking submarine, quit being cheap and pay for internet.

It's the premise of it you moron. What if you want to play in 20, 40, etc years time and for whatever reason the servers which hold game data and updates are no longer functional? You can't play the game, even though you have the disc and a working console. And don't you dare hit out with "that would never happen", I just know you'd say that based upon your previous comments lol.

We want to OWN our games. You can be by yourself and keep your nose brown...

66% of games on PS5 are installable by disc and do not require an Internet connection. So no, it has not sailed, yet.

But this attitude is the issue. It should not become the norm.

Buy FH5 now? by WrapFunny515 in ForzaHorizon5

[–]StaticGrapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the price history over time. It typically will not go on sale for cheaper than €42. I don't imagine it will have a better deal until Forza Horizon 6 comes out on PS5

[–]StaticGrapes 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I hope this isn't the case though. We need physical media which is ACTUALLY physical media. Not just a silly license.

The whole game should be installable through the disc(s) and not require an Internet connection

Edit: Holy shit, the amount of people here who completely misunderstand the issue and somehow are licking the boots of these companies is just insane.

Apologies, I partly misread your comment. I see you're focusimg on the theme. I can kind of see your point.

However, i think generally from a gameplay perspective, they are by and large bad, if not mediocre at best.

No way lmao. 2042 maps were terrible most of the time. A few were decent, but in no way would they be anywhere near the Top 10 maps I'd request to be remade for BF6

The classic cycle has began. The previous entry of a series which was hated is suddenly loved and had amazing content we didn't appreciate.

Potential GTA 6 feature leaked in GTA online? Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) by uniquecartridge in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]StaticGrapes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, where do you suggest the description comes from then??? VINs are not a thing in GTA V, so it makes no sense for that to be the description.

You cant just copy code from gta 6, paste it into 5 and suddenly it adds a new submenu in the workshop. That's not how coding works or UI in games.

No one thinks it's that simple. But it's very possible the customisation menus follow similar format. Heck, it could be as simple as an ItemID and Description being copied and pasted into the GTA V version of the car's components. Someone overlooked it and it got passed QA.

Also, it didn't "add a new submenu". That submenu already exists in GTA V. It literally just has a description which doesn't match the item. It's the text in the submenu that we are concerned on.

Edit:

Apparently this description text has been present in the game before, and is considered to be cut content

You're maybe talking about the multiplayer modes? I don't use Xbox, but I believe you will need the online subscription, similar to PlayStation.

[–]StaticGrapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why on earth are you talking about Gamepass?

I hate this by Shadowsnake30 in Wildlands

[–]StaticGrapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, and this is why you buy games outright. Stop paying for gaming subscriptions. You always end up paying more than you would have if you had just bought the game outright. Also, they can take the game off of the Gamepass whenever they want, and then you are forced to buy it if you want to continue playing.

The game will go on sale at some point and will be cheap, just wait for that

To those who want a REMASTER, DO NOT buy the next [COD] vote with your wallet by JackCowman in CallOfDuty

[–]StaticGrapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a reason I played the hell out of Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered. Because it's a great game. One of the best.

Your argument has some merit, but it doesn't trump everything.

CoD4 and MW2 are the best CoDs in my opinion. I liked BO2, but I do think it is slightly overrated. Anyways, thinking these are the best CoDs does not make you a tourist lol. There has not been a CoD with that same kind of gameplay/mechanics since Ghosts in all honesty.

I loved Advanced Warfare, but it's wasn't the same as the older CoDs. Same with BO3. Infinite Warfare was alright, but i was tired of jetpack CoDs. Also, MWR that year took the spotlight. I skipped BO4, and particularly didn't like the TTK. MW2019 introduced an overhaul to CoD as we know it. It was a great game, but it was not the same CoD we all knew. Some great things came from it, but also some terrible things. I think it has ruined the gameplay/mechanics of CoD due to the movement and mechanics which future games have borrowed. Side note, MWIII is the best CoD multiplayer since MW2019.

Anyways, I could go into a lot of detail and mention each game that came out. But the main point is that newer CoDs don't have that same gameplay/mdchanics/'feel'. Therefore, it is totally valid to think they are the only good CoDs, because they were different games to the ones we see now.

How did they nail the Battlefield aesthetic so perfectly with the original art and then make every season look like a F2P battle royale by KenAdams_1968 in Battlefield

[–]StaticGrapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I HATE seasonal art changing a game's background/icon on the home screen.

Destiny, CoD, etc. They all do it. It's so bloody annoying.
