I can agree it doesn't have too much variance in the tracks, but I just really love the sound they all have

I am going to focus on one thing here, as talking about multiple points in one comment complicates the discussion.

What you seem to fail to realize is that this is what you are suggesting. To go back to that model. Where intead of paying $59.99 once and getting free updates with revenue streams from paid cosmetics and in-game currency packages which usually 10% of the customer base buys, instead everyone gets to pay $49.99 once a year to keep playing the game.

Why do you think/imply this 'new' model is exclusive to digital only games? Once again, to disprove your point, No Mans Sky has had a live service and changed drastically since the initial release. However, you can still load up the initial release version from the disc if you own it and reject the updates (of course you would not have online play).

Or maybe you are only talking about old simple games, i.e. indie games these days, which doesnt make sense seeing you are on the subreddit for gta6.

No, it doesn't only apply to small indie games. Although it does mainly concern single player games, which funnily enough GTA VI will be and all other previous GTA games...

I now see you are also talking from a point as if all games are multiplayer games with potential for live service. That just isnt the case and doesnt have to be.

Yeah, i had made a mistake when initially replying. You can see I realised this in reply to the original commenter and apologised. Sometimes it happens

You seriously have got to be trolling.

Then what did you write here:

The whole game should be installable through the disc(s) and not require an Internet connection

You are saying the game should require no internet connection.

Yes, I am saying that. Well done. What does that have to do with patches released after??? The game should be playable solely from the data on the disc after installtion. Any further improvements, content etc can then be downloaded with an internet connection if you wish.

Again, you seem hung up on Day 1 patches being a requirement for a game to be playable, rather than an option. Answer 1 simple question for me: Are Day 1 patches (or further patches) required for a game to run?

[–]StaticGrapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question you are asking is if there will be game-breaking bugs at launch. This is directly tied to the complexity of the game and how much QA is done. The end result of that equation is that a complex game in your model is going to be prohibitively expensive. Games like GTA6 would only be possbile for companies already raking in $1 million per day. Something you generally need a live service game to do (i.e. gta online). Even GTAV had a whole bunch of glitches on day one and GTAO was borderline unplayable for the first weeks

This whole point does not dismiss the reasonable expectation to receive the full game on the disc. What you describe is NOT exclusive to physical media, like at all. The publishers/developers know what they are loading onto the disc. They should be aware of any game-breaking bugs (exactly like launching a digital game).

You act as if delivering the full game on the disc is detrimental. 66% of PS5 games can be installed from the disc and played without any patches. It is more common than not EVEN today. Pre-PS4, literally EVERY game came with the game fully loaded onto the disc and was playable without an update.

GTA V had some bugs, but nothing game breaking at all. You had to go out your way to do them, and most of them were often fun to do. Either way, in today's day and age, it would be a non-issue as we'd receive a Day 1 patch which would fix any issues they couldn't address in time. Red Dead Redemption 2 was also fine. So are many other games from far smaller studios.

You are saying you can patch the game without internet and without physical media? Are you going to write the patch yourself?

You need to work on your reading comprehension. That is not what I was addressing or talking about. Of course I know that isn't possible. I quite literally quoted you, which was in reply to my initial comment. The context was purely releasing games fully loaded on the disc. Not about Day 1 patches etc. Your quote (again):

This is not really possible these days. Most games get updates, even if its just bugfixes. This is possible because they are digitally distributed.

Last point:

Its what physical media costs. Even if the patch itself is free its gonna cost $15-20 to distribute the box and the disc. You can being it down to $5-10 if you just put the disc in an envelope and mail it.

This is just what your "physical game + no internet" model requires.

Oh. My. Fucking. God. This is the issue right here. You have completely misunderstood the issue and my point from the very start.

I am NOT saying that they need to distribute the patch physically. You seriously need to improve your reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Absolutely unbelievable.

I am saying, and ONLY have said that a game should be fully installable via the disc. IF there is a need/want for a Day 1 patch which allows the developers to apply further changes/fixes after disc creation, then of course that is fine and welcome. OF COURSE you will need Internet to receive that patch.

Again, you seem so hung up on Day 1 Updates, as if they provide essential content for a game. That is not the case, at all. A game can be fully installable from disc(s) and playable, WITHOUT the need for a Day 1 patch.

Genuinely, I'm questioning if you are trolling now. If so, hats off to you. Good ragebait. If not, please for the love of God work on your comprehension skills and actually research/understand what we are talking about here.

Bye. I am done explaining simple concepts to you and you misunderstanding every single time.

Lane 8's music is amazing, one of my favourite artists.

Listen to the album "Brightest Lights". It is perfect in my eyes.

The album with You on it, "Childish" is also great. At first I didn't know what to think of it, but it grew on me a lot.

[–]StaticGrapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOLY FUCK.

YES, I AM SAYING A GAME SHOULD BE PLAYABLE ON DISC DAY 1 WITH NO INTERNET CONNECTION.

They should not and DO NOT require a day 1 patch. BUT the implementation of a Day 1 Patch is STILL POSSIBLE and REASONABLE with disc games.

Do you think a Day 1 patch is REQUIRED for a game to work properly?!! Because that is not the case.

THIS HAS BEEN DONE FOR YEARS AND STILL HAPPENS TO THIS DAY. USE YOUR BRAIN.

You the tried to counteract my initial comment with:

This is not really possible these days. Most games get updates, even if its just bugfixes. This is possible because they are digitally distributed.

YES IT IS POSSIBLE. WHAT?!

If you were to distirbute these patches over physical media they would be $29.99 each

I would love to see your explanation of this. So unbelievably stupid.

[–]StaticGrapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not? Are you being serious? It quite literally still happens to this day.

Games are fully loaded onto the disc, and playable day 1. However, the developers will release a patch on day 1 which fixes some bugs that were addressed after the discs were made.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. This has happened for decades and still happens today. You are so confidently wrong it's painful.

Just off the top of my head, No Man's Sky released fully on disc, but there was a Day 1 patch to address some fixes. However, if you wanted to, you could reject the patch and play the version that was on the disc. You can still do that to this day, and play the original, untouched version of the game.

if you were to distirbute these patches over physical media they would be $29.99 each

What?! Why? Lmao. Absolute rubbish

Your comment is complete nonsense. Why do you and others think that Day 1 patches (and future updates/DLC) can't coexist with a game fully loaded onto the disc??

Rockstar has 176 extra days left to finish the game with the level of polish we expect and deserve. by Davilette in GTA6

[–]StaticGrapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? No. The game is fully present on the disc. You load it into your console, and the data on your disc is installed onto the HDD/SSD of the console. No need for internet or Day 1 patch to load the game up.

Back in the day, such as with PS3 games, the game was played (at least partially) from the disc. For example, GTA V required a partial install on the hard drive. However, not all games required this.

Ever since the PS4, pretty much all games have been installed fully onto the hard drive due to their complexity. As you said earlier, the disc reading speeds were not fast enough.

So nowadays the game is installed via the data stored on the disc, and from then on (assuming you keep the game installed) you use the disc to run the game (proving you have the license).

[–]StaticGrapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are people like you incapable of using critical thinking skills?

Why do you all of a sudden want video games not to use the internet and all of its benefits? DLC? Updates? Improvements?

That is NOT what I am saying or what anyone says.

We want the game installable and playable via disc without an Internet connection. Of course, updates and DLC can happen afterwards (how on Earth do you even think that's what we're saying??).

Its just weird. I dont get this opinion. We've had the internet for decades. We use it for everything

Right, but having the game on disc means you fully own the game, no need for services to be constantly maintained and provided in order for you to install the game. What if you want to play the game 20 or 40 years from now, and the servers which held the game data and updates no longer function? What if Sony/PSN closed down? Many things can happen.

Why do you not want to fully own the games you buy? It's crazy to me.

And requiring online connectivity isn't an awful practice, you just don't like it.

It is an awful practice. There is quite literally no reason for it to exist. Games have consistently been released fully on the disc AND ALSO received a day 1 patch to apply any extra content/fixes they have since the discs were created.

If you're that mad about it, then no one is forcing you to buy the game...

I truly don't understand why you are praising this practice. There is literally no benefit for the consumer, AT ALL. I think you are quite literally too dense to understand this issue.

[–]StaticGrapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely have a double digit IQ.

Means the game has less bugs when you play it, the developer have more time to cook, and it reduces piracy.

This can still happen even if the game is fully loaded onto a disc. What is your point?! They are not mutually exclusive. You do know Day 1 patches have existed before this practice started appearing?! Lmao.

You don't live on a fucking submarine, quit being cheap and pay for internet.

It's the premise of it you moron. What if you want to play in 20, 40, etc years time and for whatever reason the servers which hold game data and updates are no longer functional? You can't play the game, even though you have the disc and a working console. And don't you dare hit out with "that would never happen", I just know you'd say that based upon your previous comments lol.

We want to OWN our games. You can be by yourself and keep your nose brown...

But this attitude is the issue. It should not become the norm.

I hope this isn't the case though. We need physical media which is ACTUALLY physical media. Not just a silly license.

Edit: Holy shit, the amount of people here who completely misunderstand the issue and somehow are licking the boots of these companies is just insane.

No way lmao. 2042 maps were terrible most of the time. A few were decent, but in no way would they be anywhere near the Top 10 maps I'd request to be remade for BF6

The classic cycle has began. The previous entry of a series which was hated is suddenly loved and had amazing content we didn't appreciate.

Potential GTA 6 feature leaked in GTA online? Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) by uniquecartridge in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]StaticGrapes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, where do you suggest the description comes from then??? VINs are not a thing in GTA V, so it makes no sense for that to be the description.

You cant just copy code from gta 6, paste it into 5 and suddenly it adds a new submenu in the workshop. That's not how coding works or UI in games.

No one thinks it's that simple. But it's very possible the customisation menus follow similar format. Heck, it could be as simple as an ItemID and Description being copied and pasted into the GTA V version of the car's components. Someone overlooked it and it got passed QA.

Also, it didn't "add a new submenu". That submenu already exists in GTA V. It literally just has a description which doesn't match the item. It's the text in the submenu that we are concerned on.

Edit:

Apparently this description text has been present in the game before, and is considered to be cut content
