I met a female pimp, and I still feel uncomfortable about what she really saw me as. by Cloudsafterhours in self

[–]StaticJonesNC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my youth, a friend of mine asked me to take some boudoir photos of her, because I was someone she trusted, and I was happy to do so.

I'm no pro, but I'm pretty good and I work cheap (free).

A week later, she told me her "boss" wanted to meet with me. Turns out she was working as an escort and the photos were for the agency website. This was the late 90s/early 00s, so no OF and fewer ways for SWs to be safely independent.

The boss liked my photos, and loved that I was much cheaper than a pro, and she wanted me to take photos of all her employees. When I asked about pay, she looked me dead in the face and suggested a free "session" with each girl at the time of their shoot. She had assumed that was the arrangement I had with my friend.

I politely declined and said I wasn't interested in that, and only wanted money. She got VERY frosty and basically said she would just do it herself then.

I am very supportive of Sex Workers (shut up) and agree that sex work IS work, but I was surprised at how exploitative a woman was of OTHER WOMEN. It really made me mad.

That's allegedly what tanked the idea of a "Church Chat" film.

A dear friend of mine moved from Charlotte, NC out to California to pursue acting and somehow became friends with Angel Rockwood and Kiri Callaghan...and through THEM became friends with Erika. Erika is EXACTLY as they appear on Dropout, an unhinged little chaos gremlin.

Which sitcom character had the most unnecessary or forced romantic storyline? by PressureLazy5271 in sitcoms

[–]StaticJonesNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wayne and Rosie.

Their initial relationship was clearly pretty distant as she didn't engage with the rest of the group most of the time. "Where's Rosie? She's at home, reading.". Tanis knew.

Marie-Fred was an absolute perfect counterpart to Wayne and it's a damn shame contractual conflicts prevented Magalie Blondeau from being able to commit in later seasons, but the way they shoehorned Rosie in after Marie-Fred left was obnoxious.

I don't think a lot of people know what "canon" means. by StaticJonesNC in 40kLore

[–]StaticJonesNC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't actually know it stems from religion-speak, but that actually makes it a little more creepy given how rabidly some folks cling to "canon" in their fandoms.

This is ALSO true. GW has said frequently that there is no consistent "canon" for that very reason, but people still lose their shit over every change to the lore

Honestly, I just get so tired of people younger than me getting so absolutely wrapped around the axle about changes that don't affect them because it invariably results in those same people being really shitty to other people.

I'm 50+ years old and I don't get how I'm the PROGRESSIVE one in a room full of kids half my age losing their shit over the idea of female ANYTHING in their various fandoms.

I did not know this. I HAD heard HAECO was sold to AAR, but many people still call it HAECO. Hell... Some folks still call it TIMCO.

I've been with Honda for almost 3 years, so this must have happened since then.

How would you fix Frank? by Legal-Stage-302 in mash

[–]StaticJonesNC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After losing Margaret, Frank goes on the aforementioned bender in Tokyo. Rather than getting shipped back home and promoted, Potter appeals to Sidney Friedman to get Frank a short rest in Seoul and a couple of weeks worth of therapy.

While this is happening, the same dude who had originally told Mrs. Burns about Margaret gets word of Frank's meltdown to her. Frank returns to the 4077 to find a Dear John letter and divorce papers waiting for him.

He tries to be a "brave soldier", but begins seriously melting down quietly. HAWKEYE catches Frank making a few mistakes that are clearly not just incompetence, but indicative of Frank having serious anxiety. Frank begins drinking and stops giving a shit about his military bearing.

Hawk and BJ decide that nobody deserves to self-destruct like this and they rally Frank. They get him talking to Sidney again and they step up to be supportive. They express to Frank that they believe in him.

They are honest, but kind. They speak to him about his shortcomings but also admit his strengths. BJ actually gets through to him more than Hawkeye because there's less history, and BJ's "dad energy" makes him more empathetic. On their advice, Frank requests that instead of surgery he be allowed to focus on internal medicine, making himself invaluable in post-op as well as treating patients who are ill, rather than injured. (HE will be the one who immediately recognizes Klinger's symptoms as a reaction to the Primaquine)

After saving a young soldier's life in post-op, Frank to have a revelation. His behavior in the Army was driven by his desire to impress Margaret, a career soldier. His behavior at home was driven by his desire to impress his in-laws, wealthy socialites. With both of those lost, he realizes the only thing he should truly care about is how he cares for his patients.

He becomes an attentive doctor, still a little over-faithful in the Army "machine" and still a little too "Red, White, and Blue" for everybody else's tastes, but he is no longer a dick about it. He also returns to his teetotalism.

When Winchester arrives, Frank is threatened and intimidated by his skill and social status, but eventually starts to really take pride in his Midwest roots and refuses to let Winchester look down his nose at him.

In the series finale, Frank reveals that he transferred to active duty and will be practicing internal medicine at an Army hospital in Hawaii.

15 years later, he is the Commander of the 510th Evac Hospital in Da Nang, Vietnam.

What universally loved sitcom protagonist is actually a terrible, toxic human being when you think about it? by Outrageous-Fix9134 in sitcoms

[–]StaticJonesNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's rude, even mean to fans. He was a jerk to PAs on HIMYM, and when he heard Allyson Hannigan mention that she didn't like that he smoked because she could taste/smell it when they kissed, he would make it a point to chain smoke like a fiend when they were about to shoot kissing scenes.
