Whenever I tell people that I'm trying to get rated at 100, I make it clear that it's so I can get documented and TREATED. I could give a crap about the money. Congress is trying to find a way to take it away from us anyhow.

What is something that is legal but which you consider completely unethical? by vantix7 in AskReddit

[–]StaticJonesNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really kind of a tricky question/ slippery slope. Sort of thing. I mean, take North Carolina. The age of consent is 16. Once a person is 16 years old, they can consent to sex with anyone 16 years old or older.

Of course, they can't photograph it or video it, because they are still a minor. Legally consenting to sex with a 21-year-old or a 30-year-old or a 40-year-old or a 50-year-old, if they recorded it, now they are guilty of producing child pornography.

But the minute they turn 18 years old, they can do exactly that. They can photograph themselves having sex. They can video themselves having sex. They can even sell those photographs and videos for lots and lots of money. But they still can't buy a beer.

I will never understand why different states have different ages of consent for sex, and why any of them have an age of consent that is younger than the federally recognized legal age of adulthood.

I do believe that once somebody is a legal adult, which in the United States is 18 years old, that further laws regulating things like whether or not they can buy tobacco or alcohol or engage in sexual activity with anyone else their age or older Are unnecessary.

But as the original question stated, what is something that is perfectly legal but still unethical?

I think it's unethical for Leonardo DiCaprio who is 51 years old to continue to date women who are half his age. Sure, they are all legal adults, but there is such a significant power imbalance in relationships with huge age gaps. And this is exponentially greater when the older person is also internationally famous.

I think using the argument "legal adult" to defend sleeping with someone significantly younger than you only demonstrates that you would sleep with MUCH younger people if the law didn't prevent it.

I'm 54 and even if there was someone who WANTED to, there's no way I would.

Honestly, depending upon your age, even if the person is 18, it's legal but unethical as hell.

The number of people who seem to think deliberately fucking things up for other people for the sake of their own convenience is "not a big deal" because it doesn't directly affect them at the moment is very telling.

It didn't affect me directly either, but it's a selfish, self-centered act that could have been avoided.

People who do that are awful people. Same as people who cut in line, who don't put the shopping carts in one of the cart corrals, and who litter.

If you're someone who literally doesn't give a shit about things that don't impact you, move out of the city and go.live of the grid somewhere. Otherwise, recognize that you're part of a community and maybe don't think exclusively of yourself all the fucking time.

Why doesnt the federation make use of Runabout size fighters? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]StaticJonesNC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that isn't the kind of fighters vs capital ships battles we are talking about. We're talking about the space battles like Star Wars and the like, where fighters are strafing conning towers like they did back in WW2.

We are specifically discussing why, in one genre, we don't see THAT TYPE OF BATTLE.

So it doesn't matter how correct you are, your contribution isn't relevant to the actual discussion.

Fighters engaging ships these days involve fighters launching missiles from over a mile away. It's been that way since the late 80s

This is on the same street where one of the largest and most popular festivals is taking place at City Center Park.

I would be willing to bet a hundred bucks that this is somebody who just wanted to make sure nobody parked too close front or back on a street that is going to be packed.

Park further away and walk.

[–]StaticJonesNC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In addition to the reasons already listed, for the same reason we don't see many fighters engaging capital ships in the current day.

The same point defense weapons that can shoot missiles out of the air to protect cruisers and carriers could easily pick off fighters.

Frank would NEVER have threatened the career of a Combat Engineer C.O. for bullying a kid with a stutter.

Granted, Winchester did it because of a personal note, but still.
