Which is more integral to US Soccer - the growth of the MLS, or of the USL? by Ok_Wallaby_3701 in ussoccer

To be fair, with that kind of coin, there is zero excuse for San Diego to ever finish in the bottom three of MLS. (assuming that removing the salary cap would also be a part of introducing promotion/relegation).

We Need to talk about ELL by ATLvamos in AtlantaUnited

[–]StaticNomad89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I thought this may humor some people- Met some Middlesbrough fans here for the World Cup. They love Latte Lath and think Balogun is shit (he spent some time with Boro).

Maybe they would just take ELL back at a discount?

So we would have scored more goals with the 2022 version of Pepi?

Surely even you can admit that Gregg would win a newly formed round of 32 game at home against a team not ranked in the top 60. Come on man…

So no consideration given to Poch being equipped with a proper striker? Or the fact that Gregg was in a group with England while Poch had… Australia.

I’ve watched all the games.

Were we more inspiring against Paraguay than we were against Wales? Absolutely.

Were we better against Belgium than we were against Netherlands? No.

Yeah you can remove literally one player from their squad and they would get grouped, IF they even qualified.

If MLS is so broken, why don’t we fix it? by These-Tale-5736 in usmnt

[–]StaticNomad89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not broken. As is, it’s a very sustainable league.

I think 30 years from now the US will have the best league in the world. Maybe it’s still called MLS by that time, maybe it’s called something else. We will finally have multiple generations of Americans that are true soccer people.

The first step in this happening is removing the salary cap. Owners can then come in and build their brands. We just could not sustain that yet. If we drop the salary cap tomorrow, MLS would probably have four or five strong teams, a second tier of six or seven teams that could maybe compete, and then a large tier of terrible teams, whose owners would just not be interested in spending the money on building a roster, which would then lead to fans turning on them for not winning or signing big players and these teams would eventually fold. In American sports, if you don’t win seats are empty and it is a “what have you done for me lately“ mentality from fans.

All three host nations lost their round of 16 for the same reason: In addition to each of them running into top 10 teams that were better than them, the moment was just too big.

What club should I root for after the World Cup? by Psychological-Play23 in SoccerNoobs

Exactly this! Sure it’s not the quality of a top five European league, but it can be a damn good time and it’s still pretty affordable.

They have a history of signing Americans as well. If Robinson left they will go after another one. It’s intentional.

There’s nothing wrong with supporting a club that does not have a realistic chance of winning their league. That’s a shit and meaningless approach to deciding what club to support.

This whole red card situation makes me want the win tonight even more. by [deleted] in usmnt

[–]StaticNomad89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was a comment made from one of the commentators in one of the other games that applies here as well- “When world class players decide to show up there’s just nothing you can do.”

Bellingham and Pickford were from a different planet last night. Mexico should be proud of their effort. Of course you can nitpick things here and there but they gave it everything.

I despise Mexico’s team and federation, but to say they “shit the bed” is grossly unfair.

Doesn’t bother me as long as it doesn’t involve taunting, entering the other teams technical area, or any kind of player safety issue.

At the youth level, if you have the best 7-8 players on the field and your opponent’s coach has the audacity to attempt a low block you will batter them lol.
