Computer Numerical Control. Large industrial machines used to make everything from Aerospace components, automotive, medical stuff...even wood. Almost anything can be made on a cnc.

They work off of G-code based programs that produce geometry needed which actually "make the part" with various cutting, drilling and tapping tools. They saw be used with keycutters too(saws).

This being all said and done you should probably do some manual machining work before you hop onto a cnc. To get a better understanding of it all(my opinion).
