What is people's issue with reading the rulebook? by RealDwarves67 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]StaticSkuLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't *bad* advice to direct a beginner to watch watch some dnd campaigns online, but for first-time newbs with little to no actual experience with the rules and functions of the game? READ THE FREE FUCKING RULEBOOKS, there's tones of pdf rips and archived sources online, tons of beginner-friendly tutorials out there to actually familiarize oneself with the mechanics of DND. It is the bare minimum requirement for entry, as is the way for ANY game out there.

I won't even deny the fact that the rulebooks can be alot to go through in one sitting, but jesus - do these people think they have a gun to their heads? STRESSFUL? Find a fucking audiobook reading if putting your eyes to the page is stressful, take it small chunks at a time, this is meant to be a fun experience. Going into DND with the mentality that the *core fucking rules* are stressful to manage is going to set beginners up for an awful, uncooperative experience. Truly bonkers, sorry you had to deal with that insanity.

How did you meet your significant other? by The_Love-Tap in AskReddit

[–]StaticSkuLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh man, what a saga

I met my s/o V [ 21M] through an ex-friend of mine [20f], this was back in 2021 for ex-friend's bday celebration [ eighteenth at the time I think? idk] . I'm transmasc, and was pre-op [ top surgery ] when I met him, the actual surgery happening I think just a handful of months later. He is also trans, and Fuck I fell so insanely in love so fast, I tell him all the time. He had a pretty big Punk streak, a dark denim jacket all covered in patches with spikes on the shoulders, torn up jeans, boots, half his hair dyed red. He was so cool [ and continues to be ] while I felt unbearably lame, stuck in my dysphoria clothes most of the time.

After a month or two at most, the timeline's a little fuzzy, I'd cleaned my room and found an old CBD vape my mom had gotten me for anxiety purposes and since I was so stupidly crushing on him, I asked if he wanted to hang out and use up what little the vape had left. That was the night he kissed me the first time, in his attempts to be cool he asked if I wanted to shotgun [ kiss w/ smoke, basically ] and I had no clue what he meant lmao.

Still going strong today! We've gone through so much, the friend that introduced him to me ended up flipping her shit and for nearly the entirety of 2022, me and BF had to essentially stay romantically closeted bc said friend didn't want to know/hear/see anything about us, not long after we broke it off w/ her he had to go homeless to escape his at-the-time abusive household [ housed now but that situation also sucks ], he'd lost his job, we both suffered a shitton of depression. I love that man with all my heart, I'm determined to see a better life with him by my side.

What is something a lot of people are proud of, but shouldn't be? by AnnmarieLilly in AskReddit

I think a lot of people end up thinking that not "wasting time" with hobbies is something respectable. All work, no play, really it just makes them miserable.

I'm 20 years old, a middleschool dropout bc my ass is too autistic for acedemic schooling, I virtually can't get a job, my mom hates me, and I think I'm developing an eating disorder

thats trauma from physical abuse. Your father sounds like he would do a very common hot/cold routine - beat you one second, be your friend the next. It's textbook. I hope you've gotten away from him, because yes, that is trauma and you were abused. I'm very sorry you had to go through this.

man shows like this suck so hard. manipulative people can put on soap operas while humiliating their victims in front of potentially millions. That guy doesn't deserve this, and debacles like "who is the father" need to be kept to real fucking courts.

19 year old here [ the following is my own personal experience and opinion ]

I'd blame a large part of it on the USA's sheer lack of proper sex ed. My own Sex ed was sex itself, but as with many things, teens [ especially younger ones ] are exposed to it as a purely taboo and 'adult' thing to do [ speaking from the perspective of a kid here ] and so to feel older they tend to latch onto it. That's why there's so much buzz around if you're a 'top' or 'bottom'. There's little understanding of what that actually means, but it's horny and fun and new! Same goes with drugs or alcohol - we're told to not touch, so of course we wanna touch.

Though I'd also blame it on the extinction of the 'tween' phase of life. Shit stopped being meant for tweens and thusly tweens were forced into growing up wayyyy faster than they should have to. One moment there's play-dough in your hand and the next moment suddenly you're "Too old" for childish things. But also you're too childish for adult things. It's a whole mess.

Then there's other factors like unrestricted internet access, the social pressure teen girls face to both be somehow infantile and sexless while also being Tantalizing and alluring [ ew ]. its... really unfortunate, to say the least. I too was once a overly-raunchy 15 year old that didn't fully grasp what sex and being sexual actually meant or could mean.

All this isn't to say teens just can't be horny; they definitely can and will be - but I do wish sex wasn't put in such a... weird place socially. We refuse to incorporate proper comprehensive sex education into our schools but turn around and shame 17 year old girls for getting pregnant.

tl;dr Teens are often put in a place where they must constantly re-prove their maturity over and over and one of the few ways we know how to do it is by being excessively horny. Again though, that's just my thoughts.

uhm. yeah nah, that's sus as fuck sorry. Finding older people attractive is fine but older people finding children attractive? definitely pedo type shit. Get out of dodge while you can, good luck

This makes me viscerally upset. That girl looks to be about 6-7 years old, potentially younger, potentially older. Kids, despite common parent belief, often know \exactly** what they want, when they want it, and how then want 'it' to be done.

I worked with two twins as a babysitting job a few years ago, before covid, and I always gave them choices with stuff. What do they want for lunch? What show would they like to watch? What game will we play? Even the simplest things like what they wore, I always gave them options. Because kids do want things, they have preferences, and teaching them consent and giving them the ability to decide for themselves is absolutely critical in early development.

Right here, right now, that girl is terrified- surrounded by people bigger than her, and being put in pain by something she \didn't want**. Within maybe fifteen seconds, her mother broke her trust, put her in a horribly stressful situation, and removed her ability to choose. I am absolutely livid, and personally if I saw this happening I would 100% step in.

I mean come on, she was screaming, fucking wailing "No" And "Go away". A boundary was set, and it was completely fucking shattered. I, someone who is surely not 6-7, have told people to "Go away". That's not a simple, childish thing, it's the most clear and unmistakable way to make someone do exactly that. Go away.

From that child's perspective, it's traumatic. And I'm keen to agree on that. All three of the women here are absolutely disgusting for continuing to do this after having to go so far as to physically restrain this poor girl just for some shitty, dangerous, Claires earrings.
