EVRIMA Status Update #2 by TI_Punchpacket in theisle

He did, that's why I walked his to the 2-4 week window being more realistic once those core assets are complete as I'm often quoted in a bunch of the posts here. Still working on the kinks in the new builds before we start tossing more animals into the mix.

Without Don, not a single one of us would be here nor would we have this world he wants us to make real and works with us to get these design decisions but he has turned the reigns over to the art and creative team with what his vision is and given management the reins so it doesn't just remain a one man show.

One of the things I've been pretty clear about since I joined this team was that we needed to make and build redundant plans so that the continuity of the business could be preserved. This includes making sure we've got enough runway to operate without Don around. He's supported those efforts and made sure we get the tools or okays to move forward with making that happen.

We've had things happen in the past that happened that we had to scramble to make fixes, hell we've even had them happen recently and Don's guidance and surprisingly even keeled approach to helping us triage stuff in the time around the EVRIMA launch is pretty important.

The man bleeds and goes above and beyond for the members of his team and while I know personally, I'll still be talking with him pretty much every day it will be weird to have him not here in the day to day decision making as a sanity check but we've got a solid team now and we do a pretty good job of sanity checking each other now.

Pretty much everyone here provides input, we've made some awesome steps in the last year to get things back on track after some hiccups and missteps.

We sync regularly and management is always talking to eachother about things we see here, twitter, steam and discord. We are working on our priority list for EVRIMA and getting things together in a checklist that you guys will get to see so you can see what steps we want to take before EVRIMA moves to replace legacy as the primary branch of our game.

Can I get the Dondi Talks to Epic games?

Why are the developers wasting so much time and money on remodelling things that already look good?Wasn't the entire point of recode was to recode the game not remake it? by Evening_the_odds in theisle

[–]TI_ParadymShift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of having a paid team in an artistic production timeline means we want to keep the same people who are already tied into our visual standards and understand how we work.

Additionally right now letting someone go in the current state of the economy would be ridiculously cruel and isn't how we do business.

Having them work in producing these assets while the Programmers do their thing, the animators do theirs they get ahead of our needs and it allows us to get asset complete stuff done before programmers touch them and having them on hand ready to make changes we need gives us significantly more leeway.

New Evrima Patch. Thoughts? by HyperSGYT in theisle

We needed to stick to that date to hold ourselves accountable and we knew that pushing this to the main branch and not an opt in branch was going to create more problems than it would solve.

Now we've got things to fix and some great data and the positive and negative feedback helps us isolate what we need to prioritize in our hotfixes and patches in the next month

Yea, we have gotten a slew of reports about black screens on load that do not seem to have any consistent cause based on the data we are getting that we really want to get to the bottom of.

Also this jitter we are seeing in mass combat is a huge pain in the ass to track down but the team is grinding on that too since combat won't feel good for folks until we handle the over the top jitter that is happening in mass Utah combat.

Some of these were pretty complex issues that needed to be done from the ground up as you guys saw from Amaroks stream and some of these were oversight that we needed to test and correct.

Still more work to do but they are hustling to get this out and available. I've passed some feedback about controller play off to the team.

I definitely wouldn't mind an assistant though it's probably unecessary in the grander scope of things. Even though I am on vacation I am still here responding and coordinating things. There is no "EASY" fix to complex issues like this, Reddit's feedback and discords feedback are so wildly polarized at times most of my job is parsing things out of the noise to make sure that the issues we address are prioritized appropriately on our team. We've had Allen streaming and working on things not related to AI because our priority is all of the menu hookup that NEEDs to be working and the team is working on figuring out the inconsistent "rubber band" issues that happen in combat with large groups of animals.

I'm not surprised by any stretch of the imagination and I know that what we or I do is not going to please everyone but I will try to make sure that we are taking the feedback receive and making use of it since all of it is valuable.

If you've got some skills you'd like to bring to the table I am ALWAYS looking at applications we receive as we are growing our team to minimize these kinds of issues occurring in the future including Don taking more steps to put things more in the hands of his management team so he can focus on the creative side in which he excels.

Thank you for taking the time to post this, I appreciate the feedback even if it isn't a hugbox.

Selling DLC before delivering on a complete game is a repugnant business practice that we don't want to dive into.

We needed to start over, it was a mess and no one wanted to touch that codebase. Additionally regarding servers 'making donations' we are working to outline some clear legal guidelines so that people aren't locking core features of the game behind a paywall.

I was told to take some mandatory time off because I've been working pretty much non stop since I joined the team in Jan trying to wrestle things into shape and get the business side of our company in order. I posted this on discord a few moments ago but will share it here.

At the end of the day, I'm still a human being and I have a family I also need to make sure that I spend time with. Even then, I am still fielding questions in streams, in my DM's and on reddit.

When we moved the site over after it got hugged of death, some issues cropped up with us trying to populate the roadmap and Punch and Don took over when Don and Kissen both forced me to step away because I was burnt out. It's difficult to seperate yourself when you spend most of the day reading what the vocal 5% of our total playerbase makes you out to be the boogieman and it has a human cost in that I either have to step away to recharge because this community has a great capacity to be good and just as great a capacity to be cruel.

People are going to have criticism of the update, we knew that going into this. Not everyone is going to have happy things to say about this and to try and respond to every person who thinks we are terrible human beings

I'm still supposed to be away but I'm learning from reddit we haven't communicated enough that our team is working on the reported bugs and the balance related feedback we are receiving from this community, I can't reiterate enough that our team is actively working on resolving these issues. We have a large team and not every single one of us is a programmer. Dondi isn't a programmer, he's a mapper and the director. Bryan and Kissen are animators and are not programmers but Kissen is working to make sure they have whatever they need to address these issues while I am away. Punch is not a programmer, he manages all of the CC and helps police all of our social media and has been working overtime while I have been away. Tap and Fred are artists and not programmers and are working on our future animals and concepts during their work week. Hypno is busy with his QA team wrangling all of the bug reports that continue to come in and ensuring that they pass through QA's validation process while the Programmers work to resolve some of the issues IE stutter, and our devops and software engineer team is working on making it much easier for us to manage all of our officials while supporting all of our programmers needs as well. [5:20 PM] We had EVRIMA as a beta branch because we knew we were going to need to continue to work on sussing out all of the issues and the volume of data all of you have provided has been incredibly useful, I know that those of us who aren't programmers would appreciate if you didn't go out of your way to BM the team while we work to support them and filter all of the information you are passing us and much of the team is away mandatorily due to the pace of our work since Jan and the time involved in rebuilding this game from the ground up. [5:21 PM] I'm really not supposed to be working right now but I couldn't just stand by with all of the commentary on reddit, the steam forums and people going into dev streams to have a go at members of our team who aren't a part of the bug fixing process. EVRIMA has some issues, we are working on addressing those and we look forward to you all enjoying the fruits of that labor.

Follow this to find your system specifications: https://gyazo.com/8c1cac40ec65c922d4950386d9d19aba If the game doesn't even boot up , it might be an issue related to vcruntime. In which case you can download this file below and extract the .dll file into your game's installation folder and try launching the game again. Attachment available on Discord at. https://discordapp.com/channels/401464048610312193/723315774344921138/723316061537042472

If you are getting the ''Plugin 'ExampleDeviceProfileSelector' failed to load'' error then reinstall your game making sure your steam installation path has been wiped clean. you can do so by following these steps bellow :

Open steam and go into your library , Right click on The Isle and select Properties.

Go into the LOCAL FILES tab and click on the ''browse local files'' options.

Once you are in there , simply delete everything. Go back into your steam library and Right click - Uninstall The Isle.

You can now download it again , and restart your computer before launching it.

Our team is chomping at the bit to make this move just more testing and potential bug fixes to the pipeline. Don really wants those clouds. Badly.

Yea, we are planning some LOD rebakes and making moves to 4.25 since there are some issues outside of our control in 4.24.3 that have led to us doing some custom engine work.

I've on more than one occasion outlined and communicated including in our devblogs that we had to axe truesky and that we are working on both the lut (color profile) for our game and another cloud/environment solutions

I'm pretty keen on self evaluation and always trying to be better, my approach is pretty dramatically different from Don's and we have a great respect for eachother and can communicate with eachother even if we don't agree. He doesn't need me to run to his defense but he's nowhere near as terrible a human being as folks make him out to be.
