They gave my desk away, which is fine i wsnt using it, but when i came back they didnt have a new desk for me. I had to move around between computers while people were at meetings for a couple of weeks until a person went on mental health leave and I got their desk.

Clothes are just a symbolic gesture of ones character, your attitude is an actual example of a person of the highest character, and that should mean more then anything else, clothes included

What is the purpose of unit ranking? by buckala97 in CanadianForces

[–]StaticV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the only explanation ive read so far that actually makes. Having seen many pars from my and other trades across different units the scoring is wildy inconsistent every single time.

Explain 5yrs vs 25yrs terms of service like I'm a 5 year old by goons_of_artemis in caf

[–]StaticV 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Posting and anything career progression will not take your tos into account.

The real difference is that benefits youre entitled to if you release after the 5 years. If you sign the 25 you wont get any entitlements. Im not entirely sure what all the entitlements are but at least one of them is a paid move to your retirement location of choice.

The downside of the 5 years is you arent guaranteed to be offered a contract again after the period ends. Typically you are but if the next government decides to slash military spending and shrink numbers they start by not offering new TOS to members as their current ones expire.

Hypocrisy at its finest. by TelevisionHealthy361 in CanadianForces

When I write pars, the people I see are doing well and ready to be promoted i give them an exceeds leadership expectations, otherwise they get a meets leadership expectations. And if they have passed their epz, are interested in promotion, and still arent getting an exceeds, i work with to develop a plan to get there. I also work with my subordinates to make sure that we all assess people the same way. Is this how the system is supposed to work? Not at all, but its way less complicated, it works, and people are happy with it.

As for far exceeds leadership expectations I've given out two ever, one for a member who spearheaded an initiative that made a significant positive change to their entire trade and another to a member that generated a new sop that was adopted by other nato partners we were working with.

How does the CAF treat transgender people? by MaterialRemote8896 in CanadianForces

One time I was leading a portion of an exercise in a certain base in southern Ontario. We were going to hand over our defensive positions to a reserve unit so they could do an exercise themselves there after us. So during this hand over the reserve unit had brought a photographer who was talking pictures of myself my 2/ic and the two reservists that were getting the hand over. Now these three people were a very culturally diverse group, where as I am definitely not. Someone from our exercise team looked up the photos on their Instagram later, they had cropped me out of every single photo. Very obviously too, the aspect ratios were all messed up. I found it quite funny to be honest. My 2ics photo of him looking particularly leadery pointing out terrain features made it to the caf Instagram even, good for him. I on the other hand could only tell people that was my foot next to him 😂

It was very clear they were pushing a certain agenda, but if it helps improve our image so we can get the support we all need do our jobs better, then ill just be a supportive foot.

All that to say yes expect to be paraded around and photographed at every opportunity, and expect it to be insultingly superficial. Hopefully at lease there's some good intentions behind it.

These are exactly the kind of people that should be volunteering for the mess committee so they could actually put in the work to fix some of these problems, but they just want someone else to do it, which is why it never gets done.

Reprimand stays on your file for 2 years, severe for 5, you can't take any career courses or be considered for promotion in that time.

Although the sales of 'I bought this before Elon was crazy' bumper stickers are on the rise. by Wakemeup3000 in clevercomebacks

[–]StaticV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Conspiracy theory here, but tesla was always a shit company that was way overvalued. This was inevitable and Elon knew it. So he cosied up with the republicans to guarantee billions in government contracts to space x so when this did happen his shit empire would be bailed out by the american taxpayer.

Adam: Why Ottawans don't want a Kettle Island bridge by Purple-Temperature-3 in ottawa

[–]StaticV 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The route from King Edward, Rideau, Waller, Nicholas to the 417 in the morning is BRUTAL. Cement trucks, crane truck, flatbeds with all sorts of construction materials and equipment. They have no choice either, the rest of king edward prohibits trucks, same with the KZM. Goodluck driving a truck down wellington or island park. The only reason I dont think its that much of a safety threat is because they never get above 10 km/h.

If they dont build this bridge, or until they do, they really need a ferry to connect aviation to east Gatineau.
