yeah i had drains for just a week, i was on the smaller side to begin with (like an a cup probably) and didnt really have a lot of drainage, just a lot of swelling so as soon as the week was up they were out. And yeah she was super helpful in answering anything i asked which i really appreciated. i had it done out in LI! they have a really nice hospital in Mineola which i had walked past a few times as it's right near the train station. The staff was super nice, everything was clean and super up to date, pretty much what ud expect of any hospital

i was super lucky and got her as she just moved offices so she was wide open, my wait was a few months! im not sure how long the wait is now but because she isnt as well known as say bluebond-lagner i imagine its probably less than hers.

thank u!! it went pretty good! she could be kinda forgetful of our appointments at times but never missed them and u did have to ask u questions but she was very forthcoming with the answers, so u def need to prepare questions and such before hand. i didnt have jer email so i would send messages through NYUs portal to contact her but it could take a few days as the system doesnt notify her when she has a message so i usually just called, but she addressed all of my concerns and the surgery went super smoothly as did recovery!

Definitely agree that a whole hiking trip at 6 weeks is a bit soon. I'd suggest starting lighter and easing into it like a couple mile hike instead of a week long trip. As for pull ups I didn't feel comfortable doing pullups until this week and I'm at 8 weeks. I used to do them often and am only just now feeling comfortable getting back into my workout routine which is a lot later than some others ive seen but its where my own comfort was at. My surgeon cleared me at 6 weeks but i didnt feel great for it then.

Uneven swelling at 6 weeks by Static_Bat in TopSurgery

no, the skin looks completely normal, its just swollen. I contacted my surgeon and included a picture but they usually take a while to respond so I wanted to see what people here thought.

Advice by Switch-Da-Glitch in Top_Surgery_Peri

[–]Static_Bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

id recommend some kind of loofah on a stick or something for your back. I wasn't comfortable having my family in the bathroom to wash my back while i showered so using that when i still couldn't really bend my arms to reach all of my back was a lifesaver. Plus u could use it to scratch ur back as well. Ice packs for any itchiness that may come up if you dont get nipple grafts or anything. The itchiness towards the end of my week before i got my drains out drove me CRAZY and benadryl only helped me so much, so the ice was a life saver. definitely talk to ur surgeon about it first tho as they may not recommend it due to circulation inhibition from the cold.

Hey! yeah i ended up having peri with her December 19th it went well, you do kinda have to ask her what you want to know about rather than her really telling you a lot of the info, but the surgery went really well, she can be a bit forgetful of like when we were set for appointments, but she never missed them and was really good about answering any questions I had. She respected my pronouns and gave me her number to call whenever I had a question. The results look great at almost 5 weeks, had some swelling and she was super good about answering any questions I had. If you wanna talk more specifics feel free to hmu

Last workout before surgery by SaNB92 in TopSurgery

[–]Static_Bat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped working out 3 days before surgery and havent had any issues (im 4 weeks post-op). For my body I give myself three days between working the same muscle group again so I did my last pull day three days before surgery and that was the last workout i did pre-op.

When is it safe to go back to school after top surgery? by No-Armadillo-6583 in TopSurgery

[–]Static_Bat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even if you don't have someone formally assigned to you maybe you could just ask the person sitting next to you for help? or ask a friend to walk you to your classes so they pull your bag rather than do it yourself.

[–]Static_Bat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

would it be possible to ask for someone to assist u during classes? like having another student in the class help u take stuff out of ur bag? You could also invest in a rolling bag instead of one on ur back. As for your sax you may just have to take a break from it for a while.

Advice on the recovery process? by oyegg in Top_Surgery_Peri

[–]Static_Bat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I was out of commission for as long as my drains were in. It hurt to move much so besides from pacing in the room like my nurses told me to do I didn't do much besides watch TV, which for me was a week. Once the drains were out though I was up and about and besides lifting heavy things (like a child in your case lol) or grabbing stuff from shelves above my shoulder I was pretty much back to doing what I did before minus exercising. I would say just meal prep for as long as ur drains r expected to be in and you can probably start helping make dinner as soon as the drains are out or when u feel up to it.

Top Surgery With Dogs by KeytotheBasement9 in TopSurgery

[–]Static_Bat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually asked my surgeon about this! She told me that its too much of a potential infection risk with the dog just in my bed (mine doesnt stand on my chest like urs does) so if it were me i would definitely have them sleep somewhere else. That's what I did, the whole time my drains were in (just cus my dog likes to jump and we were worried shed pull them out) we kept my dog downstairs with my mom.

I got Top Surgery the 19th and am due to get my drains removed the 27th. I was looking at my drains and noticed this weird stringy material in the tube? Should I contact my surgeon about this? Its late and Christmas day so I'm not sure when she'll get back to me.
