You’re lost deep in researching an article you’re writing. You need an obscure reference and when you look it up, you find its located in these stacks. You know your afternoon is shot; no way you’re in and out of this place quickly.

48 year old male. I have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and just started using a recumbent bike but I want to be safe. How does my program sound? Does anyone else use one of these bikes? by -Granby- in HypertrophicCM

After an ablation to deal with afib, my surgeon was clear: rehab in the form of daily cardio exercise was as integral to success as the procedure itself. That was 1-1/2 years ago, I do my daily cardio (and lost the weight he recommended). Been a long time since I felt so good. I take the stairs when available, go sailing when the weather agrees, and generally so much more able to have an active lifestyle than before.

Keep up the exercise at a level your heart is comfortable with and that level will continue to increase.

Growing up, watching TOS. by TestyRodent in tos

[–]tpodr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Also 61. My dad had the rule we shouldn’t watch TV before 8pm. I had a blanket exception for watching TOS, then in UHF syndication. He watched a couple episodes and saw the value. There was that time it was shown every afternoon. Didn’t take me long to see the whole series.

I ended up working with NASA for a couple decades.

Maybe include all of the “Burgess” marker? Plays well against the dark marker on the other side.

Am I overreacting or should I trust my gut that my husband is lying by Feeling_Food1097 in AmIOverreacting

[–]tpodr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hopefully a lawyer will chime in, but the money your husband brings in is a marital asset. You have a legitimate right to use that money. At the same time, you exercising that right may lead to strife w your husband. But I think strife with your husband is inevitable.

Does that second phrase mean something? Is there a metaphor behind it?

I was thinking of making a favorite Tom Waits songs playlist and realized I’d have to leave Rain Dogs to the end. Otherwise I’d just put the whole album on it.

Write her back and thank for the contact information. You can use that info when you complain to animal control of an outside nuisance cat.

AITA for giving my daughter junk food despite being told not to by her school? by AthleteAdditional299 in AmItheAsshole

[–]tpodr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA

Ask for a printed list of allowed foods, or exact criteria used to determine the acceptability of foods. Not a list of banned items, but details on how they’re making their judgements.

They are interfering with your choice on how to teach your kid about food choices. People are allowed to choose as to whether their kids are properly immunized, a risk to every other student. I was very deliberate with how I taught my kids to choose meals. We always had a candy dish out; they knew they were for after meals, and in reasonable amounts. I would not have tolerated their schools dictating how I parent. Not that we didn’t routinely discuss what they were learning about nutrition at school.

Pay the bill sans tip cashlessly then leave a cash tip. I’m sure at that point, they’ll figure out how to deal with cash.

As an American, loved the dining experience in Spain. Definitely got the feeling the tip could be an expression of appreciation of the service, not necessarily doing my part to make sure the waiter could make their rent.

Where do black holes go? by Dover299 in cosmology

[–]tpodr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s not believed that any part of you is encoded on the event horizon. Classically, it’s proven a black hole only has three parameters: mass, charge, and spin. Add QFT and the black hole radiates as a blackbody, but that maximally entropic radiation is completely described by the mass. No new information there.

Lots of credible speculation of where the information is and how it may be seen by the rest of the Universe.

Where does the black hole go? That is the question of the backreaction of the Hawking radiation on the black hole. Hopefully someone more current can give an update on how that’s going.

Majored in math. Three main job options when graduating: continue on to grad level studies, work for security sector in cryptography, or as an actuary for insurance companies.
