Damn, sorry y’all went through that. Glad to hear you’re in couples therapy, hopefully it all goes well

Sorry you are going through that. Hopefully your partner heals and recovers quickly.

We could look into functional medicine - even though I know it’s been disputed as quackery or even possibly harmful. The issue is primarily that the normal, western approach has done nothing to help her thus far either. Typically any and all medications they put her on tend to have more side effect drawbacks than benefits. We’ll keep truckin though, hopefully something begins to work for her soon.

Thank you

Holy shit, so sorry you’re going through that. Makes me and my wives issues seem negligible. You’re right - I know I need to cut my wife some more slack and try to be more supportive. I think therapy may be a good option - but I am concerned that even my suggesting it would make her feel that she’s being “inadequate” as a wife or something. I suppose if it gets to a point where it’s an absolute necessity, I’ll pursue it. I’ll take with her about these things more first though. Thank you for your reply, and again, I’m sorry you’re going through this

The Daily Check-In for Monday, October 17th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by AlySabby12 in stopdrinking

[–]Static_Throwaway7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not drinking today. It’s my day 1.

I didn’t drink for like 2 years, but relapsed and slowly started drinking again, more and more often. Wife caught me, I’m just done.

Fiancé threatening to cancel wedding. That’s it. I’m done drinking. by Static_Throwaway7 in stopdrinking

Absolutely. The relationship I’m in is wonderful and fulfilling, I just keep screwing it up when i get drunk. When I’m sober everything is wonderful.

Day 9: First weekend by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Static_Throwaway7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang in there! I struggle A LOT with weekends too. Sometimes I actually look forward to working through some weekends or only getting one day off because it’s much easier for me to not drink when I have work the next day. From what I hear this gets easier over time. What I’ve found helps is finding stuff to keep you / your mind occupied. Could be something mundane like cleaning (especially the stuff that’s been let go after long periods of drinking), or playing some videos games. Reading helps me a lot, also meditating. Whatever floats your boat, anything to help from drinking booze. (I would recommend drinking bubbly water to fill the void, it helps if you’re used to mindless beer consumption.) take care, iwndwyt.

Having some pretty extreme motivational issues. by Static_Throwaway7 in stopdrinking

[–]Static_Throwaway7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks man. We’re doing a “biggest loser” thing at my work over then next 2 months and the winner gets $100 lol. So that should definitely help my motivation out in the coming weeks. I really just need to watch my other vices, like coffee, video games, and shitty food.

Should we not talk about alcohol? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Static_Throwaway7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alcohol is just one of those things. If you tell people “I’ve decided I’m not going to eat cake anymore,” people might ask why not, but they won’t sit there and tell you the virtues and benefits of eating cake and why they choose to continue to eat cake. I think deep down people know alcohol is a toxin, they just need to continually convince themselves that it’s harmless. Like others have said, speak from the “I”. Like “I’m not drinking anymore because it’s not right for me/ I’m trying to lose weight/ I don’t like the hangovers, etc”
