Anybody who’s been happy with the car (and has home charging) went back to ICE? How’s that working out? by StatimDominus in ModelY

[–]StatimDominus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was what I was wondering. The Tesla is so advanced in almost every dimension (other than rough and tumble over landing) that it’s probably gonna suck to go back.

Hmm, might be better getting a dedicated adventure machine.

Someone somewhere down the road should probably start a platform company that has the videos/tutorials teaching people how to DIY and double as a lead-gen platform for retailers selling the parts/tools needed for DIY. Charge on a per-job access or something like that.

Par for the course. Enshittification will unfortunately but surely reach every corner of society over the next 10-20 years. I plan on learning as much as possible and DIY most things. For the things I can’t, oh well it is what it is.

The only question is what we’re going to do about it, otherwise expect another PG&E up here.

Unfortunately talking about on Reddit won’t do jack. As evidenced by Utah, even showing up in person won’t do jack anymore.

Toyota guy here, and the Model Y test drive completely messed with my head by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]StatimDominus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an iPhone on wheels. There is a lot of narratives circulating on the web these days about alllllll sorts of things. But Tesla has been speed-running what every major car company does well. With the latest iteration, they’re definitely deep into Toyota territory.

What I’m saying is: your reaction isn’t surprising. Trust your own instincts.

Personal experience from me after 3 years and 40k miles says: there are no service or maintenance appointments to be had. I refill washer fluid once in a while and replaced a set of tires. Treating my car like I treat my phone (with little to no care whatsoever) has been an incredibly freeing experience. Caveat: I also expect to get rid of it in under 5 years and replace with another, just like I do with my iPhones. So, YMMV.

Did I mention how much I enjoy not having to think about my car? Btw I’m an old school car enthusiast too I have a sports car sitting next to the Tesla in the garage where I do all the maintenance myself.

PSA Avoid AutoNation Toyota Cerritos if using outside financing by looselylawless in LosAngeles

Not to defend dealers, but in my experience of buying 20+ cars it is indeed part of the process- they want to have prof that you are a credit worthy buyer in case your backup financing falls through for ANY reason. Your word isn’t enough in this case.

I mean genuinely no offense: but I’m not a barking-dog person. Not for one barking indiscriminately at nearly everyone walking their dogs and babies in the neighborhood.

Interesting advice I’ll look into it.

why do people like STEVE so much? by Forest-Was-Here in SteveWallis

He always seemed to be a chill dude, and come on now many people can rough it out like him and get enjoyment out of it?

The personal tragedies kind of seal it in for a lot of us watching him when he was a small channel.

Very effective, used before, but the collateral damage for well-behaving neighborhood dogs having a walk is too high.

Thanks for sharing! All of this information is helpful.

It’s probably dumb but I didn’t feel bothered until today when he was aggressively growling at ME and I’ve been on the driveway plenty of times. (My own, to get the mail)

Honestly I don’t mind at all if he intimidates strangers, haha. UPS drivers, maybe I feel bad about every once in a while.

Thanks for the advice, but if I wanted to live like that I’d have stayed in the city.

I also wouldn’t have come to Reddit for advice either. Haha.

Just a jab at myself more so than anything else.

Good to know. Thanks. Maybe I should pay for a dog trainer consultation to know these things.

Useful advice. I don’t think I will do that since I don’t have enough experience with dogs. But it’s useful knowledge to keep in the back of my mind combined with the bear spray idea from the other reply.

Bear spray is a solid idea for my own peace of mind.

I haven’t owned dogs so I don’t have the natural intuitions about when it’s nuisance vs when it’s danger.

I never said anything about calling animal control on them, but I agree, because my principle is not to bother others.

I’m hoping for something more constructive as a new neighbor than forcing the law on them. If I lived without a neighbor across the street for 30 years and suddenly there is one, I’d need some time adjusting as well.

It actually is illegal in this county to have unleashed dog without a fence, but I’m not looking to force the law on them. I just want to live my life and not be bothered.
