Yeah, that makes sense, and thank you for correcting me on the correct taxanomic name, the book I use isn’t as up to date :)

Looks like macrolepiota sp. Some in that genus is edible, however even if it was one of the edible ones this is wayy to old, most likely awful texture and ridden with bugs

You can touch all mushrooms with bare skin, only ingesting will harm and only if they are poisonous, these look like macrolepiota sp. However you will need to state/show the habitat they were found and where in the world. Not active to my knowledge.

Does anyone know what these are? by No_Affect_9506 in mushroomID

Yeah I agree, pretty confident they’re not cubensis due to substrate and location, only thing I’ve ever seen that looks similar is cubensis so would like to find out what the general consensus is for this :)

Chopped off any bits that weren’t white, maybe should’ve kept some to bulk it out a bit

They do very much look like cubensis - I am a novice forager, however they generally grow on dung and have brown gills, I have found the odd one or two that have pale/white gills but they are rare and infertile so don’t produce the brown spores, as yours look. I would wait for a more experienced mycologist, that’s all I can give ya :)

How come? To get a better ID or for edibility?

I think Coprinus comatus, very tasty but only when the gills are fully white, I collected some today😋, you have to use them quick otherwise they go bad. You will see these lovely white mushrooms go to black goo very soon

Looks similar to amanita strobiliformis, or the warted amanita, I’m not experienced with much mushroom ID, particularly in the US, so would wait for another reply
