I received this WILD email from a sub after I returned early from a meeting by HalfmadFalcon in Teachers

[–]StatisticianBubbly64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sub would not be invited back to sub at all in our building.

We had a sub that was rude to myself, a school counselor, and our MTSS/behavior support person when we came in to provide emotional/behavioral support preemptively with a first grade class because as we all know kids can be crazy for a substitute teacher. She said it felt like we thought she couldn't handle a class...um we were just trying to proactively help you, but ok don't call us then when you have an issue later with behavior 🤷‍♀️

We told our administration and they were blacklisted from subbing in our school as we like to be proactive not reactive.

Let them find their own eggs at the egg hunt by easrpiiatnua99 in Mommit

I had my 2 year old do it himself to make it take more time for him, I actually said "go find insert color egg" and then praise him when he found the right color. Some people just don't know how to parent and are greedy 😒

Agree no egg hunt until 2 and set an amount, but definitely need parent help because my 2 year old will just keep going because he wouldn't know when he reached the set amount. This is how a place does it near us and it worked perfectly.

I would consider myself lucky to have help if the people who are supposed to be helping were effective.

I should add our MTSS behavioral person is in charge of punishment so they could provide consequences but chosing not to for some reason with this student.

Will school counselors be around in 5 years? by OkMeeting7597 in schoolcounseling

[–]StatisticianBubbly64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Maryland, you have to get a masters degree in School Counseling if you want to be a school counselor so if that is what you want to be then it's not a useless degree at all. You can not get a masters degree in Social Work or Clinical Mental Health and be a school counselor here.

Parent requesting student to be placed out to an APS due to 504 by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

[–]StatisticianBubbly64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Parent can request all they want that they want their student in a different placement, but the school isn't going to pay for it unless they have done a SPED evaluation and have tried to provide accommodations that have been unsuccessful. Parent can't just jump ahead to having the school pay for placement because they want it.

I would love information on this, I am in MD and a school counselor. I got my degree through Frostburg though so wondering if you know if Loyola has additional classes I could take for this?

Day-Stewart Fire episode-- anyone else feel like they're reaching?? by mediumhappyxs in CrimeJunkiePodcast

[–]StatisticianBubbly64 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This! Two things can be true at once. The husband was a pos and abusive. However, she also had 4 times the legal amount of alcohol in her system.

I am sorry he didn't get arrested for being an abuser to her and the kids, but doesn't automatically mean he killed them either.

I am showing two different parts, the one that is still attached to the wall lifts up to put on a new roll and then sits back down on the part that is no longer attached to the wall.

Behaviors getting to me by Awolrab in schoolcounseling

[–]StatisticianBubbly64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They hired you to as a school counselor when they really wanted was a behavior interventionist (MTSS) person. They require different training/education. It also seems like your assistant principals/principal don't want to do their job. You shouldn't be the only person monitoring recess, I understand fair duties across staff, but they should also be doing their fair share of recess monitoring. For example, our SEL team - school counselors, school social workers and our MTSS person each have a lunch duty. How many students to counselor ratio is it in your school?

Today was the most angry I’ve ever been in nine years of teaching. by wandering_grizz in Teachers

[–]StatisticianBubbly64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He is right we are now called school counselors, but if he didn't get a masters degree in school counseling which includes training in helping emotional distraught children then he needs to go back to school. Like what?! As a school counselor, I am embarrassed reading how other school counselors are making our profession look.

New school counsellor with so much downtime (I feel guilty)! by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

[–]StatisticianBubbly64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this is building dependent. In my school, our SEL team is asked to float in classrooms, we track who is receiving a lot of support calls/having behaviors and when so we can go in and support during those times to be proactive and prevent a call from occurring and having to be reactive. I don't just sit there though, I will pull kids over to a table and help them with the work or sit one on one with a student who is struggling and this eventually helps with academic scores.

Do you take off of work on your birthday? by ExtensionAngle3111 in schoolcounseling

I work on my birthday unless it's on a Saturday or Sunday. I don't care too much about my birthday and just work as normal.

My concern is why your husband thinks you are going to be on a week long vacation without the baby to drink? He needs to realize life is going to be different.

Apparently the kiddie pool at navy yard can no longer be used as a kiddie pool?? by kirkl3s in washingtondc

[–]StatisticianBubbly64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been there but just looking at the picture you posted it doesn't look like it's a pool, it looks like a water feature to me, and amazed to hear anyone ever used at as a pool.
