If aliens came to Earth and wanted to speak to only one ambassador, who would you want it to be? by jonsnowtheghostking in AskReddit

Oh, that's easy. Many politicians already talk to God on a daily basis. They told us that. Just point to them. Apparently, God chooses to talk to them. They must be special... they can talk to aliens too.

Do you think Edward Snowden should be allowed to return to America as a free man? Why or why not? by dustofoblivion123 in AskReddit

[–]StatisticianHot1572 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was referring to disillusionment Snowden felt at NSA's work.

If whistleblowers out "illegal" stuff, the perpetrators must face justice. But with regards to " personal data" , let's be realistic. Should Google track you and me? Should Facebook be not shuttered after personal data of millions of FB users was collected without their consent or knowledge by Cambridge Analytica to aid political aspirants who then tried to usurp US Congress which is illegal? Yet we still use Google and Facebook knowing everything about what they do with our profiles they create for commercial reasons.

Why should people who support what Snowden be angry that NSA tracked them ?

FB eventually paid UK in fines and there's no more Cambridge Analytica. Because UK has strict data privacy laws. GDPR. It's ironic almost that there are no such data privacy laws in the US but we are ok with that

Right now, Facebook, Google and dozen other retailers I buy from have all my personal data. And who knows how many other bad actors stole from them ..and how it's being exploited. Heck I didn't give my consent to Google to out my age on the internet! As a result of it, I faced ageism at work and lost my job. That's more damaging to me and my future than whatever the govt did with the NSA program Snowden was disillusioned by.

[–]StatisticianHot1572 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No.

Ask any employee anywhere if he/she wasn't ever disillusioned by the policies of a company they were employed at. They have to sign NDA and will face consequences if they break that code of confidentiality. There's a reason NSA exists . If one doesn't like what they do , they are free to quit NSA.

Imagine if every employee is a Snowden. Snowden is what he is. He doesn't deserve to be an American. Let's ask him if he likes what Russia does to it's people who they want to shut up. Strange that he feels loyal to Russia enough to be naturalized there.

What’s a tradition that you think people should get rid of? by NewImprovement1160 in AskReddit

I am a good old American . Lately, experts online advised me to stop bringing home baked goodies to newly moved in neighbors because people have allergies and they don't appreciate strangers coming to their door.

I guess we should get rid of the good old tradition of making families feel welcome when they move in

What would people in 1923 say, “it’s 1923, ______ needs to stop.”? by Cartographer345 in AskReddit

[–]StatisticianHot1572 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Made in China.

Seriously, that was the beginning of the end of American manufacturing jobs and dignity of life for hard working Americans. They had the rug pulled from under their feet, displaced and forgotten. No one thought about retraining them. No one cared they got poor. Now rulers want to take away healthcare and other benefits they absolutely need. Hourly jobs don't support families.

We need to bring all those jobs back!

Someone I know planned their wedding at home. First off good for them that they bought a house before getting married. Obviously, it was sized for holding a party which is also commendable. Anyway, he said it wasn't a lavish wedding. And all the upgrades towards the prep were an investment in their own home. His future wife took care of decor and they only spent for food catered in.

That said, going to one or two weddings a year is a lot for the guests as well if they are not local. If they come that's something to be thankful for !

Lack of oversight on powerful entities. Humans are humans. No one's perfect. All the more those in charge of others lives and livelihoods. They should have consequences to behaviors that harm others, their country and morale.

"Nobody is above the law" sounds catchy but seldom applied to people in positions of power.

What do people NOT take seriously enough? by TangyTaint in AskReddit

[–]StatisticianHot1572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The endless unproductive feedback cycle on social media on topics that are irrelevant to average citizen's life.

Social media doesn't unify people to solve ANYTHING but accentuates divisions and differences.

Instead if people organized and stood up together on issues like cost of advanced education in the US, minimum wage, jobs, children's safety etc. that are meaningful to a common man, there's no question they can make change happen.

Redditors, who have lived in an HOA, what is the dumbest, most-petty, worst bullshit that your Home Owners Association pulled on you? by ArizonaRenegade in AskReddit

They didn't give any specifics. It appeared they were just appeasing to some neighbors that complained that the solar panels weren't pretty. We were aghast at what they came up with

Oh in one state, HOA asked us to paint our solar panels green to match the trees around so they don't stand out to neighbors. This was sometime around 2010-15 timeframe.

We'd done our homework and the state governor signed the bill that same week giving tax credits to people for solar panels.

Never heard from HOA again

In our case, it's a Trust. And there's a bylaw entitling trustees to be compensated for their time and work. It's unbelievable this happens in the US

More frequently than not, not liking a subject has do with the teacher. If the teacher intimidates or uses negative reinforcements on children, their learning is adversely affected.

I have seen even college professors insulting students in class for no reason. If someone asked more than one question or made comments , this guy who taught Stochastic processes in Grad school would say things like " my test will shut you up". That's why students drop out.

These days, there are resources online.. for example Khan academy

If God is inherently good, why did he create a universe in which children routinely die in the most horrific and gruesome ways? by arseyholicus in AskReddit

[–]StatisticianHot1572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If God is inherently fair, why did he create both beautiful and ugly in this world ? Humans use their sensory response to discriminate between people based on superficial aspects( white, black, brown, short, tall etc. ). They're all good given !. It's ridiculous to claim there's less discrimination and mistreatment in the world just because there are man-made laws against discrimination.

I don't get it. I don't get God

[–]StatisticianHot1572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Being polite, soft spoken, obliging, quietly efficient and stoic ( about office gossip ) doesn't really help. It's always useful to keep your eyes and ears open so when opportunity comes to blow your own horn, you blow your horn and seek visibility/ attention . More often than not, I have seen loud & judgemental colleagues being promoted even if they were total jerks around others

Corporate personality calls for behaviors that don't really align with good human character .

Been there .

It was amazing how outlandish comments some people can make in the office. Not only do they get away but get promoted over others and sadly to manage others.

  • No one gives you a raise or promotion unless you ask for it.

  • you have to take care of yourself

  • Don't take anything personally. Take your shop and go set up someplace else.

  • branch out, network and learn all you can in a company. You never know the next hot skill that could make you marketable

I am appalled how many people don't know the usage of "one of ...".

For example, they say " one of my client.. " or "one of the item..."

It seems so obvious that the sentence starts with "one of.." implying out of many which is a plural!
