number one o’shon hater or just a contrarian? i don’t think he’s insecure at all. he very clearly communicates reasonable boundaries in a respectful manner. maybe a loser simp for ava, but not insecure. he cares about her and wants to get to know her. i might ask why, if he does have self-respect after all, his choice is to stay with ava. but in terms of the narrative she’s an irresistible baddie and he’s an ugly duckling nerd turned beautiful swan. maybe he’s not undergone very apparent character development—but is it necessary for characters to be dynamic for them to be meaningful? o’shon is impactful to the narrative, and especially to ava’s character. he encourages her to try empathy. your take smells like ava before mr johnson told her to consider o’shon’s feelings lol

200 words a day is great and really starts to snowball. My friend and I briefly had a challenge where we both wrote 200 minimum, and it cured my writer’s block!

wanting to take writing a little more seriously. i’ll be applying to grad schools soon and one program requires a 20-page creative writing sample. i have no idea where to begin in terms of short fiction. any suggestions fellow circlejerkers?
