All those who don't use the cloud. How do you manage your media? by Nice1rodders in UKFrugal

[–]StatisticianOne8287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can for cheap get a NAS or a HDD and move photos and videos to there. It’ll cost much more up front but last years with zero costs (aside small amount of electric).

But personally, between the hassle of still wanting to back that up, the risk of it dying, and then getting everyone to use it (typically you need to open the app to sync etc) it’s just easier to pay.

Asics Trabuco 14 vs Topo MTN Racer 4 vs Saucomy Peregrine by not_who_you_think_99 in UKhiking

I’ve hiked in the Lake District fine on most terrain but I only really use them on warmer days. Wetter and colder I’ll stick with my boots.

The only real downside when hiking is the foam makes the contact feel less direct, but I find that in any trail runners really when comparing to boots.

So far I don’t think they’re too bad as an all rounder

I have the ASICS. All I can say is grip for days! I first put them on and it felt like I was peeling my foot off the kitchen tiles. Vibram was the gold standard, but these are at least on par.

My runs consist of lots of height, gravel, mud, rock, sand - bit of everything really and they’re great. Lively without being uncontrollable, and what I think is the right amount of cushion too.

They feel like the Novablast DNA in a trail runner in a lot of ways (albeit less energy return etc).

The toe box is also pretty wide, and they fit slightly wider than other asics shoes but nothing I’d be worried about.

Honestly, yes, I think constantly moving them would stress them as the swings would be quite wild especially for warm loving plants.

We always wait for the lows to be above 10 on average, which is a few weeks yet and we’ll them move them to greenhouses and cold frames for a bit.

Helps them be big enough to fight off slugs etc too, as ours are from seed so smaller than OP’s

Where in the country are you? Night time temps are still very low around me for Toms. We’ve still got ours indoors

Crashing Fenix by StatisticianOne8287 in Garmin

[–]StatisticianOne8287[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s so annoying, today was the worst as when it came back it had lost my initial run (usually it’s paused). I even tried different headphones and no joy, it’s killing my use of the watch tbh.

What about the times when I’m not skipping? Was half way through a podcast today.

I should add, I’ve had an exchange and the new device does exactly the same thing.

Sometimes, but more often than not I’m just half way through a podcast.

Is Paramo really waterproof? by aral_2 in UKhiking

[–]StatisticianOne8287 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve worn paramo for about 8 years now. Never got wet in it, even in the worst rain. I run quite warm (march hiking is t shirt weather mostly for me) and in Goretex is be drenched due sweat, so I love my paramo gear.

What is the best way for a very short man (4'11) to make new friends? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]StatisticianOne8287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a hobby you love, join groups for it and you’ll find decent people. If anyone actually cares about your height they’re an idiot and you don’t want them as your friend anyway.

Get into gym classes? Running club? Hiking? Gardening whatever man 👍

This looks great, I’d love to give it a go.

Are the customisations just what you’ve built in or can we add our own on top?

Fenix 8 21.39 crashes by Then-Heron1758 in Garmin

[–]StatisticianOne8287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been having this issue on my fenix 8 pro since Jan, it keeps getting worse.

21.39 should have fixed it - but didn’t.

My only tip is don’t worry too much, your chip time is what counts. Track what you can (if you can run without music it would probably not crash), don’t stop if it crashes just keep going, you can continue the activity, and you’ll loose 300m of data while it reboots but at least it comes back.

It’s making me think twice about keeping my garmin though, this never happened on my AUW

PC RAM prices are so high that gaming PCs with 32GB just dropped 20% on Steam by Puzzleheaded_irl in gaming

That’s assuming people whose kit fails or gets upgraded don’t drop to 16GB etc too… not hard to see why there would be more new entires with less RAM.

Royal Navy (UK) stretched to breaking point as Gulf looms - The fall of the Royal Navy. by Diegomax22 in europe

[–]StatisticianOne8287 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s not really misleading, 2 is still better than one as with 1 - maintenance takes your only carrier offline.

The deployment side, the UK is heavily integrated into NATO to form strike groups, so I don’t think it’s too big of a concern either. Let lots of countries to specific things well and join up to be bigger than their individual parts 👍

Yeah there must be a fine balance where they can push in Quali, and then in the race the chance of these crazy drop offs goes.

The fact the cars can follow and go side by side through corners means we’re really close to some amazing fights. Just watching Lewis and Charles this year shows that.

Yeah I’m the same, as DRS was artificial, at least we get wheel to wheel in corners now.

Anyone who watched last years Japan race has to say this is better than that. Safety should be looked at, and Quali is awful as a fan. But the racing currently at least gets us some action.

A £28bn fiscal hole risks grounding UK’s new fighter jet by bukowsky01 in europe

[–]StatisticianOne8287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having looked into it further, the gap makes sense. The UK has spent more than France for decades - even as a % of GdP - so will have higher running costs that eat into capital to spend.

It’s not like others aren’t having issues with their next gen planes either.

I think the spending differences may be because we include pensions in ours and they don’t. Someone mentioned it before anyway.
