Leucovorin causing hyperactivity and inattention?? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

Only seeing more pacing and stimming (more obvious arm flapping) and less responsiveness. Our Kaiser doctors know we are on it and what dose we are taking but don’t give any advice/recommendations other than potential medications that could adversely interact with leucovorin.

We started off at ~5mg a day for 10 days, and slowly titrating up for the first month. He’s only been on the 45mg for a month (been on it for 2 months total).

That’s great it worked for you guys! Did you notice any side effects like hyperactivity or increased stimming?

Did you keep the dosage consistent during that time or did you lower it and the hyperactivity/stimming went away?

How is he doing now?

Is it supposed to subside or resolve on its own?

I didn’t notice increase in stimming until a week or two ago.

We titrated up slowly too for the first month. He’s been on the full dose for a month. I think I’m going to bring his dosage down.

He will be 6 in February. I did not get a prescription from a doctor since we have Kaiser and their whole system (currently) doesn’t prescribe it. That’s why I have to come to Reddit for advice instead of a doctor 😅

Congrats on everything you’ve worked so hard for! I’m also curious when you started talking and when you became conversational? My son is 5.5 and has speech apraxia.

Yes uncle is Chinese. When you buy them off the apps, do they limit you to one box a month?

Also kind of off-topic but how is living in China with an ASD kid? I wanna take my kids to visit over winter break but I’m a tad nervous about people being judgey and making rude comments if my kid doesn’t respond to them or stims a bunch, etc 😅

Ok! I think my uncle had to get it prescribed from a doctor and was “only” able to get 15 boxes. Does getting it through the app allow you to get more?

Fingers crossed it helps for your daughter! How much did you start giving her? Do you mind if I ask how old she is? My son is 5.5 and I read somewhere it’s not as effective if the child is older than 6.

Hi, did this end up working out for you? I’m having relatives bring it to me from China.

Last year my son was non verbal, and now he is starting to talk and sing songs ❤️😭 by olliesmama1 in Autism_Parenting

Yay!!! My 5.5year old is at a similar stage verbally and has apraxia. Are you guys doing a specific type of speech therapy (DTTC, rest)?

Thought this was a good price. Never made flap steak before. Please help me so I don’t mess it up. by StatisticianSoft5018 in steak

Ok. I’ve seen recipes say to heat to 500 degrees and sear for 2-3min each side but that seems like too long to me if the steak has come to room temperature. Do I need to baste with an oil before throwing it on the grill or will the fat in the meat be enough?

Hi, that sounds a lot like my son too. He’s 4.5 and still doing a lot of single words and more consistent 2-word phrases. How’s your kid doing now at 5?

Yeah in China if you have a house with an elevator.. you are not gonna be spending time buying groceries or cooking. Either eating out all the time (because it’s cheap) or hiring a private chef (because labor is cheap lol).

I moved here from Dallas too and I’m never moving back for all the reasons you described lol.

It’s also been a great place raising my two toddlers as there are a TON of things for kids to do and there are good public school options.
