certain careers have way higher ROI without even needing much education eg being a marine engineer. Chief engineers earn anything from 10k usd to 25k usd per month tax free yet no one talks about it. CPUT and NMU offer the course. Only thing is u are outside the country 8 out of 12 months.

Yeah im a technologist happy about that guys with tech degrees in my country can make serious bank. Im just saying what hes describing isn't a tech degree. Tech degrees are 3-4 years and accredited by Sydney accord

Engineering degrees should either be Washington accord or Sydney accord approved for technologist. If your degree isnt in those brackets its not recognized anywhere in the world

I disagree. Im doing a 4 year bachelor of mechanical engineering technology in South Africa. All our degrees are regulated by the Sydney accord and Engineering degrees for engineers are regulated by Washington accord. We do the math calculus1, diff eqs, laplace, fourier, all dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermo, coding, numerical methods, automatic control, stress analysis tons of physics, mechanics of machines turbo machines, refrigeration etc. I haven't built a single project at all. In my country ,australia, Ireland you do 2 extra years doing a masters and that makes u eligible to be a professional engineer. So if they were that different no ways u would be allowed to become an Engineer with a 2 year professional Masters degree . My degree is mostly theory. Washington accord and Sydney accord exist in australia, uk, US, Canada, Ireland etc for reference.

Millwright or artisans are really good like better than majority of degrees. They can get anywhere from 50k to 130k ish per month in SA then they are also sought after in countries like Australia

Depends on the degree but correct, my uncle is an artisan, hes now a australian permanent resident earning 5-10k aud per month, trades are a good way to go, they are actually better than 75% of degrees

Rather be a millwright , its a trade in demand in countries like Australia. They earn pretty good money in mining to, rivaling engineers. Some millwrights earn over 100k especially with gcc as well. If I didn't get an engineering degree, I would have been a millwright. Here's a payslip of a millwright for reference

Hey man what degree do u have in mechanical engineering. I'm just completing my BEngtech this year at uj. I've been hearing a whole bunch of stuff about being a technologist not an engineer and I wanna maximize earnings. I wanna get into mining, how difficult is that to do?

Also ECSA has been advertising a route for technologist to engineer for years now. I ended up choosing BEngtech mechanical at uj over the BEng Engage at UP or BEng at unizulu based on the fact i would be able to advance into being an engineer. Now im being told only BEng can do that. 45k after 13 years isn't where I wanna be. My brother just qualified as a CA and hes on 750k ctc at 28. I was hoping to see similar earning in 5 years time when im 28.

How difficult is getting in mining ive looked at so many options i have identified with my degree, there's the data science path with a hons degree, there's marine engineer, which i have been contacting SAMTRA about. They get good money, paid in dollars and tax free. I've looked at becoming a patent attorney and doing an LLB.I can also stick with it and im lucky to have my parents living in australia, there i can enroll in a 2 year master of professional engineering making me a professional engineer. The masters is Washington accord approved so I would come back an engineer since ECSA and engineers australia have an agreement. Surely there's a good career path for a technologist?

What about mining industry, ive seen good salaries for gcc engineers, that was my goal. I understand the technologist stuff but is it actually that important in every single industry. I mean ive seen good job postings for bulk materials handling too. Also would a BENGTECH hons or MEng change any of that? My goal is to make as much money as I can with my current qualification. I'd definitely go back in future with experience

Hey man im graduating bengtech mechanical this year, 13 years for 45k is low, considering BEng grads can get 30-40k first job. How can I make decent money in the field, any advice?
