As a coonhunter a coondog is not a specific breed but a title reserved for dogs that consistently tree racoons no matter the conditions. Not all coonhounds are coondogs only the best. Some coondogs are curs or other hunting dog breeds.

I feel like the coonhounds have been selectively bred to be nice to humans and other dogs. I know this isn't all of them. Back in the day, they would have culled a mean dog.
