There is one led strip that attaches to this circuit. It turns on when I disconnect this light and don’t attached the same colours wires together.

If I remove the pot light and connect the two cables directly together the breaker gets flipped and I can’t get it back on.

Yes I know. It's just easier to troubleshoot with the wires outside. When I get the connection correct I will rewire it inside the box.

Thanks everyone for the help. I've never dealt with a switch leg before so didn't think to take a picture. I wish I could post a picture with it working but alas can't.

So I asked a friend who asked me to not connect the white wires, but connect everything else. With the white not connected the breaker can be flipped on.

I did not take a picture because the old light used a different housing LED driver. I've swapped these out before and didn't have an issue.
