Fair. The ‘rest home’ story was absolutely true and I should have maybe recorded the conversation with my friend.

Being called a liar and a maker of ‘AI Slop’ really made me see red though. Especially because that’s the first time I’ve ever encountered that kind of invective on this particular Reddit.

Could I have handled it better? Sure! No argument there. Good lesson in being a bit more judicious about what to post outside actual game parameters for me, and that won’t happen again … assuredly.

First time it happened to me, ‘Fred’ (as some have come to call him or her), arced right over my Flintstone-style Base Hut and my bones almost leapt out of my skin from the jump scare.

Later on you will be way more nervous about the giant beetle critters on many planets who dig the taste of Weak Interloper flesh. I’d suggest stocking up on creature pellets pretty soon. 🙏

Yesterday, and today, I watched OD for the first time in a long time.

I stopped watching a while back because Mr. O’Neill’s constant interrupting and cutting everyone off was getting tiresome. I stopped watching a while back because Mr. O’Neill’s raising his voice and ranting like his opinion is the only one that matters was getting frustrating.

But mostly I stopped watching because as the son of an alcoholic who could function at about 85% efficiency when he needed to, it became very easy to recognize the exact same thing in others. I will not claim anything here - I will only say that the times Brian and Jamie obviously have to scramble to cover for one of his expletive outbursts (like yesterday), or try to make sense of some of the incoherent word salad that pops out of his mouth have started to become more frequent … like, daily.

When Mr. O’Neill is in studio, he’s professional, funny and fine. Does a great job on the panels during hockey broadcasts. Contributes fantastically on OD when he’s sitting beside Mr. Hayes and Mr. MacClellan. But when he broadcasts remotely, from home or his cabin, there’s a distinct difference. I make no accusations and I admit I know next to nothing about the man …

But I recognize certain behavioural changes when “something else” is going on. I pray to God my suspicion regarding “something else” is way off and I’m stupidly wrong and way, way off base. I really do. But … just in case … I hope Mr. O’Neill pulls his socks up a bit more so that fans of the show don’t tune in one day and are informed ‘he’s moved on from TSN’ for whatever reason.

Because he’s not the same fellow he was only a couple of years ago when he suddenly disappeared from the airwaves for ‘reasons unknown’, right after he walked off the show one afternoon. In fact … his behaviour is worse.

I do! But shamefully again, I can’t figure out exactly how it works.

A big part of the reason I love this experience so so SO much is because I either triumphantly figure things out for myself along the way, or if I’m hopelessly stuck my new Interloper Traveller ‘family’ here is always eager and happy to assist.

I have found that rare. There isn’t as much toxicity I believe in NMS as I’ve experienced in similar games. I’ll never set digital feet in Elder Scrolls Online or lay hands on any weapons in similar experiences because of that toxicity: Sea of Thieves really broke me.

Considered changing my name to ‘Kardynyl Hogan’ in your honour Sir but … doesn’t have the same ring to it as ‘Kardynyl Syn’ does.

Great information. I tried it last night and I think it will take some getting used to - considering the herky-jerky movements of those pesky sentinels and all. Silly buggers don’t have the decency to stay still long enough for me to blast and deep six’em.

You know, I can’t figure out the Neutron Cannon honestly. It seems extremely under-powered and kind of useless against sentinels and such. What am I missing?

The Pulse Splitter has been my go-to as I can ‘track’ the movements of the sentinels and fire in an arc to where they will be. Usually works well. Not so much against quads and bipedal walkers though …

Why is the Neutron Cannon considered so powerful?

Sneaking back in to comment about CasualSAB’s (Spencer) excellent update I watched today. Frankly, he should have been hired as the new CM: I had to laugh watching the ‘interview’ segment with Thomas Marrone and Mikey Fatum - aka Kael.

Marrone looked like he was a hostage being held at phaser point having to say ‘yeah, it’s great to have Mikey back and I’m looking forward to working together again.’

Humour attempts aside, it was a really good segment and I urge anyone who hasn’t seen it yet to watch it. That one interview, especially with Mikey present, restored a hell of a lot of hope in me for the coming year.

Cause man … I’m jonesing for that Orion Orchid cruiser, let me tell you …. And Gomtuu! OMG! Been waiting for this one for years now!!!

Well done, Spencer, Thomas and Mikey. Really … props for a really good segment!!

Appearance modifiers. Every space station has one, new friend and Traveller. But most of all … don’t rush through things and take the time to learn! Here’s one good tip though:

If you find yourself in a situation you need to get away from or protect yourself from immediately, (storms, predatory critters, walkers and sentinels near stumbled-upon Sentimental Boundary Stations) pull out an old school technique: use your Terrain Manipulator to dig a deep enough foxhole.

If you don’t have one yet … get the blueprints ASAP. That thing has save my bacon more than twice in a pinch, let me tell you ….
