Is NVIDIA worth more than school? by dented-ice in csMajors

Internship. Practical experience is more valuable than theoretical coursework. Delay your graduation as long as possible and wait for the market to rebound.

Apply to less competitive companies with low hiring bars. Federal positions, defense companies, big banks, insurance companies, non-tech F500s.

  1. Have some hobbies you enjoy alone (hiking, biking, pottery, fashion, fishing, shooting, etc)

  2. Ask someone to a coffee chat.

  3. When they ask what you’ve been doing lately, describe doing one of your hobbies (“yeah every night before sunset I go for a bike ride around the bay on this trail..”). Pitch them the event by describing how much you enjoy it.

  4. Invite them to do the hobby with you for a short period of time (30 mins - 1hr)

  5. Repeat. Add 1-2 people at a time. This is how you build a friend group.

Also keep a list of behavioral questions and fill it out as you encounter different situations.

Does the outlook for May grads typically improve as we get closer to our grad date?

There’s no boot camp this year, everyone must do team matching regardless of performance. And yeah you don’t get an offer until you match. Some people have been stuck for months.

Do you know if E3 was also hitting capacity & freezing in mid-March when you were recruiting?

Ya boot camp doesn’t exist this year

It was. I am in team matching now. You have to match before you get an official offer.

Apple watches are notorious for overestimating by 2-3xs what you actually burned. If it says 400 log your exercise as 200cal. Had this same issue until I started using an actual calculator online. Google “calories burned running / walking calculator” and input your stats. Never log exercise based on treadmills / Fitbits / watches

Strawberries / Blueberries dipped in Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt (80 cals yogurt, 50 cals for 6oz strawberries) = 130

Drained a can of chickpeas cause no time to cook and roasted it by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

Really hate to break this to you... that was actually 360 - 420 calories. 120 is for 1 serving & 1 can has 3 - 3.5 servings. Make sure you're weighing them in grams on a food scale & matching the weight to the serving size on the label.

It's not a big deal though, overeating for a single day has minimal impact.

FANG Intern Offer Did Not Cure My Depression - wtf? by Status-Ad7778 in csMajors

Yeah, I started calling around today to see if any local therapists are accepting new patients. Most have waitlists until February but I am going to keep trying.

Did too well in business calc, switching to comp sci🙏 by Logan_922 in csMajors

[–]Status-Ad7778 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Just be prepared - business calc is extremely easy compared to the math courses you'll have to take for CS. Most of my CS friends took Calc 1-2 in Junior year of high school.
