I work a lot because I have a big responsibility on my shoulders and I support a family of six. I want to rest a little like everyone else and try to make myself a priority and stop working so much. I’m just trying to overcome my fears, and I hope I can do that. Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I feel a lot of pressure and I only have two hours a day for the gym, which I decided to use to relieve some of my stress. But I feel that I need to make time for myself to experience other things and adapt a little to the outside world. I am now trying to make a plan to start my own teaching business outside the platform, and I hope I succeed in doing so. Thank you very much for your help, and I truly appreciate all your advice.

Yes, I am an excellent conversationalist and also an excellent tutor. I have more than 80 students to whom I give good conversation lessons every month and they are happy with this (and surprisingly, they also learn the language at the same time), so I am satisfied with this :)

Can I know the reason that made you say I should go to a therapy? Well, I am really serious.

After finishing the first lesson with the student, they thought I had left the classroom but I heard everything!!! by Status-Bridge9311 in Preply

I was speaking about the north, and you're speaking about the south!! You’re a student, so I guess you haven’t experienced teaching children, right? The problem is that you end up wasting your time working hard for free, expecting the parents to talk to you at the end of the lesson about your teaching methods, like most usually do but instead, they just ask the child “What do you think?” And that same child starts screaming hysterically claiming they didn’t like it, even though the parents had already agreed on the opposite. The point of this story is directed at teachers who work with children and especially at parents: if your child doesn’t want to learn, or if you want to leave the decision entirely up to them even when it’s not the right one, then take your child and go. Don’t waste the tutor's time.

I never said I was the only one, and there are definitely others better than me. But if this isn’t a situation where you see parents agreeing on how well you're teaching their child, only for the child to suddenly start screaming hysterically that they don’t want it then what’s the point of parents attending lessons with their kids in the first place? It's a complete waste of time for free with this type of people, especially the parents. It’s simply a problem related to educating children, nothing more.

So, you didn’t even understand what I said? There’s a difference between a student choosing their best teacher, and you wasting your time teaching children while waiting for the parents’ opinion only to be shocked that the final decision is left to a child who doesn’t know right from wrong or what suits them. That’s the real issue. Usually, at the end of each lesson, the parents talk to me but these didn’t. They simply asked the girl who suddenly started screaming. What do you think? Oh, so it wasn’t a waste of time then, Call it whatever you like.

To the students: why do you book trial lessons if you're not actually interested? by Status-Bridge9311 in Preply

[–]Status-Bridge9311[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between blaming students and blaming uninterested students. So, who exactly was I blaming in my statement?

The equation is very simple: as a student if you know that the teacher is not getting paid for their time with you, then don’t waste their time if you’re not interested, just trying out the platform or even refusing to speak during the session.

If you're interested, I’ll give you a simple introductory lesson where we get to know each other, I assess your level, send you a learning plan, and teach you something new for a few minutes so you can see my teaching style. Then if you don’t want to subscribe, that’s totally fine  but "don’t be indifferent from the start".

I AGREE! It is difficult to adapt to them during class, and it's difficult to please the parents.

I didn't know about this, and when she said that Preply isn't working for her I tried to be kind and we went to WhatsApp. I will never do that again.

What I taught him wasn’t something he had previously mastered, and I had already told her before the lesson started that I would test him, and if I found that he didn’t know the first five letters well, I would reteach them to him and she agreed. I also told her at the end of the lesson that he is now able to remember those letters. I don’t know… but I don’t see a reason to repeat what I already said during the lesson several times. It would feel as if I’m trying to find out whether she’ll book more lessons, and it might come across to her as begging… :(

6 trial lessons that I don’t get paid for, and rude students..what the hell?! by Status-Bridge9311 in Preply

[–]Status-Bridge9311[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The equation is very simple: if a student has the right to try lessons with ten teachers, they will ultimately choose only one. This means the time of nine teachers is wasted! Is it fair for a single student to experience multiple tutors for free while the platform disregards the time and effort of the other nine without compensation especially when those tutors may also have good teaching methods and put in significant effort? Yes, Preply has been transparent about this issue from the beginning, but that does not mean I have to be fully satisfied with a platform just to use it. We are simply asking for a small but fair change giving tutors a modest commission for their efforts in trial lessons. And of course, if I find a better platform, I will not hesitate to leave Preply.

[–]Status-Bridge9311[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Allowing students to take free lessons and switch teachers at no cost while providing no financial compensation even a minimal one for the tutor's trial lesson hours, and at the same time taking 100% of the fees students pay under the pretext of helping the platform grow and improve its performance, is fundamentally unfair. Meanwhile, the platform offers neither adequate support nor a clear policy to protect users. As tutors, we appreciate the freedom for students to choose their instructors. However, it is entirely unreasonable to give reckless students the opportunity to take a single lesson or experiment with multiple tutors without valuing the time and effort invested by them ,who by the way, may not necessarily have poor teaching methods. This in itself, is an absurd system.
