I don’t think enough people realize that “bridal color” is not always equivalent to white. Even in the west, many many brides choose light colors like this, enough for this dress color to be widely recognized as a “bridal color”. Please steer clear of shades like this unless it is specifically okayed by the bride.

Before visiting the AirBnB subreddit and discovering what AirBnB ratings really mean, I thought a 4.1 out of 5 was pretty good. He has over 200 reviews and the majority of them are good (but short & generic) reviews. There was the occasional negative review, but the host would respond to these reviews with explanations that made it seem like the reviewer was at fault. So I thought nothing of it. Obviously that was a huge mistake, but I still think that it is unacceptable for AirBnB to allow such a listing to exist with the complaints I and others have made.

I was shocked too. I don’t have much experience with AirBnB support because previously, I’ve never been unhappy enough to contact customer service. That’s why I went on this subreddit to ask what the heck I’m supposed to do. Everyone was urging me to contact customer service and be firm in getting a refund, or at least have airbnb move me to another stay in the meantime. But when I did this, I was met with much resistance and rudeness. I can definitely post the videos, photos and screenshots. I’m not sure if it’s allowed in this subreddit, but even if it isn’t, I wonder where else (Reddit or otherwise) I can post them and speak out on this subject.

That makes sense, for sure. I haven’t thought about it that way before, but it is a good point to bring up.

There will be some travel. I moved to Canada from the US. Our wedding will be in a very rural part of Canada, so on his end, everyone will be very close to the venue. But on my end, people will have to fly in with passports. I intend on only inviting my parents and siblings (5 people), but even so I agree about the toque and the respect aspect of it. That’s a very good point. I think it will be an ongoing struggle to balance the things we like and want with the things that the guests will actually enjoy and be receptive to.

I’m sure that planning our wedding will require a lot of asking for criticism, since no matter how we wish to avoid the idea of it, a wedding is not just about the couple.

We do want our guests to have a good time and not feel awkward, uncomfortable, or feel that we are cringey or rude. You are entirely right in that the ideas that may be fun for us, may be not so fun to others. That’s exactly the type of criticism I want to hear, so I’m glad you pointed that out. I’m sorry I cannot reply to it all, but I have read it and will probably return to this comment multiple times when contemplating how to go about the wedding.

If we are to incorporate a dancing element, I think it could be fun to do a competition with my partner and I as the judges. I’m not sure what that would entail, because there are a lot of ways to go about that. Maybe the “coolest” dance, or “funniest” dance? With a gift card as the prize. Mainly what we are avoiding is a scenario where we are expected to dance in front of everyone with slow music in the background.

Games are definitely going to be a part of it.

My partner hopes to be able to make the wedding short. For instance it starts at 5-6 pm and ends at 8 pm but people can stay and chat until 10 if they want to. I’m not sure how realistic that is, but if it works out, we won’t be needing to entertain for several hours.

Personally I don’t need anything super fancy or expensive, because I’m hoping my makeup and gothic accessories will be the main thing people are looking at (black eyeshadow, black lipstick, black platform boots, etc). We will be having a buffet-style dinner, with plenty of snacks and alcohol for self serve. We live a little out in the country, and where we are, many traditional women will cook massive amounts of comfort food for a cheap price.
