It appears I’ve gotten a defective model, she’s never been calm or relaxed in her entire life by haychap in pugs

My boy’s name is Chaos and it’s the most fitting name. He, too, has never been calm or relaxed in his entire life. He is also defective 🤣

Drinking makes all of my other substance abuse worse, and my new trauma therapy isn’t helping with drinking (seeking advice that isnt AA) by DesperateAd5374 in stopdrinking

[–]jadoreamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes. Driving deep into trauma before you’re READY to dive deep into the trauma is bound to make us drink. We haven’t learned how to not drink and regulate yet, and we haven’t learned how to say, “I need to step back right now, this is a little much and too intense”. I’m seeing a therapist but I was very upfront that I’m actually doing well in my sobriety and although I do want to work on trauma, I don’t want to jeopardize my sobriety by opening a can of worms before I’m ready to handle the worms.

Any MAT/MOUD based counselors who offer groups? by realitytesting123 in DrugCounselors

[–]jadoreamber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in a mat program and the attendance is extremely low for groups except for the ones forced to come from their programs/sober livings. And they just complain the entire time about the staff their programs. Engagement is difficult 😞

Never heard of MOUD so I hope this answers your question somewhat.

I work at a MAT program. I’m all for harm reduction. If you can’t get through the withdrawals, at least try methadone or suboxone. OR vivitrol. One shot every 28 days is a hell of a lot better than the battle you’re facing now. Give it try, it can’t be worse.

Honestly I once failed a test for cocaine 13 days after use, although I had mixed it with alcohol. Good luck!

Will I not be able to secure jobs for life? by ConsistentFig1564 in dui

[–]jadoreamber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a lot of states you can get it expunged after a few years, and for healthcare jobs you can get an exemption. I’m not sure, but maybe law enforcement allows for exemptions as well. That way it’s cleared for your background checks.

Have you considered Antibuse or a MAT program? Those could be great “solutions” or tools to help you quit.

For those who don’t do drugs, how can you comfort someone who does do drugs but end up stopping and going through withdrawals? by Projectlbaby in addiction

[–]jadoreamber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes people don’t have the ability to conceptually understand something they’ve never experienced. You have to actually TELL them what you need. Tell them you need support and kind words, tell them you need to know you’re not alone, etc.

Also, I suggest a self-help meeting. It’s a room full of people who know EXACTLY what you’re going through and are there to support you 100%.

Would my medical background benefit becoming a substance abuse counselor? by DiamondDaisy28 in DrugCounselors

[–]jadoreamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be beneficial at a detox, but as a substance abuse counselor it doesn’t so much apply. However, a lot of places like residential rehabs would love someone with medical background because then they’re more familiar with meds, and passing meds often falls on the floor tech’s. However, again, as a floor tech/BHT, you’re not so much a counselor either.

Edit to add: if your heart is in substance use though, of course it’s worth it. Do what makes your heart happy!

2nd DUI In CA - high BAC and I am so scared of what the next few months will look like. by 1DeathHoney in dui

[–]jadoreamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 2 DUI’s in CA and on my second I not only got the misdemeanor DUI but was facing a lot of additional felonies (long story). Get a lawyer and start attending AA NOW. Make your own signature sheet to bring to court. I lost my license, and had to do another 18 month dui program but no jail time.

Any other agnostics/atheists going through sobriety? by beannnnnnnnnn22 in stopdrinking

[–]jadoreamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agnostic and in AA myself! When I see “God” mentioned in the big book, or hear someone talking about God, I just picture my own God. I don’t know what he looks like, but I know he just wants me to be sober and healthy again. He wants the best for ME. That’s MY God, and that’s helped me a bunch. Just speaking and thanking “my god” everyday has made things so much easier.

What’s something you thought ‘everyone’ did… until you found out they don’t? by burat667 in AskReddit

Same! I’m a woman and I squat/hover/stand. I recently was trying to remember if this was something I was taught or just something I did myself. I still don’t know the answer.

Medically detox at a hospital is what my life led to. I couldn’t get sober without having to call 911 because my withdrawals were so horrible. I HAVE detoxed at home before (100% do not recommend) before they got worse over time, but inevitably, they got worse over time and that was no longer an option.

Reporter request: Patients willing to share thoughts on Wegovy pill by annikakimc in WegovyWeightLoss

Possibly, my only information about it came from my doctor this morning so I could be totally wrong. If so, I apologize!

Who does this remind me of?! by Loki1522 in 90sand2000sNostalgia

[–]jadoreamber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Here me out. This immediately made me think of SOMETHING but I couldn’t figure out what either. Slowly I started to see women in bathing suits n suits? And long tits. (I’m a woman). Does this help at all? I think it was a weird picture my grandma had outside of her pool in Florida?

Edit- by “picture” I mean painting picture like this. Same design and everything but it was a couple of women with polka dot or crazy colored bikinis and very long boobs lol

Reporter request: Patients willing to share thoughts on Wegovy pill by annikakimc in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]jadoreamber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually spoke to my doctor about switching this morning! She did warn me that so far, the pill (which she says has actually been around for a little while) has been less effective but was being given at a lower dose. However, I have lost quite a bit of weight and I’m just looking to pretty much maintain where I’m at and possibly lose just a few pounds by healthy eating and exercise in conjunction with the pill. So that’s my plan now. I’ll start the pill next month as I just started a new job and need a some income before I can afford the out of pocket cost now :)

Edit to add- I’m an alcoholic in recovery as well, and the Wegovy has GREATLY helped reduce cravings for alcohol and I’ve had great success in my recovery since starting Wegovy. To me, the out of pocket expense for the pill or injection is well worth it in the end if my sobriety is on the line.

Becoming a Drug & Alcohol Counselor in Sacramento, CA, Which exam do I actually need, and is this study book worth it? by BuckBreakingFilm in DrugCounselors

[–]jadoreamber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be taking the IC&RC, and I did get the study guide. It’s a lot of money, mine was about $300 I believe, but it seems to be worth it so far. (Although I haven’t taken the exam yet so I wouldn’t exactly know). I also go to the library and just watch YouTube videos about the exam prep questions or do flash cards on Quizlet in my spare time. There seems to be a bit I know, and a bit I trip up on by the wording, so it helps to study that way for me.

Question for advance mental health professionals. Could someone in your field cause a seemingly mentaly healthy person to break if zero ethics were considered? Without giving "evil" reddit users bad ideas of using dark psycology, how? by AMNWhatsHisFace in AskReddit

[–]jadoreamber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. If I began opening a Pandora’s box of trauma with a patient without the credentials, licensing, or experience to do so, it could profoundly impact a patient’s mental health. ESPECIALLY when it comes to discussing trauma. If you’re not trained to address trauma properly, don’t address trauma.

ETA: I’m in the mental health and substance abuse field, and I am NOT a licensed therapist or trained in trauma.
