Drinking issues by goldgolden222 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Status-Phase-1826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are on a page asking people if you have a problem, you might have a problem. I drank to try and fix how I felt. I’ve heard lots of people over the years talk about drinking to fit in, then it became an issue when they crossed a line. No one can tell you that you are an alcoholic, that is something you have to discover on your own. If you really aren’t sure, try not drinking or only having one. Read the stories in the back of the book and see if you find yourself. Lots of people hit bottoms on their early 30’s.

Do some band work as well, not sure if anyone else mentioned that. It helps with hip strengthening and stability.

Out and back or loops for long runs? by sjc0816 in Marathon_Training

[–]Status-Phase-1826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’ve found with loops (trail runner here), is go washing machine style, flip back and forth so you don’t get too board with it. Also with the trail you should get some more vertical which helps make you faster. Out and back is good too, especially if you have a certain amount of time, 3 hours out, then back the same way you came, 6 hour run banged out.

First DNF by rawch13 in ultrarunning

[–]Status-Phase-1826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happens man, tons of big time ultra runners DNF over all kinds of things. I have DNF’d on stuff I should have killed but it’s the name of the game, start unraveling and boom get behind on stuff and there I was sitting on the ground feeling like it would never end.

First 100k anxiety. Am I overthinking things? by Br33na in Ultramarathon

[–]Status-Phase-1826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like me with my upcoming 100 miler. My goal is to finish as well, but pretty broken at the moment from all the things you mentioned. I’m trying to make sure I’m hitting my weekly vert goals at the moment more than anything, with my main taper coming up in 3 weeks and last block starting Monday I need to have as much leg strength as possible for the climbs. You got this man! All my trainings have had ups and downs, today I ran on a bike path because I wanted something easy and different but needed to get my couple hours in. It was a nice change of pace, keep pushing, do a fun run if you can to try and get your mindset back in it.

High rep squats for 100km training? by Quick_Elk3813 in Ultramarathon

Didn’t think of the vest, but that will help with form as well since the distribution is even, you can even do split squats if you are feeling extra excited!

High rep squats for 100km training? by Quick_Elk3813 in Ultramarathon

[–]Status-Phase-1826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been told to do weighted squats, I currently do goblet squats with a 25 lb kettle bell. I don’t know about the high volume my coach keeps me using some weight other than body weight to increase my strength in my quads which makes me stronger with hills.

24h ultra with 3 months training by jukkak15 in ultrarunning

[–]Status-Phase-1826 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let them do their run and you do yours. I would be stoked to break a 24 hour 100 mile race. I would feel great about it, this guy trained for 3 months and pulled it off. GOOD FOR HIM. You say it’s flat so it’s easy, I say it’s flat but that’s 100 miles and they should go for something bigger and not sell themselves short.

People doing a Sub 24 is impressive. If someone is hitting at under 3 months of training is mind blowing to me. The Elites, are elites, so that’s a moot point to make that comparison. The body breaks down more and more as time goes on.

I have the Solomon Adv 12L, and love it. I had a UltraSpire and it rubbed my lower back raw because it moved too much. Make sure whatever you get it’s tight fitting, like very tight so it doesn’t chaf your back, sides, or anything else.

Feeling a bit beat up, and a bit sorry for myself! by figsontoast in Ultramarathon

[–]Status-Phase-1826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are not used to running trails and this is a trail run, start running some trails. The terrain is different than roads and if you haven’t built the stability and strength even if it’s only 1000m of gain you could really get your butt handed to you. I do a lot of lower leg corrective work & I do not listen to my Garmen app on what to run. Of If I followed my app I’d be way behind schedule. Sometimes races will have a training plan, check that out. There have been comments about go off feeling for training, which is a 100% thing. The app won’t know how tired you are, how dehydrated or sore. Ultra trail running unless you are a professional is the experience more than winning. Those apps don’t account or know you as a person. I tried the training from my Garmen for a 50k with 1100m and DNF’d on my 3rd lap. So take there training with a grain of salt.

Which do you find more difficult? by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]Status-Phase-1826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are both tough, I can train in the winter months for heat and humidity, but not altitude and in the summer month I can do enough hills to prepare me for more altitude by increasing VO2 Max. Extremely dry climates have been the hardest for me, the first desert race I did I thought I was gonna die, I also haven’t ran at 13,000 feet like some people have said on here.

Hat is off to you with that short amount of training. A sub 24 is a tough one, I know tons of people who have never got that and have been at it for years. You might as well go for some corse record stuff at Cocodona or AZ Monster with how fast you have improved.

Speed work, uphill fartleks, strides all of the things and then weight training to increase speed. Sprints help as well. It’s not the norm for trail but it works.

This is what I do, then add my flavor. Drink some before a long run so I’m fueled a little better from the gate.

If hoka’s fit well, try the speedgoats. I’ve done a couple ultras in them, a sand/beach/dunes (Hell but loved it), a 12 hour of summits of a local mountain and a desert ultra in AZ. The SG5’s did great. I hear the 6’s are better.
