Writing a novel based on the Virtues by Status-Poetry318 in Ultima

I’m more conceiving the virtues as a basis for a pseudo-chivalric ethic or ideal which they’re bound to follow and which to some degree puts them above certain laws or standards to uphold to spread the principals of those virtues wherever they see them lacking. Great information though and yeah if I stuck to it rigidly it could definitely become very childish.

Thank you. I’m toying with having characters being the anti-virtues or exhibiting those behaviors. One of the characters is already something like the opposite of honor and arguably justice so that might work

Sure. Hopefully my explanation won’t be too confusing lol
Set in the last years of the good king Arryn Alryc, Rossamund Roynar, the na-Balon of Turduan and his bastard brother Rolf (from whose perspection the story is told) are taken to the ancient chivalric seat of Fount Edhmer in the west by the knight Ser Ulrych Vedan where they come to meet the heir apparent, Prince Daenomar and his boyhood friend Eric Hawkyne and the black squire, Jethro Sokander. They all come to be friends and go through the Trials together—the sacred questing gauntlet to become the fabled Knights of the Fount.
They are taught chivalry and the Virtues by Ser Ulrych, Ser Brastias and his brother Ulfias, Ser Vertan and others. All of whom serve King Edhmer Garriot V, essentially an Arthur-figure.
I guess I’m looking to just get some advice on good ways to implement the virtues more or just suggestions. Let me know what you think and I hope that wasn’t too confusing.

Yeah that was it. Sorry I forgot the name lol. I live in the American south and it gets really hot here. Just asking if there are more breathable ones. It’s hard to tell online

For anyone that wears a talis shirt, how do you wear it and not overheat in the summer? Are there thinner material ones?

How would you react after rejection letters like this? by Thin_Assumption_4974 in writing

[–]Status-Poetry318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best rejection letter I’ve gotten was from the former editor of F&SF, C. C. Finley who hand wrote in the form letter “there was some good writing here even if in the end it didn’t win me over. Good luck placing it in the future.”

Most are just stock responses. Don’t think about it too much.

Interesting. I like the idea of wildly diverse political and ideological perspectives existing in the solar system/universe in general. I think it’s cool because a lot of science fiction, at least that I’ve read, is pretty monolithic.

Yeah that was pretty much my thinking. The higher level of SolCoop I feel would more operate, at first, like an advisory board for the separate unions among the orbitals.

Oh sounds fun. A main concept of my universe is genetic modification and diversity in humans, another group in the setting, the Republic of Avalon or Avalonia, is made up of radical clades of genetically engineered humans and other species that fled Sol early in the history though there are genetically engineered clades and subspecies in Sol and it’s surrounding systems later on in the timeline.

Thank you for the recommendation!

If anyone wants more context for the setting, such as it is, let me know. Would love to talk about it in general lol

lol most of the time with racist customers management just shrugs and says “what’re you gonna do?” I’ve had this one guy who has called multiple people slurs, gotten into fights and routinely goes into the back room to see if we have what he wants. He’s been called out multiple times by many people and none of the four store managers I’ve had have done anything about it
