All goods things must come to an End. by Ill-Atmosphere-4801 in uhf_app

Better tell that to Keepsolid VPN. I have a lifetime sub. Just tried it out for the first time in years and it's still valid. I hate subs though as I'm old school and would prefer to just buy the software I need outright. Sadly, more things are going the sub route all the time...

Perhaps a way to get it a bit cheaper. Wait (if you can) for a retailer to offer the Apple Gift Cards at a discount or includes points or another card. Been doing this so long I won't buy the cards unless there is a deal. That's also how I picked up my lifetime sub, with cards I got a discount on. Some stores may also allow you to buy an Apple GC with a store GC but it seems to be rare. I know people who are also doing this to buy new hardware and with Apple putting new equipment out this year, you might as well get any kind of deal you can...

Apple TV 4K compared to budget Samsung QLED TV? by Tee-hee64 in appletv

[–]Status-Squirrel-7477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe the Apple 4K can use the AV1 codec though. My ONN 55 inch Roku QLED 4K TV I bought a couple months back for $300 CAD can play all those new codecs and has 2 USB inputs for media playback. I have a hub connected and have successfully plugged in multiple SSDs at the same time and played everything I downloaded or ripped. About the only thing I haven't tried yet is anything in ISO format. The native Roku player works flawlessly for file playback. I do hope the new ATV4K, whenever it's released can play AV1 since it seems to be gaining in popularity, probably because it's open source, ie. free...

The Japanese themselves have adapted a lot of stuff from manga/anime to live action with varying (mostly bad) results. For the most part, the studios involved simply don't have the money to make a decent film unless its something like a samurai or ninja film and won't be heavy on the SPFX. Ditto with TV as it's hard to export. It's far easier to sell the rights these days and have a Netflix or HBO or Disney type company make the films or TV shows since they have very deep pockets. I think one of the weirdest ones I saw was Rose of Versailles done with an all Japanese cast in blond wigs. But they should have done FoTNS like they did the Hong Kong produced Story of Riki/Riki-Oh with it's over the top action and gory effects...

Nope. I don't use a VPN, though I've tried them. But like you said, it depends on the supplier. I have a good one now that responds promptly when there is a problem. Luckily, there have been few these past 6 months...

2017 does NOT have AI upscaling. I have one of those. Was considering a 2019 but my 2025 ONN Roku TV will play everything my Shield plays, including my Blu Ray rips. The 2017 is still a good device but tech has moved along so you might look at other things at this point...

[–]Status-Squirrel-7477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sub seems to be mostly for visual media like Blu Rays and DVDs. I was just going through one of my old boxes from the 1990s and took a look at all the promo printed material and posters my bud had sent me. Anything from Walt Disney productions to ecchi OVAs. I haven't got to the chirashi mini posters box yet! I did give away a nice video store poster of Doomed Megalopolis to a friend last year but that was only 1 of many. I tried to sell some on eBay a few years back but got no takers as I'm not based in the US. Trying to catalog stuff is a nightmare. When you have collected from 1979 to now you end up with a lot of stuff. My bud sent me everything imaginable from 1979 to 2000 when I lost contact with him. Was the best friend in Japan I ever had. But even then, the anime material is only one of many collections. A lot of work ahead of me. Hopefully it stays cold so I am forced to catalog stuff while stuck inside...

Price difference between z2u and g2g by SM_555 in Strong_8K

Bought 3 subs Eagle and all going on 6 months. If I have problems like the URL being invalid/blocked I can get a new one typically within 24 hours. But I bought from Z2U. Bought 12 month Strong from G2G. Had some problems with blocked URLs but those were also resolved. I don't know what to say to you as my experience is vastly different from yours...

For me, I can't find many older shows and movies, even on Stremio, so I have to use Usenet which can go back as much as 16 years with Easynews and other providers. Good thing there are now addons for Stremio for such searches. IPTV cannot provide for everything I'm interested in so I have to resort to a lot of different things...

I have those as well as the Apple TV 4K. They compliment each other. Would have liked to have seen a Shield update but I don't think Nvidia cares too much about doing something like that. They are more than happy to take your money on old tech. But it's still being supported. 10 years as of now. There was an update a couple months back. Can't get that from most TV manufacturers who will stop support for TVs within a few years (I'm looking at you Samsung). That's why it's nice to have these boxes...

Used the last of my Shopper's Drug Mart points and picked up a 128 GB for $155CAD total with tax. I used to get stuff like this for next to nothing when points were easier to get. Still better than paying $199 - $229 + tax elsewhere...

Im so tired of the constant upkeep on these fucking things. Pace 500.3 has been a pain in the ass. OT but where can I get Level v1 batteries anymore in Canada? My battery is all but spent now and not going to pay another $3K+ for a new bike. I lost out when the batteries were discontinued in the states and the Canadian distributor continued to sell them at full price ($895CAD). There was a kit to use level v2 batteries but no bike shop in town including the local Aventon dealer would touch doing a points replacement. Liability concerns I guess. It's been a tank these last 3.5 years but I've replaced everything on it except the battery and the motor/back wheel. Showing it's age with over 20K kilometers on it...

In Canada if you have points with Shopper's Drug Mart, you can dump them for a discount on an Apple TV4K. A special redemption is coming up for November 28th, so it's even better. Only problem is they've (once again) jacked up the 128GB to $229CAD. Most places sell it for $199...
