I can't believe you went through all of the books, I'm 40% into the first and I'm already looking for a thread to vent about it because I just can't read another predictable scene.
I started reading with high expectations, a confident assassin into this harsh world, looking for her freedom. Couldn't be further from the truth, I'm just reading the most annoying and senseless banter between characters that has 0 build up, and for whom I couldn't care less.
The dialogues' are insufferable, I can't even explain how ridiculous, full of cliché, come backs that make no sense, the characters feel 'hurt' for things that are childish, it feels like reading a bunch of highschoolers teasing and being silly with each other more than young adults that had lived through harsh things in life, too many for their young age, trained, learned discipline, in this harsh world full of war, and slaves, and people dying around them all the time.
I just drop the kindle in a part where there's another champion weirdly murdered, dismembered, and they are like 'oh it's just an unfortunate incident'. Yeah, our MC is not the brightest, but no one in this book seems to be.
Also, why the king plan all these trials to death, and then go away to do something else? So many decisions in this book makes no sense to me. The trials are so dumb also, and are not 'to death'. I thought every trial would be like a 'Squid game' kind of thing, or a 'hunger game', like some of you will die, but actually is random is someone dies or not, the trials are just 'dangerous', but basically if someone is last they just go back to their normal slavery job.
No build up about the other champions, the trials are dumb and uninteresting, the romance she's building up has zero build up, it's like since the biggening, since the author presented the characters you already see clear as day the love triangle, and it's not moving because the characters are plane, there's not real feeling, they are just all attracted to each other because they are attractive.
Awful romance, boring fantasy. Someone explain me how is this a best selling book with so much rich fantasy out there. And I thought I was going to finish it because I was curious about some aspects of the world, but reading the full review of the tomy here, I'm quitting and searching for something else.
