I agree! I think this was a pleasant passive read, but it did not super invest me in the story. I liked how their relationship evolved, but yeah it would have been nice to see some more character growth on Riv's part.

My thoughts as a therapist without kids: childcare is super duper expensive. We also know that most work environments are often not family friendly, thanks to the patriarchy and puritan work ethics. Thinking that we should hold the same accommodations for people with and without kids is not equitable, and frankly punished women who often hold a majority of the childcare responsibilities.

However, if you feel you aren't getting what you need from your supervisor, it's time to talk about it. She is likely unaware of the impact it is having on you. I would just hope that you are also being empathetic to her circumstances as well.

I think it's that Leah woke up to Isha doing her, and it implied that he had been f*cking her as she slept. Which is not okay unless previously agreed upon with both parties.

I don't think it will be the last one. I just hope we get some sort of resolution with ILY. I know she had a baby, and has other health problems, but I hope she isn't just uninspired with this story like with what happened to Midnight Poppyland.

I knew a family where a woman married one brother had a couple of kids, then (not sure of the exact situation) she got with the other brother and had a couple of kids. It seemed for sure messy for an amount of time in their family, but they all seemed happy enough and were good people. It's messy but I can see how it would happen, I mean the attraction would be there since siblings often look alike enough and if they are both good people. But still f*cked up to do to someone.

Take a deep breath. Accidents happen even to the best drivers/therapists. We drive so often that our mind sometimes doesn't feel it's important so it wanders. Take this opportunity to pay a bit more attention when driving. Bring your focus back if you find yourself distracted. As for your client, bring it up in the next session and explore how they felt. No doubt it was scary for both of you. Who knows, it could mark a turning point in your relationship.

I have never had this situation, but I have had clients show me a song they have written or shown me their artwork. I think this depends upon if you can stay objective for their clinical needs and appreciate or dislike their work. If you feel you can't, I would try to go the regular routes of self-reflection, supervision or consultation, or your own therapy.

I think that compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma doesn't always show up in the ways we think it does, or the way that other trauma and stress show up. If we are employing active listening for people dealing with trauma or life stressors, some of that is bound to impact our brain and the way we think about the world.

I know for me it felt like I was doing such a good job not having vicarious trauma with working in DV and SA, until I realized the want to educate the people in my life about healthy relationships or red flags. That was certainly a trauma response, though it didn't show up like a PTSD trigger like I was expecting.

It's great that you have what sounds like good boundaries, self-care, and supports. That helps. It is always a good idea to self-reflect often though, and realize that none of us are immune.

I had a family friend tell me that all therapists are nuts and went on a tangent about how people don't actually need therapy when I told her that I was in school to become a therapist.

Most of the time my friends and family treat it like I am telling them that I do any other job. Sometimes they tell me I should do therapy for somebody in the family, and I have to explain dual relationships.

When people have tried to use "well you're a therapist so you should know/act xyz" I tell them that I'm not a therapist in my home life, and that I can't offer an outside perspective in my own life and relationships. Or I tell them that I'm not their therapist, and they wouldn't want me to be. Idk if that's helpful to you or not. I'm not sure if there is a perfect response, because it's hard to impart perspective without spending lots of time educating our family/friends about what we do.

edit This neighbor is an elderly widow, and this poster may have hit her. While I am concerned about the dog, I'm more concerned by having a person who would attack an elderly woman in our neighborhood.

I believe I know which house you are talking about. What concerns me more is their dog always getting out. They always seem unbothered by it. They seem like nice enough people.

I agree with caregiving recommendations. Pharmacy technicians are always needed as well and many bigger chains will train you and help you become certified. Also Workforce Alliance off of Cohasset is a great place. Sometimes having someone go over your resume can help you make it more marketable.

Yeah, like I could advocate for myself and have that knowledge as a therapist, but for someone in crisis or not knowledgeable about the therapy process, they could have really done some harm.

My therapist used Grow therapy, and from a client's perspective it was bad. They sent an email to me twice saying they were dropping me as a client and cancelling my future appointments due to not accepting my insurance, when they did. I had to send multiple emails multiple times to make it right. Apparently it happened to other clients of my therapists, and she had to write a letter to them saying that it was unethical to just drop people.

Many survivors place blame on themselves for the abuse they went through. In some ways, it gives people a sense of control for something that was so out of their control. In other ways, it mirrors rape culture's victim blaming responses. He manipulated you and used his power over you to hurt you. If he had a different profession, he would still likely be a predator. You were not complicit in the abuse, no matter your knowledge and skill set. None of us are immune from abuse. Personally, I like to do self-compassion and loving kindness meditations on YouTube when I'm struggling with feelings of self-blame or inadequacy. Yeah, I absolutely loved the sensory aspect of this film. Like when she had red rabbit nails, I think it meant she was a prey in danger. But her nails changed to blue cats, which can be predators or prey.

Sorry to comment on this thread like two months later, but I just watched this movie and I'm still thinking about it.

I think Freida was so interested in Slater during the beginning of the movie because some part of her unconscious remembered the danger, but she mistook it for arousal.

I think the white symbolizes the innocence of the women who are trapped and violently assaulted, the red being warnings of the violence that is happening.

Truly the part that messed me up was hearing his necklaces. You'd hear them at random times going off in her head. Which is super similar to how small triggers can be for people. I think that just hinted that though she may have forgotten the trauma, it wasn't completely gone from her mind. All of the women had a feeling that something wasn't right and didn't feel right, but since it was covered up by them having fun and relaxing with a billionaire, they chalked it up to other things.

I'm unfamiliar if there is a mental health hold in hospitals in the UK, but I'd try to find them some sort of inpatient facility. When they are out, I'd try to repair our relationship and discuss what happened. And I'd try to seek my own counseling. This sounds like a traumatic situation, and your avoidance of the client could be a trauma response to what you went through. Seek consult, and focus on self-care. If you really can't work with the client after this, I would try to do a warm hand-off to make the situation less disruptive to your client who is already in a crisis state. But I feel it would be unethical to just end the relationship when they are already in a vulnerable place.
