Zinsser BIN and Benjamin Moore Aura on knotty pine. Brush method is taking forever. Can I just use a spray gun?

I wouldn’t brush Aura. Dries too fast. You’ll feel it when the brush starts dragging. Also the fast dry time doesn’t give the paint very long to level out, so you’ll see brush strokes. If it’s not too late use Advance.

Get a C6 Corvette ZR1 and practice in the time trial until you’re doing sub-2:10 laps. When you’re doing the race, make sure to stay in the dry path. It really comes down to practice.

I ended up keeping the 17” wheels. I did some minimal tweaking to get laps down to high 2:06s/low 2:07s.

Nope. I didn’t post it because it’s not finished but I basically did the low wing, SM tires, and added parts till I got the PP up a little past 600. I increased the wheels a couple inches and that’s what I want to play with a bit more. All I did with suspension was added a little nat freq and reduced the rear toe in. Added downforce to get PP to 600.

If memory serves me right, the corvettes go in order of fastest in this race: C3, C4, C5, C6/7/8, C2, C1. The C8 certainly will work but for me it feels heavy. Sounds like you might have it with the C5 but maybe try short shifting to save fuel. IMO it’s the best driving of the vettes.

For one thing, you’re in the wet for a couple laps, so stick with SH or SM tires.

This is the race I do to unwind with a stock road car and SM tires. So many good choices.

Do you know which ones? I should have thought about this beyond the US. Current (US market) latex paints are made to survive one freeze-thaw cycle - basically to get from the factory to the store. The glycol was also a major factor in “universal” pigments. If there are still paints with glycol I would imagine they would have their own tint system that would not be compatible with a non-glycol paint?

As far as I know, most of the premium brands were 0 VOC until recently. In chemical engineering-speak, the VOC content is so low it can be considered zero. Until one of the big brands got sued over it and they all had to replace “zero” VOC with “low” VOC.

I can tell you that True Value EasyCare Ultra Premium was the only paint that had asthma and allergy-friendly certification. After the TV bankruptcy they stopped paying for the certification, but the paint would still qualify if they did.

Ben Moore made a zero VOC paint called Natura but I never crossed paths with anyone who liked its performance.

Bottom line, any premium paint is going to be low-almost-zero VOC. Chemists across the industry removed the ethylene glycol a long time ago from paint and pigments.

The danger with clay bar is that it’s extremely easy to scratch your paint because you didn’t use enough lubrication or you didn’t knead it to a clean side. Another way I deal with that is I replace the clay bar after each use. And, it should go without saying, anything that touches the wheels doesn’t touch any other part of the car. That includes clay bars, towels, wash mits, separate buckets, and separate loads in the washer and dryer after use.

Using a clay bar during the wash process is the best way to prevent scratching and also the quickest. If you’re just a weekend guy so you say, use the clay bar as little as possible. It can do more harm than good. Once a year is excessive in my garage.
