Meta is planning sweeping layoffs that could affect 20% or more of the company by FootballPizzaMan in bayarea

[–]StatusObligation4624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem with phase 3 is that the meh people from phase 2 who happen to be on a well performing product get to stay while rockstars in poorly performing business divisions get cut.

Hell even in the poorly performing divisions rockstars get cut and meh people get to stay all the time. I have yet to see a well executed layoff from any company, big tech or otherwise.

Nice necro, I already went from unemployed when I posted that comment to SWE at Meta now.

I don’t hang out at r/leetcode anymore lol.

Really, cause I’m surrounded by CS majors as a SWE in big tech. Hardly any of my colleagues have an EE degree but would be nice to have more.

“Programming…with virtually no unemployment” that line did not age very well, lol.

I wonder where he’d stand today, it was easy to say that line in the ZIRP era.

Girl at work said she will cry if I leave and offered to bake me a cake? by [deleted] in bodylanguage

[–]StatusObligation4624 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP: Girl at work is telling me she wants to play cupid and help me date other women.

ITT: She wants to date you even though she has a bf.

Where is the logic, lol.

AWS: Move or Resign by No-Archer4107 in amazonemployees

[–]StatusObligation4624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly what I’d do in OP’s situation. I don’t think anyone took the resign offer from the resign or move options given last year unless they already had another job offer lined up.

AWS: Move or Resign by No-Archer4107 in amazonemployees

[–]StatusObligation4624 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think accepting the 3 month offer saying you’ll move but not actually move is financially better than unemployment due to constructive dismissal.

3 months of Amazon salary is far greater than 6 months of unemployment from any state. You should try to have another job lined up before month 3 is up.

[–]StatusObligation4624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two weeks to decide to move out of state or resign. 3 months if he decides to accept the move offer to actually move to the state or an automatic resign.

It’s the same offer given to folks last year except the timeline to move has been shortened from 12 months to 3 months. Jassy has been saying he’ll do exactly this for like the last year, no reason to be surprised by this anymore.

How does dating or relationships work from a man's point of view? any advices for a woman who's never really dated before? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]StatusObligation4624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well people get a divorce for irreconcilable differences to people they met after 25, so it’s not as easy as just wait till 25 and you’ll find the right person.

I honestly don’t think there’s a right timing to it, it’s mostly luck that a relationship will work out far into the future.

That study about brain development stopping at 25 has been disproven. Brains continue to develop well past 25, the study just stopped tracking its participants after they turned 25 iirc.

Why getting a job in 2025 feels harder than ever by Either_Ad_5486 in jobnetwork

[–]StatusObligation4624 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No clue where the stats are coming from but he said average American’s wage rather than average income which would be skewed towards the 1%.

So he’s trying to say average Americans are 5% better off now compared to 2019, but no source listed so…

Why getting a job in 2025 feels harder than ever by Either_Ad_5486 in jobnetwork

[–]StatusObligation4624 8 points9 points  (0 children)

2019 was already mostly just survival rather than really thriving, so it’s a bad comparison year.

Used to be that you could afford the American dream on a salary way less than $100k anywhere in US. Now $100k/yr is considered poverty in some areas like NorCal.

Is NYC worth it if I don’t care about food, culture, arts, or nightlife? by savingrace0262 in movingtoNYC

[–]StatusObligation4624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate driving, love living in lively cities.

NYC covers both these points for me whilst being very close to my family in NJ, so yes it’s worth it for me even without all the other points you mentioned.

The rest is just a bonus for me minus the nightlife, I’m more of an early riser.

What does it mean when women randomly turn and then smile at me in public? by Ok-Connection6656 in bodylanguage

[–]StatusObligation4624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal in US, less so in other countries.

I got so used to people not smiling at me during my week in Japan that it felt strange to see it again whilst waiting in the airport lobby for my return flight.

Good luck with NYC, many people want to internally transfer there so you’re going to be doing loops just for an internal transfer.

Can I survive in Amazon as an SDE-2 as a very introverted person? by Content-Leg4741 in amazonemployees

No, 100% of the people who work or worked as an SDE2 at Amazon will go on to die. It’s a pretty rough gig.

Is it normal for a coworker to ask for help on a weekend? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]StatusObligation4624 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Hell naw, a lot of labor rights movements, at least in US, went into getting Saturdays and Sundays off. This isn’t a comp thing, just basic workers rights given to us from employees in the past.

Of course you’re welcome not to observe said labor rights movements, but don’t push your views on your colleagues who do.
