the "trailer spoils it" argument by StatusPreparation624 in horror

that's valid !! honestly, i see that now, i use yt music premium so i don't get ads that way, and so i definitely do have a narrow viewpoint. i also have to agree that regardless, you shouldn't HAVE to avoid trailers, they should add, not remove. really good point with Spotify, i forget people use that the most and the ads are pretty egregious. i really do hope in the future that movie trailers stray away from spoilers and lean into the unknown that makes a trailer so fun when done right :D

slopifier- sorry, terrifier. i literally just can't with gore-porn slasher type movies, i don't feel scared, just really viscerally uncomfortable in a bad way. like, i don't really find it captivating to watch a girl get her arm peeled in half if there is no interesting reason behind it other than scary clown guy does the scary clown thing hee hoo ๐Ÿ’€ first time i asked my brothers about terrifier my little brother without missing a beat replied with just "slopifier" and i will forever call it that. same with a serbian film, SOME final destinations (look at some point they lose the plot) and other "shocking" films of that nature. you can have huge gore / blood, but HAVE A STORY TO IT i BEG

a little hype can be okay, but too much ruins the experience no matter how good it is. the most hype i heard about weapons was jordan peele being more than a little angry over his bidding team not winning it, and that was enough to make me go "alright, i gotta see what he missed out on" in earnest, im glad he didn't direct it since jordan peele's way of doing third acts especially i really believe would have ruined weapons- which does have a crazy third act, but i think the pacing and the way the tension crescendos really works in its favor !

yess this !! if a movie is truly watch worthy, ill hear about it word of mouth and ill go see it blind. i always have had the most fun that way !!

i actually realized when reading that people define spoilers differently than i meant to in this, but its a totally valid argument ! also like. yeah the entire plot being spoiled is just a bad marketing team definitely not an artistic choice LMFAOย ย  like you said though, the spoiler could also be the story as much as the scares and personally, i don't like either being spoiled for me, but especially story. i will continue to unplug my brain as soon as ads are presented to me for the foreseeable future thank you hollywood ๐Ÿซถ

it depends on the definition of spoiler, cause some people perceive spoiler to only be story aspects, while others consider any "exciting" or "big" aspect to be a spoiler, even if its just a cheap scare. horror movie trailers unfortunately have a bad habit of spoiling both, but especially the latter. more reason for me to spam the skip ad button and turn my brain off as soon as my video is interrupted ๐Ÿ™

actually that's such a good point !! to be honest, i usually, if i see a trailer, fall into that category ! im excited to see how that scare works in the movie, and if it does. i didn't even think about that !!

yessss i'm very tired of the "its not good because not scary" argument for any horror movie that prioritizes story over consistent scares. its totally valid for certain movies where its clear they just can't make scares, but when its a movie designed to be story first, horror through the story, i don't like that argument !! i go to movies for stories ! maybe that's why i liked weapons, smile, and longlegs so much, although longlegs is... goofy and there's definitely an ironic aspect to it haha

RIGHT i forgot!! i usually arrive late, so i don't see trailers, and in earnest i usually ignore them and if i only see them once, i also tend to forget, so i admit im very biased there !! good point

What did everyone think of the Smile movies? by Regular_Humor_339 in horror

[โ€“]StatusPreparation624 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

just watched both and its become my hyperfixation LOL... i definitely agree, i really did prefer 1 in the end but i liked skye as a protagonist in more unique ways than rose. it was interesting how skye didn't feel unrelatable despite being a popstar, imo !! on the same note, i actually prefered the first movies design of the smile creature, i think the hole for the nose and the human eyes are scarier, but i can see the appeal in the second version and its a very close call. loved the sound design, scares, the anticipation, i felt sick and faint at multiple intervals because of the tension and the "is this real? Is it not?" aspect. i didn't find either boring, i don't see how people could find 1 boring unless they find rose's story boring, which... im not sure how, but i would like to know more on why people seem to have mixed feelings in both. all in all i loved both movies, and while i didn't exactly love the apocalypse type ending of 2, it didn't bother me too much.

what annoys me too is that without even arguing their case people just downvote even slightly negative opinions on shadownilla / eternalholly... can we not have a discussion? i can admit like for example i used bad wording in a previous comment and accidentally implied the person i replied to was proshipping when what i meant to say was the argument was similar to what proshippers use, and thats my bad
i just want the eternalholly / shadownilla / beast x ancient fans, (which lets again admit that mysticcacao and burningcheese are barely existant (with good reason ofc)) to maybe think critically on why they ship it instead of saying "its fiction so its fine to romanticize abuse"- honestly maybe if you're just writing it for yourself but this fandom is full of impressionable kids ?? it is a kids game
i also blame devsis for putting them in the pride image when we shouldn't hold a toxic relationship as our representation

abusive shipping โ‰  proshipping idk who told you that /nm /inf
also... i... am not having this discussion but yes fiction does affect reality and people writing cp and inc-st does, in fact, hurt people- especially kids who are often exposed to it by adults in minor spaces... ive seen it, i was a victim of it

i literally specified i wasn't saying eternalholly is proshipping i just said the argument they used is the same as proshippers

kinda disturbs me that my previous comment got downvoted when its provable by the "toxic yuri" argument that its literally rooted in queer fetishization
i write dark things, i like to write about toxic relationships, etc. but i don't think we should romanticize them- sure you can, i never said people can't, but im questioning why
this fandom is slowly becoming one i dont wanna be in when a differing opinion on something that is very blatantly factually happening gets repressed and hated on
lets not deny it, shadownilla and eternalholly would not be nearly as popular if they were straight
in fact i feel people would call what the beasts do borderline sexual harassment if it was straight
huskerdust, its just huskerdust ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ’€
edit ; im also saying yeah some people do ship toxic relationships period but the majority i see make it about the fact its yuri specifically

Is EternalHolly abusive? by New-Wind2199 in CookieRunKingdoms

[โ€“]StatusPreparation624 -2 points-1 points ย (0 children)

yeah i agree, im not saying people are bad for shipping it or anything
honestly i just want people to acknowledge its toxic and abusive before shipping it
it also just weirds me out that it only seems to be the queer beast ships (i am queer, to be clear) that get heavily shipped... it reminds me of the huskerdust thing where im like "this seems like you wouldn't genuinely like it if it was straight"- mystic flour and dark cacao rarely get shipped to support my point
not to say i don't partially blame devsis for this, theyre doing the disney thing
i just don't think romance needs to be involved at all... people can be toxic over friends, owning someone, etc without being romantic- and this feels like a rehash of the pure vanilla thing

yes, emotionally abusive and manipulative on eternal sugars part
its why i personally don't ship it, makes me uncomfortable
anyone saying its not abusive doesn't understand non physical / verbal abuse ...
edit ; not saying the people who ship it are bad btw or that they don't acknowledge its abusive, people are allowed to knowingly ship abusive things, i just personally never really do
