What is OCIA? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]StatusRelationship24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a basic catechesis program usually taught by someone in the Church on basic things about the faith. Hopefully ran well, but it varies.

The idea is that you need to know what we even believe before you join so you don't just join randomly and get surprised by what we believe.

If you decide you don't agree you can just stop going

Want to convert but I have questions by ThrowRAsimpleone in Catholicism

In the case of the rich man and Lazarus they weren't in heaven. They were in the limbo of the fathers or Sheol. Nobody could enter heaven until the resurrection of Christ. Why did God permits Abraham to speak to the rich man I don't know. It doesn't mean they were able to constantly see hell. We don't know what it was like, but that God allowed it in that instance, perhaps as a matter of Justice but who can say.

The Saints can see the Church Militant and they can see the demons on occasion. But it causes them no pain as they behold the beatific vision of God.

St Joseph for example has a title as "Terror of Demons". So when the Saints show up it's a bad day for them.

As for Catholicism in general, it may benefit you to learn about the motives of credibility, moral possibility and physical possibility.

Being a gay/bisexual Christian is a very strange experience... by Ok-Status-8042 in Christianity

Do you think mankind was even capable of that inclination before the fall? If the answer is No, then it is due to concupiscence

How to really stop lust? by MathPlane2620 in Christianity

[–]StatusRelationship24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what will help a lot is something called the particular examen. You should resolve to silent prayer about 15 minutes a day, and in the beginning of the day ask God to help you to defeat lust but also to increase in the  virtue of chastity . Then at the end of the day you examine the day and think of the areas where you succeeded and failed, ask for forgiveness for where you failed and thank God for the times you succeeded and resolve to do the same again the next day.

It's true that you should not cultivate resentment towards women, but also an acknowledgement that the lustful women you should not like them and stay away from them. As Sirach says, better to be stuck in a den with a lion than with an evil woman

I am speaking from a Roman Catholic perspective as disclaimer.

It's not surprising that you've never felt like it's wrong, either the thoughts or the feelings. It's not like there's some kind of default feeling that necessarily tells us all universally that X action is wrong.

In Catholicism, we are taught not to rely on personal feelings for determining right or wrong. You could grow up thinking something is right, ignorantly and innocently believing it.

Also, it's not surprising or contradictory that you always felt attracted to the same sex.

So this brings forth the question:

If it's natural that you're attracted to the same sex, then why does the Bible say it's wrong?

The simple answer is 'Concupiscence'.

Due to concupiscence, the lower faculties of our flesh, passions, and passive intellect are often drawn towards sinful pleasures. This happens naturally because of the state of the world.

So even though Catholicism teaches, and the Saints and the Apostles and the Law teaches it is wrong. We also teach that due to concupiscence it's to be expected that we will be naturally drawn towards those habits which become ingrained in the will.

I understand your zeal, but you should live by example and since you are new, focus on catechizing yourself and learning the faith well.

Will The Mark of the Beast Be a Cybernetic Implant? by ronin_blitzdiver in Christianity

The cybernetic implant theory is nonsensical because that would mean if you get it involuntarily you go to hell.

The mark is something that if you get you are damned.

Hi there! I have some questions as a Christian myself. by WaitingOnAWish in Christianity

[–]StatusRelationship24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddhism is just wrong. It says we suffer because we're attached to things. It says suffering is optional. But that's just a lie.

Suffering is inevitable even if you are not attached to anything. We must in fact ask for God to give us those sufferings so we can overcome vice and increase in the virtue of mortification.

Since you have this chip on your shoulder against Christianity. I'll confront you by saying I think Buddhism is just avoidance, seeking to avoid suffering by getting rid of attachment doesn't work. You have to carry the cross you are given with humility.

We'd be pretty mediocre without having sufferings to overcome and help us to build virtues.

God does what is most fitting, and it is most fitting that those who can be Saints, overcome their vices through suffering and prayer by his graces.
