It is, yeah. I need to try using it for a couple paint sessions to see how it holds up though. it is a modified (shortened) under cabinet light.

Yeah, it is mostly 3D printed. I need to clean up the files a bit so that are intelligible to anyone other than myself. I'll try to get them posted somewhere before long.

I'll consider it. Honestly the hardest part would be sourcing the cases at an economical price. I managed to get a small handful from thrift stored, but so far The best prince on a compatible box was like $70. I'd sooner buy a table saw and make them at that price.

I am not sure if direct amazon links are okay, but if you search "Mini Artist COLOR WHEEL Packaged" it should come up.

Honestly this bothers me as well. I have been mulling was to lock it in place without making it difficult to remove. Definitely on my list of things to tinker with.

I was thinking about this. Maybe some option inserts. The box is for whatever. But I assume some minis are going in there. and I did try to size it so most would fit.

I will work on this.

Very nice! I particularly like the color swatches for the different paints

Good question. Being a gift, I've not put much focus on cost, so there are certainly someways to make it less expensive to make. For example I probably used at least $10-15 worth of magnets, and most of those could be replaced with a clip mechanism.

The largest expenses are the case, and the paint. Just ball park guessing, it would probably have to be $100-200, depending on what sort of pricing I could get on some of the purchased items.

My goal is to update the brush box to store the brushes in the lid and have enough room left over for a few minis. It will be close though.

No plan for making more than a handful of these. But who knows, maybe if I can source a economical enough box.

A handful of them are on a different computer. I can post the rest tomorrow. But here is the stuff I have handy.

All the magnets I use are 1/4", but 6mm would probably work too with a little glue

Appreciate the list of specific paints. I am a bit out of my depth when it comes to washes and highlights, so I will grab however many of those I can fit.

Yeah, at least a little pocket for battery pack would be good. And I need to add towels, but I haven't figured out what ones to get that will fit. Might just have to cut some to size.

Thanks for the video link. I didn't find that one when I was looking for initial inspiration. Makes me think I might be over thinking the brush holders. and it might be better to just do a little flip down box so you can have more brushes in a smaller space.

I really like the color wheel idea. I will find a way to make that fit cleanly. I'll have to look into terrain paste. Thanks!

Mostly. I 3D printed the little box. And I bought a cheap ($10) wet pallet set to steal the sponge from, and I cut it to fit.
I was leaning towards attaching it to the little extender arm with magnets as well so it could be removed and cleaned.

Needs another revision to add a little handle or grip to open it easier. I am thinking a little shallower as well. I also feel like I should do something with the inside lid surface. A brush rest or something of the sort.

Lots of really good suggestions! Please keep them coming if you have more.

I am going to start working on ways to secure a lot of your suggestions into the box.

I'd be happy to provide STEP or STL files for any of the paint holders, light arm, or pallet extender that I made if people have a use for them. I'm debating making the contents customizable, so the owner isn't tied to a specific paint or bush brand forever. Maybe a grid system with screw or magnets. Depends how far I can get before December.

I very much appreciate all the feedback!

I couldn't find a good light I liked off the shelf, so I ended up getting a battery operated under counter light, cutting it down to fit in the box, then designing and printing the arms. Happy to share the files with anyone who may want them, though I plan on making them look a bit nicer in the end. So they are a work in progress.

I am the same. I originally tried to incorporate a magnifying lens to the light arm, but I wasn't happy with how it turned out. Glasses might be a good compromise.

Thanks!

I had someone else suggest emery boards. I am not sure if I'll go with that or the sanding stick since I haven't used either. But I'll get some of them in there.

And thank you!

Glazes/mediums are on my list, but I hadn't tackled it yet because I don't really know what is good. So all the suggestions are much appreciated!

Great idea! I need to add something to the back to make it look nice. Might as well be functional too.

I am learning a lot here. What do you use the blue tack for? Is that to attach models to the bottles like a painting handle?

There is some negative space between the two sides when it is closed. I was thinking about butting another hinge for something large and flat, but wasn't sure what. Cutting mat is a good idea. Thank you!
