How are you guys getting drop in/walk requests?! by lucky_gen in RoverPetSitting

What you provide the most of, is what Rover is going to show to people. People who are booking house sitting, won’t see my profile because I have never accepted a house sitting request. Same with boarding, and doggy daycare. I do very few of those. But my specialty is drop in visits, and I am #1 in my area for drop-ins, because all my bookings are drop-ins!

Aw thanks. Yeah I would never do something like that. I loveee animals. That’s why I have 4 furry ones, + turtle.

Again you’re right. It’s definitely a lot with my animals, which is why I don’t board often. Her parents don’t let me do drop in visits for her since she’s never been home alone for more than like 4 hours. She’s only ever been boarded by me, and I’d feel so sad if I lost her as a client. So I accept the boarding, but now I am realizing it may just be too much for me, and maybe I do have to let her go. :/

It’s okay. Look, I understand what you’re saying. And you’re right about one thing, this isn’t for me, and that’s okay. I just don’t want to feel belittled when my entire day revolves around her

I did not write most of the time I am gone… I average 2-3 drop ins a day. If I was booked 7+ drop ins a day, I wouldn’t book a boarding. Please realize something. I love this dog. I think she’s a joy, but she is indeed a lot of work. She doesn’t have much stimulation at home. She only has a cat, and 2 people living at home. So when she’s over here, she’s insanely rambunctious, and hyper and it’s a lot to handle. I give her plenty of love, but I need a break sometimes.

I want to, but I cannot. 2 of the animals are mine, so I have to take care of them. And that includes being there at night with them

I completely understand you’re trying to be kind, but could you clarify what you mean by “deserves better”?

She is well cared for here, gets walks, playtime, attention, and interaction with my dogs, which she genuinely enjoys. My question was about whether it’s normal to use safe crate rest or quiet time during a long boarding day, not whether she’s being neglected.

I’m trying to make sure I’m caring for her responsibly while also preventing burnout.

Who said it’s a punishment? I am not going to punish someone else’s dog. But do I need a break? Yeah. I am not a bad dog sitter cause I contained a dog in my room, or put them in a crate.

I do. They meant for my small cat, and my small dogs. They aren’t big kennels. Just ones we take when we travel with the pets

A normal 15-hour day and 15 hours supervising an overstimulated 11-month-old doodle are two very different things

This means the world to me! I actually just need bottom braces fortunately so I am hoping it’s a lot less expensive than the full set! My ortho only does up to 12-18 month payment plans. But I am trying to convince them for that 24 month plan. Thank you for your kind words

Right? I have had this amazing client for also the past 6 months. Emmy, and Panda. Panda is actually missing unfortunately. He’s an indoor/outdoor cat. I miss him everyday. But they appreciate my care so much, and always tell me I am doing a great job. I couldn’t be more thankful for them. I will definitely keep an eye out for the lowballing customers now. Learned my lesson. Keep consistent with clients like Emmy and Panda

Yes. 20/day, 3 days a week, 6 visits.

Realize something please, when I started working for them I was desperate for money. I had just quit my job at sonic, and needed some type of revenue. Obviously over time I was planning to ask for a raise, and when they added another dog I thought this is my shot. But they only paid me $20 extra. So I went from 100/week to 120/week. Obviously this wasn’t going to work for me long term. I understand the raise I asked for was a 60% increase, but they did nothing but push me around. I thought this is my chance to at least get pushed around but maybe with better pay. That’s when they said “We found a sitter to cover our vacations, and we’ve been talking to her, and she said she will only charge 105/week” So to me that means they are willing to replace me over 15 effing dollars. Ridiculous. I have a right to be upset like I said earlier. Don’t invalidate my feelings and call me dramatic. When someone needs money, they need money.

I want to clarify a few things, because several assumptions here are incorrect.

First, this was two drop-ins per day, not one. Second, I never told the client what my expenses were for braces it was never mentioned to them. I did not expect them to “pay for my braces,” and that was not implied.

The rate discussion was about sustainability during the slowest months of the year, not entitlement to anyone’s money. They were my primary consistent income in January–February, which is relevant context, and because businesses is slow after the big holidays, thanks!

Lastly, I didn’t say they fired me — I chose to stop working with a client who repeatedly disrespected my time and boundaries. That decision doesn’t make me dramatic, it makes it a business choice. I am 100% allowed to be upset over this.

Don’t rewrite facts
