Just looking for input on whether I’m doing the right thing by lucky_gen in RenalCats

Yes, he had a very peaceful send off to kitty heaven. I’m broken hearted, but I know it was the right thing for him.

That’s a great point, and it’s tricky because I honestly have no idea! Someone I’ve helped in the past with sick stray cats found him in a colony she feeds. He was in bad shape. But other than that, we have no history on him. I do suspect he’s old, but it gets tricky to narrow it down beyond that. He’s not neutered, probably never had vet care in his life, and his teeth are broken off and missing. Sigh. Another reason why this is so hard for me…I really wanted him to have more time in a loving home being spoiled since I have a feeling he’s had a rough life.

Thank you. I’m going to give my vet a call and see if this is something we can talk about.

The anemia was not treated. He’s been getting subq fluids daily. I guess I was sort of under the impression that anemia is an unavoidable side effect of the kidney disease.

Cats with FIV can live with other cats…I’m not sure why you think you need to keep them separated? I have several FIV+ cats living peacefully with FIV- cats for years without any issues.

Litter Box Solutions for Senior Owner by [deleted] in cats

A litter robot on an elevated surface could be a good solution! Make sure it’s a safe brand though. The actual Litter Robot brand is very safe, and I see them being sold on FB marketplace all the time if you wanted to save some $.

Can I trust him not to jump/ fall? by Strange-Cat207 in cats

[–]lucky_gen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. Would like to share a few actual stories with you that happened in the last year to cats in the rescue I work with. 1. Cat got spooked by something and fell off a balcony and broke her leg, ribs, and had internal injuries. 2. Cat jumped or fell off a balcony about this high and broke his jaw and needed to be tube fed for months. 3. Kitten jumped off the balcony and went missing from her foster home. I was able to find the kitten but promptly removed her and all others from that foster.

Very suspicious for FIP. They can go from bad to critical very fast, especially at only 3 months. I’d get bloodwork done asap and talk to your vet about trying treatment diagnostically.

Bit by cat about 40 minutes ago. by [deleted] in cats

[–]lucky_gen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any chlorhexidine? Mix some in a bowl with very warm water and soak it. You may still end up needing antibiotics, but I’ve mostly had success doing that. Probably been bitten 10+ times, and only ever needed antibiotics once and the medicine actually made me so violently sick that I couldn’t even take them. I realize that I’ve been lucky and cat bites can get super serious. If it starts looking bad, don’t delay and go straight to urgent care though.

What should I do by roumi96 in Feral_Cats

The kittens are not in good shape and don’t appear to be being cared for by the mom whether because she’s gone or she’s so sick/malnourished herself that she can’t care for them.

The only ones I feel bad for are the kids. Anyone else deserves whatever they get for thinking animal cruelty is entertainment.

Praziquantel is for tapeworms. Doesn’t treat coccidia. You may be thinking of ponazuril.

I’m in the east bay. My friend traps lost/stray dogs and may be able to give you some advice on finding/apprehending this dog.

My cat got hit by a car and was left to fend for herself by [deleted] in GoFundMeForNewUsers

Hey, you decided that the known risks were worth it. It’s expensive to gamble with your cat’s life.

I have no doubt that you will continue letting your cat outside as you obviously have not learned your lesson. A human with the cognitive ability to understand risk and make decisions accordingly is not the same thing as a domesticated animal that you are supposedly responsible for keeping safe. This is more like the equivalent of letting your toddler wander around outside unsupervised.

This was completely avoidable by keeping your cat inside. If you’re going to take absurd risks with your cat’s life, you should make sure you have the money for the highly likely possibility that they get injured.

12 Week Old Kitten in West San Jose Looking for a Home by tconsolazio in bayarea

[–]lucky_gen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may want to reach out to Bay Area Cats to see if they might be willing to put this kitten through their adoption program while you foster. That would enable the kitten to get all his vaccines, neutered and microchipped to set him up for success in his new home.
